I enjoyed the tropical downpour earlier. It was excellent for removing bird poo from my balcony.
Not coping well with the heat otherwise. Lots of lying in front of my fan and complaining.

I envy anyone getting rain. We've not had a drop for weeks. Nothing yesterday or today depite thunderstorm warnings.

Impressed with the air conditioning at the Coliseum last night, there was a nice breeze across the stalls every few minutes so it wasn't unbearably hot. Plus they had big glass dispensers of tap water at one end of the bar for people to help themselves too. Just a pity the show was dire, but at least we weren't sweltering and thirsty too!

Why does the media still always present possible hot weather as a good thing? I'm sure I'm not the only person who has been very relieved by a not too hot July & whose heart sinks at the prospect of hotter weather in the next couple of weeks. www.bbc.co.uk/weather/features/66508760 |

I think people have forgotten that the UK being where it is, gets varied weather patterns throughout the year. The summers are no continuously anything, but characterised by hot days, weeks and then rainy, chilly ones and the winters can be very cold or just cold or sometimes bright and almost not cold. It’s not like so much of the rest of the world where temps stay the same for each season. I honestly think people don’t understand that. ( she ducks behind the sofa )

Yep, I'm always keener on early September weddings than June ones (despite what the girls in SBFSB say). They tend to have nicer weather in my experience.

However, the weather during the summer holidays has been so mixed, and now we have a week (or two) of sun (albeit hot) as soon as we return to school. |

A couple of months ago, I bought one of those geeky-looking neck fans anticipating a hot summer but was luckily away from the UK during the last heat wave. I've been using it the last couple of days and I have to say, it works great! I was a little concerned it would give me a stiff neck, but so far it hasn't. I'll have the chance to check next week if it's loud for others (and myself) when sitting in the theater, but if not, it will be a god-send!

I bought one of those mini hand fans (Funme) and it's very effective, though not quiet. Until this week, there has only been one day when I needed to use it (social event as a thunderstorm was about to break) and I forgot to bring it. Btw, do you have Sahara dust on everything today? We do here in the NW, and odd opal skies, very still, birdsong sounding really loud this evening.

What I hate is that the heatwave comes along just as you’re adjusted to it being 20 degrees - it’s not the absolute heat level that is the problem (I was out and about in 30-odd degree heat on Greece!) it’s the fact that it has jumped 8 degrees in a matter of days!
That and the fact that my first floor flat just seems to *collect* the heat. It builds up over a few days.

We've had such an appalling summer in the NW - rain, cold, heating on, wettest July on record, everything mildewy and mouldy - I'm actually enjoying this (mostly): the hazy light is very 70s nostalgic and I'm getting on with some very belated Spring cleaning.

My mother & I seem to experience temperatures completely differently. Conversation just now:
My mother (calling up from downstairs): How are you getting on?
Me: It's not exactly cool up here.
My mother: I'm about to put a fleece on.
Me (melting in shorts & t-shirt): Aaaaaarrrrrgggghhhh!!!!
