Alice's Defying Gravity and No Good Deed for anyone interested. A bit too shouty but better than a lot of previous London Elphabas!

I agree, that note was not great but I do like that she attempted it. West End Glindas are so boring in my opinion. Just out of interest, why do you find them so boring? Because they usually sing the score as it was written? Or another reason? I don't find the fact that they sing the score as it is written. If they want to throw in a few riffs or high notes it is more than welcome. It's just that in London Glinda is a snobby b***h. In America she is a preppy airhead. I think the humour works better the American way. I think if they had Elphaba be British and Glinda be American it would work so much better.

My first experience with the character was in London so I find the American version really hard to get into.

That's more than likely what it comes down to for everyone. I was introduced to the American version first so I do prefer that more, however I have no problems with the rest of the cast having English accents.

I saw it in the UK first and really prefer the American Glinda.

I saw it in the UK first and really prefer the American Glinda. Likewise. Well actually I've never seen an American Glinda, but from bootlegs, opinions of friends etc, it's clear that the American interpretation works much better.

Three so far: Kara Lindsay, Jenni Barber and Carrie St Louis. Coincidentally, they are also my top 3 Glindas

W/c 19th December is a 9 show week. Is it one of the shows on the Thursday that Elphaba and Glinda take off? I want to come to the wednesday matinee and see Tucker one last time before her final show but want to make sure its not one of her 'booked off' shows. Any shed any light?

Usually with the 9 show week, Rachel would do one of the midweek matinees and Alice the other. As to which way around, it's anyone's guess unless they post their dates on the website. May be worth looking out for who does which one during the October half term week.

At the show this afternoon - interval thoughts are that Rachel sounds like she's having a rough time this afternoon. A strong Defying Gravity as always (no riffs - just the way I like it) but I've found with Rach when she's sick it's usually her lower register that goes first and that seems to be the case today.
Susie is still a joy and settling into the company really well - every time she is on stage there is an electric presence and she is the best recieved by the audience. I think this has something to do with her steady delivery. The rest of the cast seem to deliver far too quickly but she has a great pace.
One question- what has happened to Anita? LOVED her in her first week but today she looks bored, and has thrown all her lines away. Sad face.

Martin Ball is still playing the Wizard

I'm finally back in London next week for the Friday & both Saturday shows! Does it seem like Martin Ball will still be on as the Wizard by then, considering the type of operation Mark has had? I am really hoping to see Alice Fearn while I am there though. The reviews of Rachel in her London return from people I know and audios I have heard haven't been the best to be honest!

The reviews of Rachel in her London return from people I know and audios I have heard haven't been the best to be honest! I find that very strange. When I saw her in September she was incredibly brilliant. I have heard some of the audios and I have to admit that the audios were better during her first run in London. But when I saw her live she was amazing. Her performance was just perfect, vocally as well as acting-wise.

"Rachel Tucker" and "not the best" are two things that are not compatible in the same sentence.

Does the show itself get discussed anywhere, or is this "who's playing who" thread the only forum for it?

It gets discussed in my front room most evenings.

Does the show itself get discussed anywhere, or is this "who's playing who" thread the only forum for it? The show itself gets discussed. However, most people on this board have already seen it more than once so there isn't much left to discuss other than the performances by particular casts

If you want to discuss just tell us what you want to discuss and we'll discuss Personally, I think the midwife needs a bigger part. It's hard to wade in when every single post is about how many times posters have seen it and who their favourite Elphabas/Glindas/Boqs/Chisterys/etc are. In fact, it doesn't make me want to post here at all.

I'm not too sure if I am a fan of Alice's voice in the role. I don't know what it is and I will of course reserve full judgement until I see her personally in the role as audio can be misleading.

I'm sure most people would love to talk about other aspects of the show. But it's easy to critisize the aspects that are discussed here when you yourself make no effort whatsoever to discuss other aspects. I don't mean it in a negative way. I'm just saying be the chance you want to see.
