Cut off date is 20th Feb, and so I don't believe Prince of Egypt and Pretty Woman won't be eligible, as they will still be in previews (same as Waitress last year).
I think we can count Waitress, Dear Evan Hansen and & Juliet as three of the nominees, with the final nomination spot to play for.

I'd quite like Adrian Mole to get nominated somewhere.

Just wondering what else is available: Big Falsettos Adrian Mole Cannot think of anything else? Revival: Fiddler on the Roof Joseph Evita White Christmas Cannot think of anything else? Seems strange not having a Sondheim musical in the mix?

Do we have front runners for acting categories in plays?

Maggie Smith for sure but also Andrew Scott, Juliette Stevenson if she's eligible, probably Wendell Pierce, Sharon D Clarke for supporting most likely?

Does Les Mis count as a revival this year? It's been re-reviewed, has a new production team etc. They're billing it as a 'New Production' so surely that places it as a revival? Interesting if so, as that means that the cast and production team will be eligible for awards too...

Do we have a date yet for nominations? Any early predictions? Is there a list of updated, official eligible productions...? (Maybe I missed it)

I feel like I heard it was the 3rd March a few weeks ago, but I could be making that up...
It's normally a couple of days after the Oscars, but they're so early this year that it's not possible.

If Waitress was nominated I'd assume it would be original cast members nominated? I.e. Katherine McPhee, Marisha Wallace, Laura Baldwin. They've had quite a lot of cast changes since it opened and right now the only original cast member remaining is Marisha but she leaves at the end of March.

They've had quite a lot of cast changes since it opened and right now the only original cast member remaining is Marisha but she leaves at the end of March. Waitress is quite unusual because it’s been running a year (just missed last year’s Olivier cut off) and so like you say has had a lot of replacements. I don’t know what the eligibility situation is but I thought any performer would be eligible? I feel like Sara could even sneak in a get nominated for lead actress because she’s in the show right now when people will be making their votes and maybe going to see the show again for the first time. Not working in Kat’s favour as the OG is she left the show mid June, and Lucie’s not in the show right now either. I’m always wrong with my predictions. I haven’t seen enough plays to judge this year (although I loved Andrew Scott in PL) but for musicals I’m gonna go with: New musical: - & Juliet - Waitress - DEH - Adrian Mole Revival: - Mary Poppins - Fiddler on the Roof - Joseph - Evita Lead Actress: - Miriam-Teak Lee - Kat McPhee or Sara Bareilles (I’d personally like it to be Kat, not just cos she’s the OG. Not counting Lucie out either. Also think none of the waitress actresses could get a nom if they take votes away from each other, which is likely) - Zizi Strallen - Sheridan Smith (I didn’t think she was great in Joseph, but she’s theatre royalty so can see her getting a nom based on that alone) I forgot about Anne Marie Duff also! I’d honestly be pretty annoyed if she got nominated on account of the not really being able to sing thing which I think is pretty fundamental in a musical, lol. And also Sweet Charity wasn’t a great production. But again she’s acting royalty so I could absolutely see her getting a nom over any of the above. The Oliviers love to award beloved thesps and theatre darlings! Best Actor - Sam Tutty - Charlie Stemp - Andy Nyman - Oliver Tompsett Featured Actress: - Cassidy Janson - Marisha Wallace - Judy Kuhn - Lauren Ward Featured Actor: - David Hunter or Gavin Creel (unless they’d be considered for the lead category?) - Jack Loxton ^ not even sure who else to pick for this category!

Well the nominees are out, what does everyone think? I'm surprised at all the love for A Very Expensive Poison. I personally didn't see it but I thought reactions were quite lukewarm. I'm very happy that Blues in the Night got nominated for something though as I didn't think it would be eligible for anything since it wasn't on the West End so I hope it wins its category. I think & Juliet is probably the front runner which I never would have expected before it started. Personally I'm not interested and I think it's a shame to award juke box musicals over wholly original ones as to me part of the genre is the specificity of the score but I know a lot of people love it and honestly Amelie, Waitress and DEH aren't close to my favourite musicals (my favourite musicals were both at the Southwark Playhouse - Preludes and Islander - which I assume is either not an eligible theatre for the Olivier Awards or too small to get enough eyes for a nomination) so it's not a big upset for me if it wins. I would've liked Bridges of Madison County to get a nomination but again maybe The Menier isn't eligible? Either way I think they mostly got it right.

