Too Soon? Shaping up to be quite a busy year already, with I'm sure a lot more to be announced.
New Musical:
& Juliet Big Dear Evan Hansen On Your Feet The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole Aged 13 ¾ Waitress
Musical Revival
Evita (Regent's Park) Fiddler on the Roof Joseph & the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat Man of La Mancha Mary Poppins Sweet Charity White Christmas
Plays Too many to list all but here are some bluesky predictions for potential nominees. New: Downstate, Fairview (YV), Bitter Wheat Revival: All My Sons, Death of a Salesman, Betrayal.

Oooo it really is a year for the Musical Revivals isn't it! I know half of them haven't opened yet, but that Best Musical catagory makes me really sad for some reason. Dear Evan Hansen will obviously win.

I love a good early prediction thread, if only to look back and see how wrong we were 😆 From that list I can see the following being nominated, with no idea for the 4th:
New Musical:
- Dear Evan Hansen - will win - Waitress - & Juliet
Revival:
- Mary Poppins - will win - Fiddler on the Roof - Joseph

Yeah maybe. But I think never discount the enthusiasm for Mary Poppins in this country!

Would Charlie Stemp slot into Best Actor or Best Supporting Actor in a Musical for Poppins?

Would Charlie Stemp slot into Best Actor or Best Supporting Actor in a Musical for Poppins? He is Actor as that is where that role has been in prior years. It'll be a shame that Charlie loses yet another Olivier because the actor who plays Evan is a lock pretty much on role alone. Charlie should of won for Sixpence, it's not even an arguement, much as I loved Andy Karl!

I wouldn’t second guess the Olivier Awards, Dear Evan Hansen appeals to the young primary, the Olivier voting committee certainly isn’t this.

I’ll bet Sheridan is a lock for Joseph as well.

I actually think Groundhog was the obvious winner that year and the deserved winner considering the hype, the reviews etc. I agree though we need to see what the situation is with & Juliet but it doesn't seem like a show that is aimed at the older generation any more than Evan Hansen is on face value alone.

Maybe a stupid question but is Mary Poppins actually a “revival” if it’s just going to be the same production as last time, or a cut back version even! I assumed that a revival nominee has to be a “new” production? Wouldn’t this be like Chicago at the Phoenix being nominated for revival?

Poppins would be considered a revival because it is not the exact same production that played in London, it is the touring production and also they are putting changes into the show such as more for Petula to do so it would naturally be considered a revival for those reasons. I still think it's bullsh*t Dreamgirls was considered a New Musical but you know, you win some, you lose some. 😂😂

Categories can be weird sometimes. Half a Sixpence for example was nominated as New Musical at the WOS Awards, and as Revival at Broadwayworld UK. That was a tricky one to catalogue.

Half a Sixpence was a true Revival as they literally revived the whole show but still kept the basis. Dreamgirls has been around for literally decades. I get that it hasn't been on the West End before, but it's still some bullsh*t that ended up in the Best NEW Musical catagory. f***ery.

I had no idea that Adrian Mole was a (relatively) new musical. I thought it was a revival of the one from the 80s.
