Tonight I got to fulfill a nearly 10 year old ambition & got to go backstage at Wicked, thanks to Martin. My 10 years younger Wicked fangirl self would have killed for this! It was great to see the costumes up close & to see the Apollo Vic from the stage. How did you arrange that? I want to backstage too! If I could go backstage anywhere it would probably be for this. To kneel at the site of the cherry picker...

Full cast on this evening apart from Martin Ball as the Wizard & therefore Russell Walker as Dillamond. Oh and I think there was a cover midwife on, for whoever it is on here who likes cover midwives!LMAO

Martin had some friends in to watch him who he was taking backstage & he asked me if I wanted to join them. Naturally I said yes! I've been a fan of his since he was in the original cast of Wicked & have seen him multiple times in the other West End shows he's been in in the intervening 9 years: Les Mis, Top Hat & Phantom (also got to go backstage there - the Victorian stage machinery is very interesting). So a combination of long term fandom, lucky timing & him being a very nice person. As I said, it took me nearly 10 years, having first seen Wicked 16th December 06.

He'd already asked me in advance, when I messaged him to say I was coming to see him on for the Wizard that show.

I'm going to message fifth cover midwife and ask if a similar tour would be possible when I visit!

There is a new audio of Rachel from yesterdays matinee on YouTube. Now, call me boring, but she sings Defying Gravity with minimal riffs and my god it sounds fantastic. Elphaba's riff so much these days that when they go back to basics it just sounds so refreshing. I know riffs are loved by fans of Wicked but really, the score just doesn't need them, it's so powerful as it is.

Of course this person recorded Rachel's first show back after Alice being in for 3 shows...and not any of the 3 previous. I wanna hear Alice!!!

This is now on the website: "Please note that the role of The Wizard is currently being performed by Martin Ball."
Does this mean Mark Curry is out for a longer period of time? That's not something you post on your website if it's just for a few days. They're currently down to one Dillamond understudy and one Wizard understudy (who is currently playing Dillamond). If anything happens to one of them they could get in trouble. Although they're not hugely demanding roles, and they could even have one person play both roles.

Although they're not hugely demanding roles, and they could even have one person play both roles. This happened loads in the Stoller days. DillaWiz shows used to bring me with such joy, nobody rocked it quite like David Stoller. Think they did it permanently on the UK tour, too. Always thought it could be a really great way to show the two prominent male figures in Elphabas grown up life, both played by the same guy. But that may be too GCSE Drama of me!!

Suzie has ended NOMTW on the optional high note here in London! Didn't enjoy that - needs some vibrato otherwise it just sounds like a scream And a slightly flat one at that.

Yeah they did it permanently on the UK tour and the same guy (Steven Pinder) also currently doing it permanently on the International tour.

West End Glindas are so boring in my opinion. Just out of interest, why do you find them so boring? Because they usually sing the score as it was written? Or another reason?

Alice singing The Wizard and I at her fourth performance. I am totally blown over. Did not expect this AT ALL.

Because they usually sing the score as it was written? Or another reason? Broadway Glindas are way funnier and over-the-top than their UK counterparts.