I think Adrian Mole could have got at least one nomination somewhere. Not great that a new British musical with an entirely British and young creative team and cast from a regional theatre makes it to the west end and gets totally snubbed, imo.

Changing Best Original Score to Best original score OR new orchestrations seems a big misstep in my opinion. To me they are 2 very different things. They should be seperate categories.

You are correct that Southwark and Menier are not eligible. Fiddler which was a Menier show has been nominated as it transferred to the west end I'm surprised Upstart Crow has been nominated. Didn't it only open last week?

Also, I'm surprised to see no love for Betrayal, Rebecca McKinnis, and of course Maggie Smith, but I guess the Bridge was not eligible, otherwise there is no explanation whatsoever. I'm also a bit surprised by Lucy Anderson and Josie Walker, not that they weren't good, but nothing in their roles or performances really stood out for recognition imho. I was also expecting some more love for the cast of Uncle Vanya and personally I'm sorry not to see Ethan Kai among the nominees, he was the heart and soul of the last revival of Equus.

Nice for Jerome Robbins to get a nomination. I suspect he won't be able to make it in person to the Royal Albert Hall, or even record a VT!

I don't understand all the love for David Bedella. Don't get me wrong, i think he's super talented, but to win for a nothing role in In The Heights and then to be nominated for & Juliet baffles me.

The category wasn’t ‘Best Original Score’ before though, it was ‘Outstanding Achievement in Music’ which was so vague. At least they have gone some way to giving a bit of definition to the category, even though I agree, they haven’t quite got it right yet.

Thought Rebecca McKinnis would've got a nod, but Lauren Ward is wholly deserving. Jack Loxton is good, but do think there is stronger performances out there this year.
Shame Waitress only got two nominations, but suppose it won't bother them too much as they are closing in June.
Glad &Juliet got some nominations. I do think they'll be in with a decent chance. Hope it helps business out for them! So deserving IMO!
Also got my body crossed for Wendell Pierce and Sharon D Clarke. Still not over Death of a Salesman after seeing it at the young vic last year!

Why is Adrian Scarborough a supporting role? Who was the main role if it wasn’t him? Puzzled.

One oddity is that Ian Rickson is nominated as best director for Uncle Vanya rather than Rosmersholm. Is there anyone who agrees with that ?

Really glad to see & Juliet get some attention here, it faced a bit of an uphill battle when it was first announced so is great to see it get some recognition which will hopefully translate into ticket sales. It also pleases me to see Cassidy nominated as well.
I’m surprised by the nod for Jac in Joseph, to me this is a bit of a thankless role and doesn’t really have much depth in order to be worthy of the nomination. Don’t get me wrong, it’s great to see newcomers up there but I think there were stronger performances which should have been recognised.
Honestly thought this year would be a fight between Waitress and DEH with a few nods for & Juliet. I guess the impending closing of Waitress and it’s early opening meant it wasn’t really to be.

My, a lot of the musical actor/actress categories filled with & Juliet and Dear Evan Hansen. Some appearing twice. Does that say a lot about last year's musical offerings last year in theatreland that not even the cast of Waitress gets a look in?
Not that I can't complain too much because I only saw & Juliet, Mary Poppins and Fiddler on the Roof and I'd say the cast of & Juliet stood out the most.
As for plays, I'm hard pressed between Cyrono and Rosmersholm for revival. Want James McAcvoy and Hayley Atwell to win the leads and Arinze Kene for the supporting actor
I want Ian Rickson to win the director award, but for Rosmersholm not Uncle Vanya. Rae Smith should win set design for both Rosmersholm and Uncle Vanya
