Rachel isn't what everyone makes her out to be, personally i don't like her Elphaba that much, i much prefer Alice & Emma She isn't what people make her out to be? Interesting. Is she really a three hoofed unicorn maskerading as a theatre performer? Who knew... Or maybe it could just be that people like different things in "their" Elphaba to others? They always have and they always will. Milk and two sugars for me...

Team Emma Hatton are on a misson to take over the board. Emma is Queen after all Rachel isn't for me, personally I don't think Rachel can act, sorry!🙈 Alice is so much better (in my opinion)

Yeah just a personal look at it I suppose, i was SO EXCITED to see Rachel as Elphaba but unfortunately she wasn't what I had expected and not in a good way, I just don't like her acting unfortunately, a part from a couple of scenes like the cat fight scene, and I love her riffs but nothing else unfortunately

I had seen a few Elphabas before I saw Rachel, and her acting blew me away. Unlike some other Elphabas she doesn't stand there making the same face the entire time when it's not her line.

However, to say that she can't act is a complete nonsense! Someone who can't act wouldn't have had her contract at Wicked renewed during her first West End run. Nor would she have been invited to play Elphaba on Broadway. During her stint in I'd Do Anything her acting wasn't, as far as I can recall, ever criticised by the judges. Others were, so if there had been an issue with Rachel's acting ability, it would have been mentioned. She also had a career prior to IDA, understudying in various touring productions, something which would have been a near impossibility for someone who couldn't act.

If I remember correctly her acting was on occasion criticised by the judges in I'd Do Anything. Maybe that's where this (in my opinion ridiculous) claim often comes from. If she ever had a problem with her acting she has more than made up for it by now. Her acting was genuinely the best acting I've ever seen in a musical.

Yeah let's also note that Rachel, unlike most/(all?) other Elphabas, has also done two straight plays over the last few years (Farragut North at the Southwark Playhouse and Communicating Doors at the Menier Chocolate Factory) so you bet she can act.

While I understand your point I don't think I'd Do Anything is any point of reference for acting ability. In those kind of shows they barely mention acting at all its just sing, sing, sing..... When the poster gets a little older I am sure they will learn to realise that just because you don't like someone, that does not mean they cannot act. Those two are separate things. Also, if you do not like them fine but when you then bombard them with tweets and continually ask for selfies it descends upon the realms of the ridiculous.

Exactly. If it was dedicated to Rachel or Willemijn I could understand, but Emma? Rachel isn't what everyone makes her out to be, personally i don't like her Elphaba that much, i much prefer Alice & Emma If Rachel can't act then goodness knows what it is you do when you do your videos. I think Rachel is the most fantastic elphaba and I can't wait to get back to the AV to see her again before she leaves.

I think she can act in different roles just not as Elphaba, sorry!

who same guy who did Sound of Music with Lucy and massive hit as well if we flip a coin. For me Personally there no doubt Emma can sing and act. But i preferred Emma as Standby Elphie, i think it went over her comfort Zone when she was promoted full time Elphie.

Nor would she have been invited to play Elphaba on Broadway. Kerry Ellis? Exactly. Another brilliant Elphaba. Only the great ones are invited to do it on Broadway.

Someone who can't act wouldn't have had her contract at Wicked renewed during her first West End run. Emma Hatton's contract was extended... Rachel's got extended twice. And Emma hadn't been playing it for a full year yet when her contract was extended. She had only been Elphaba for like 7 months. So that extention was nothing special. Rachel however did 3 contracts in her first run.

How much of the audition process is based on CV and previous experience versus the actual audition? I mean, anyone can belt out the end of Wizard and I (!!) but how much acting can you put across in an audition?
Not being cheeky I genuinely don't know much about the process...

You sound like that idiot journalist who said musicals are inferior to straight plays because anyone can belt out a song. Not anyone can belt out the end of the Wizard and I. And certainly not anyone can sing Defying Gravity or No Good Deed.

No I was being tongue in cheek about the belting - I would love to know how much belting the midwives need to do in audition though!
