I’d welcome it over the film…couldn’t get on with it at all. I watched it the other day as I was in Poland so was able to get it on Netflix. I really didn’t enjoy it.

They sapped all of the warmth out of it in favour of being quirky and a bit ‘arch’. I loved LL as Miss Honey though. It felt like she was fighting against the rest of the film.

She was a bit bland up until her solo which makes you realise she’s being sidelined for that bizarre escapologist plot. Nobody quite reached their full potential.

Just wanted to ask whether you can film the curtain call at Matilda? I don’t think you can, and I don’t want to do anything I’m not allowed to do when I go tomorrow! Thank you

Apparently the actor playing Miss Honey (Lauren Byrne presumably?) and both of her understudies were unable to perform at yesterdays matinee due to “sore throats”. Somebody was brought in from a previous cast who “smashed it”. Shamelessly nicking this info off Facebook, is it true? Anyone know more details?

Something similar happened a few years ago when a cast member was sick at Mamma Mia and one of the ensemble at 42nd Street next door stepped in at the last minute. It made the press and TV.

Yes, Carly Thoms went on as Miss Honey, she left the show in September last year.

Just to back up other posts the netflix film really is as soulless as they have said. Massive disappointment as the theatre version is an avalanche of creativity from the moment you enter the theatre and see the hand drawn school board notices, the school desks merchandise counters and the book covered stage surround. That imagination continued with a stylish staging and certainly when I saw it some amazing strong performances from the actors of all ages. The film does not come close to that spark of creativity and the visual wonder in the theatre. One to miss.

Hi! Does Matilda ever have discounts or deals for tickets? I’ve been trying to get to it for years but have never really seen any sort of deals.

Not that I have seen but it is always on the ‘Get into London’ theatre thing.

They have the young people "TikTok Tickets" for a tenner, and some concessions at the box office for midweek performances. Plus the lottery, of course. Hope this helps: uk.matildathemusical.com/tickets/tickets/

Since when was the overture from Broadway added? Also noticed some extra dialogue and music sections yesterday when I saw the show for the first time in over a year.
Nice to see they’re still making tweaks to the show!

Is there any chance of another UK and Ireland tour anytime soon?

Since when was the overture from Broadway added? I’ve got to say I’m not a fan of the Overture from the Broadway cast recording. Sure, it reflects the tone of the darker moments in the show, but the vast majority is much more upbeat I’d say - whereas the full Entr'acte on the Stratford/London cast recording does this brilliantly. I prefer the original way it opens with the school bell and orchestra warming up into Miracle.

Yes - the school orchestra idea was wonderful. Glad it's still there! The Entr'acte is great fun; the act two opening has seen so many changes over the years! I enjoyed Mr Wormwood exploding his hat off but the implied moment at the end of the show where Matilda offers a final piece of magic to her father by unfastening the hat is very touching.
Just wondered when the overture was added... and... why?!

Still such a great show. These kids are insanely talented. The audience however… the worst I have ever experienced. And I’ve sat in Lion King and Frozen. Is it always like this? Or did I just get unlucky? Kids, parents, adults kept walking through the aisles. Singing along. Shopping bags going up and down.

I went to see this in August and thought exactly the same, it had been a few years since I'd last seen it and don't remember it being as bad as it was.

Oh my God, I just saw the show and you are so right about this. I know it was half-term and there were so many kids, but why are the PARENTS letting them sing along and put their feet up on the rails and basically just be annoying? Also, is it just me, or is the sound not perfect in the Cambridge Theatre? Still enjoyed the performance though, it was just the theatre-going experience that was not the best
