The weather forecast for the next week makes me want to curl up & die. 30 degrees plus pretty much non-stop. Yep. I think there's going to be a lot of time spent working in my living room with the curtains closed and a fan aimed directly at me. Some people love this kind of weather; I am not one of them. I lived in Toronto for several years, and it's the winters I miss, not the heat and humidity in summer.

I lived in Toronto for several years, and it's the winters I miss, not the heat and humidity in summer. I've got my fan out of the garage, though I'm having some assembly issues... Curtain closing has been happening on sunny days since April. I'm not sure if I'd like somewhere like Toronto in the winter but I know I wouldn't in the summer. I already live in one of the most temperate countries in the world & it's still not temperate enough for me. If anyone know somewhere with a maximum summer temperature of 15 degrees...

A hot sunny day, and now the clouds have rolled in to act as a nice cosy blanket trapping the heat overnight. If anyone know somewhere with a maximum summer temperature of 15 degrees... Mars.

If anyone know somewhere with a maximum summer temperature of 15 degrees... Luleå looks nice. Slightly warmer than that, but not too warm (this week, 20C-ish). Unfortunately my freedom of movement is being flushed down the toilet for no good reason other than to pander to racists, so moving there isn't on the cards. But I can dream.

25 degrees C maximum here for the next week. Cooler weather was one of the reasons I moved back up north.

Iceland is about that usually. It also has the benefit of being stunningly beautiful and (in Reykjavik at least) with an excellent arts scene. www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/forecast/ge2kughet#?date=2020-08-07Tromsø in Northern Norway also looking good as an option. Has been called 'The Paris of the North'.

Having only moved FROM the north at the end of last year, it's a little soon for me to consider going back.
On the other hand, right now Edinburgh - 23C today, high teens to 20C for the next two weeks - looks very appealing.

I was under the impression that free movement to the EU is unchanged until the end of the transition period, but why let facts get in the way of point scoring...or democracy.
Even after that, there is always Scotland, though some of the locals are very unwelcoming to anyone with an English accent. It's almost as if they're xenophobic.
And there's always the Republic of Ireland, especially on the west coast, with all those weather systems rolling in from the Atlantic.

I was under the impression that free movement to the EU is unchanged until the end of the transition period, but why let facts get in the way of point scoring.. Indeed, and since I'm not in a position to move until the middle of next year, my point stands. ...is not a once-in-a-lifetime event, and freedom of movement was not mentioned on the referendum ballot. This government has chosen, for no good reason, to strip established rights from every single citizen, and those of us who didn't allow ourselves to be taken in by a stack of populist half-truths and dog-whistle racism are entitled to be very, very angry about it, and to continue to express our anger.

8pm & it's still boiling outside & muggy as hell. Not expecting to get much if any sleep tonight.
I should have specified that said below-15-degree place would also need to have bookshops & theatres! Unless the coronavirus pandemic contines for several decades, in which case Mars might gradually start to look like a good choice!
Luleå looks nice. Slightly warmer than that, but not too warm (this week, 20C-ish). I used to think Scandanavia would be good until we visited Norway a few years ago & got lots of details about the 40 degree heatwave they'd suffered the previous sumer!
Please could the Brexit arguments try to stay on the Brexit thread (which I never read) & not spill over onto this thread.

I'm so happy I'm not in London but Devon at the moment. Nice and cool outside at the moment, it was muggy early this afternoon which made it feel hot but it was only meant to be 23 today.

Ceredigion. Sun broke through twice yesterday, otherwise overcast and warm. Today started sunny but overcast and cool now. 🤨

Have been to London today (am at Euston now) - it was pleasant until the clouds dispersed, at which point it has become rather unpleasant. On top of that, I am now wearing a mask for the next 3 hours which is not going to help my mood.

Lovely here in Bristol, although I am in a shady garden. Went for a walk earlier to admire the attractive men running with their tops off, oh I mean the lovely river and countryside 🙂

I had lunch in a pub this afternoon. The chef was wearing a mask. In a kitchen. In this heat. I don't think I could manage that. When I was driving home I was holding the steering wheel like one of those desert lizards that stands on alternate feet.

What were you doing in a pub kitchen, @thematthew? You hadn't 'forgotten' your wallet again, had you? 🙂

Just before lockdown we moved into an office with aircon from one that regularly reached 34 degrees in the afternoons in summer. I'm delighted to be able to come into the office a few times a week anyway but even more so today after sweating in my living room on Monday and Tuesday.

I used to work in a top-floor office directly under the roof. Even with air conditioning it wasn't great, and especially not when mixed with the sort of idiots who insist on having the windows open even when the AC is on.
Now I'm sitting here with the curtains drawn on the south of the house and the windows open on the north. My thermometer is one I used to use for developing photographs. It only goes up to 30°C and it's almost maxed out.
Some nice storms last night, though.

My 'office' thermometer is currently reading 29.3C. It got u to 31.4C yesterday afternoon. I am sitting directly in front of a fan but it doesn't help much.
Might have to move to the other side of the house for this afternoon.

There is, as far as I can tell, one single Dyson fan to be purchased in the whole of London (and it’s not the model I want.)

There is, as far as I can tell, one single Dyson fan to be purchased in the whole of London (and it’s not the model I want.) Friends said I was mad paying a huge amount for my Dyson 2 years ago (its the one that purifies the air too) but its been a godsend the last 2 summers in the bedroom
