I've got this earmarked to watch and hope they keep it on iplayer - Chernobyl, The Virtues and What We Do in the Shadows all excellent too so I haven't had a chance to catch up (feels bad watching telly before it gets dark).

Biggest revelation for me tonight (distracted by the background) was that even in 2026 Beverley Callard will still be appearing in Rocky Horror Show at the Opera House

There are loads of holes in this and not all the characters ring true but BLOODY HELL the pace, the acting and the plotting. I wouldn't make a claim that it's the most sophisticated TV this year but for me it's absolutely compelling.

Watched the second one at the weekend, will stick with it. Better than the first, I thought. Only thing I wasn't sure of - a financial expert would read the markets and know the signs, I think, and also know how to move money better than he did. Oh, and I too want one of those wands. Badly. Also With the phone implant... Why is she putting her thumb to her ear if the speaker is in the palm of the other hand?

Oh yeah, @remark . Being honest I was also wondering where the SIM card was inserted but that's probably just me. If it was on channel5 they'd be showing you where, haha.

Third episode... I guess having invested 3 hours I'll watch the rest, but well... It's become a little pedestrian and Whovian for my tastes now. Pedestrian isn’t the word I would use as I think it’s the opposite, with so much plot that character is taking a back seat. I appreciate it’s trying to mimic the populism that it is afraid of but it’s currently at the expense of depth. That may change, of course.

I feel the story has dropped off a bit, which perhaps isn't surprising given the high-drama ending of ep1. But I'm still enjoying it and mainly savouring the performances. Kinnear played a blinder in ep3.

Well, I don’t think Episode 4 could be described as pedestrian.

Blimey, that was a shocker! {MAJOR Spoiler - click to view} Even Russell Tovey's mum was shocked, she told RTD off on Instagram!

{Spoiler - click to view}Slightly gutted because I didn’t watch it “live” and a friend tweeted their reaction which was enough for me to know what was coming, even though there technically weren’t spoilers in their tweet. That said, it still left me speechless.
I went to bed crying, thinking about the fact that there are hundreds of people risking and losing their lives every day just trying to make their lives better, just trying to find safety, just trying to live.

I was coming here to say
{Spoiler - click to view} Too much Tovey, that storyline was really beginning to irritate me. All the attention seemed to be there at the expense of others especially the two sisters.
But now I've watched the whole thing I guess I should feel guilty.
It's certainly a fascinating and gripping watch but am starting to wonder if it's a bit over ambitious and trying to cover just too much in 6 episodes. Are there plans for more does anyone know?

Think it's just a limited series and I think that what you complained about was necessary as that'll be the catalyst for the rest of the cast's actions moving forward. Also reading RTD's interview about the episode it sounds like he sisters will be featured more prominently in the next couple episodes.

No there aren’t, RTD has said it has a definite end.

TV rarely makes me emotional but ep4 has left me feeling quite shellshocked.

TV rarely makes me emotional but ep4 has left me feeling quite shellshocked. This is the perfect way to describe my reaction. I'm normally an easy crier and it seems like that's been a lot of people's reactions to the episode but I was so devastated by the ending that I couldn't react at all. I just sat there in shock. Such brilliant TV.

Amazing episode. Here's an interesting excerpt from "The Writer's Tale" from 2009 (RTD's book about writing Doctor Who) where he talks about the idea he's had for 20 years (so for 30 years now!) which has now come to fruition in this ...
Can totally see how this "ordinary people like you and me, not just watching it but part of it" leads to the ending of this weeks episode.

I went to bed crying, thinking about the fact that there are hundreds of people risking and losing their lives every day just trying to make their lives better, just trying to find safety, just trying to live. And enraged, thinking about how so many demonise people in that horrifying kind of situation, to the extent I've even seen people say things like "Good, another X gone"
