Love it kathryn. I’m a big fan of not eating things the way they are meant to be eaten.

Love it kathryn. I’m a big fan of not eating things the way they are meant to be eaten. The picture on the box is only a suggestion, after all! 😉 I will eat them with a splash of milk at home - though you don’t want too much or they just become mush - it’s mainly the convenience of being able to breakfast on the train, since I have an hour on it. Having a sugary cereal bar or pastry on the train for breakfast was doing me no good at all!

Is there anything people HAVE to have in the morning, without fail? For me, and it seems many, it's a cup or three of coffee. Oh, and my meds, but I don't consider that a balanced meal. 😂😂 Absolutely. Meds first, then coffee, then food. Then more coffee. Breakfast this morning will be porridge with Goja berries and seeds, once I get into work.

Love it kathryn . I’m a big fan of not eating things the way they are meant to be eaten. it’s mainly the convenience of being able to breakfast on the train The convenience?! A great illustration of each to our own - having breakfast on the train to work is, to me, a horrible notion. But if it's convenient for you, fair enough. *shudders* (On top of that, my work train journey is usually about 25 minutes maximum, I do see how an hour gives you the time to breakfast if you're of a mind to do that). Earlier danieljohnson14 asked if there's anything we must have each morning. For me there's no one specific thing but generally I have to have something. I don't feel right if I leave the house without having had anything at all. Other than that, the closest 'must-have' would probably be tea but even then it's not always the case. Like this morning for example - fried eggs on toast, orange juice.

Expanding a little, anyone else done the USA thing of "Steak and Eggs" for breakfast? Memorable. I didn't realise that was a US thing. I've known it to be available in some greasy spoons for many years, but never tried it.

^Was told it was a USA thing, never seen it over here, I admit. Not breakfast-specific, but steak's one of those things that for me always promises more than it delivers. It's so often been taken to be this sort of big treat of a meal, but even when I've had what I recognise to be a very good quality one, I get about halfway through and start thinking, okay I've got this now. Then the rest of the meal just feels like chewing and I try to eke out the fries, watercress and bearnaise as much as possible. There's the odd exception - at Barbecoa St Paul's I had some pit-smoked steak that I really enjoyed, while my friends shared a chateaubriand that I tried a bit of and it made me swoon. But I don't think that'd be on the breakfast menu of a greasy spoon.

Well, it’s more convenient to eat slowly during that dead hour on the train than it is to either get up out of bed 20 minutes earlier or bolt down some food in a couple of minutes before running out the door!

Sounds like your saying you need more than 25 mins for breakfast..? I think I'm done with breakfast in about 5 mins. Quite often (in the summer with chilled overnight oats prepped) I'll eat on the short tram ride in.

But sometimes the train can be about 20 mins depending which one I catch and even if I was okay with eating a meal on the train I wouldn't like the prospect of having just about enough time to do it. Plus, I'm not always guaranteed a seat. All of the above, while standing?! Eeeeyeaaggghh. A lot of this is down to my not being able to enjoy any kind of food/drink consumption unless I am sat at a table at home or in a cafe, restaurant etc. I really dislike e.g. picnics or any kind of eating/drinking that involves perching uncomfortably on a bit of grass somewhere in direct sunlight. I'm often not even happy having a meal sitting at an outside table of a bar/restaurant, unless it's completely in the shade and free of insect life and other fauna. Sitting on a crowded morning rush-hour train and eating breakfast... it's just a few steps along from the naked-in-public bad dream.

Blimey no the second option is out of the question, completely. I'm happy to go for the get-up-earlier approach but totally get that I may well be in a minority on that!

Skinny latte, followed by a broccoli, pecorino and ebly omelette. It's an education, this thread. Thanks to this and having to look it up, I now know what ebly is. In an omelette, eh? My word.

Don't get how people can eat stood up. Boggles my mind how at conference buffets people can plate up and wander round chatting, eating.

Well this morning it was tea with jam and bread. Even though I cannot sing to save my life.
Usually something like porridge with maple syrup and sliced bananas. I know how to live!

Four slices of hot toast with butter-like spread, a glass of orange juice, a multi-vitamin tablet, a vitamin D tablet, a mega-dose vitamin C tablet, and if I don't drink three cups of coffee before 10am I'm like a BurlyBeaR with a sore head!

Sitting on a crowded morning rush-hour train and eating breakfast... it's just a few steps along from the naked-in-public bad dream. One of the few advantages of being the end of the line - I always get a seat, and usually an otherwise empty or sparsely populated carriage for the first 15 minutes of the journey, so it doesn't feel like eating in the middle of a crowd.

Hot milky poorridge with syrup and a mug of coffee, very impressed with Parsley’s three course breakfast,
Being an early riser, have always preferred to ease myself into the day, catch up on the news, a bit of reading or guitar playing (unplugged), followed by some exercise, breakfast, shower then a walk to work.
Usually been awake for 3 hours by the time I start work.

Skyr, a green apple, honey nut shredded wheat. Separately, not together. And coffee, which I drink so that others may live.
