It will be the touring set and not the original design- that has been binned and will never be used again.

The original set though impressive was too complex to tour, it's a testament to Bob Crowley for coming up with a set that was still impressive but tourable.

I saw the original production back in 2005 and it's still one of the most amazing shows I've seen; that set was incredible, I don't know what other set can come close - it was an entire house on stage. Everything is done so cheaply these days that I'm guessing it'll be a watered down tour-style production coming in for a limited run, right? Also I have to say no one has come close to Laura Michelle Kelly's original interpretation of the title role - she was not a caricature, she was so nuanced and she played the role to perfection. I feel with all subsequent Marys we had too many high pitched musical theatre-Glinda-style leading ladies (don't know how else to describe it) rather than Kelly's version which was actually quite moving especially near the end of the show. No other Mary has matched what Kelly brought out in the Anything Can Happen number. My personal thoughts of course! Christine Tucker, the 2nd cover on the tour, was absolutely phenomenal in the role - she covered a whole week of the Newcastle run when Zizi was on holiday and the 1st cover was off sick. She had just the right balance between stern and friendly, had a much softer edge to her voice than Zizi (who I found to be quite shrill at times), and her rapport with the kids and family was wonderful to watch. Her 'With every job when it's complete' had me in tears every night! The touring set was a huge surprise. The fold out 'dolls house' aspect worked really well, revolving to show the kitchen, and having the nursery flown in, and pieces like 'Jolly Holiday' were really slick. A stand-out was the set for 'Step in Time' which had so much detail in it, and still had Bert doing his 'over the rooftops' tap. I honestly didn't think the final flight would happen in touring venues, but the Disney guys had worked their magic in creating a flight system and landing platform which blended in so well with the theatre's own decor that someone coming in for the first time would think it was just part of the theatre. During the Newcastle run there wasn't a single no-fly performance, and it was such a pleasure to see the delight on the audience's faces as she made her way sky-wards :-)

Totally agree, I enjoyed Christine's performance more than Zizi's and I love Zizi! She was great.

I’d like to see Caroline Sheen again in the role- she deserves a lead in the west end again , even if it is this rather tired show. A jobs a job.

The tour was fantastic and I am sure it will be welcomed back to London. After all, what else is there for children to see if they've already seen the Lion King, Matilda and Aladdin?

Hell, if you're taking children to the theatre, skip the needless expense and variable quality of the West End and take them to the Unicorn. Once they're too old for the Unicorn, they're basically adults anyway (though that said, I'm in my 30s and still a big ol' Unicorn fan, so take "too old for the Unicorn" with as much salt as needed).

And if they've seen whatever the current is at the Unicorn (or it's for whatever reason not their thing) seek out what I would call 'proper children's theatre' of that ilk elsewhere in London (and beyond) Honestly I love me a West End Musical and I love that there's a family 'option' (or 6) but for proper 'switch kids onto theatre' there's specialists out there who will have them RAPT (and us 'grown ups') too. Anyway to keep this on topic, I do love me a Mary....

I saw the first tour and second and I actually agree with Mr Barnaby, the second tour wasn't the same standard but I think that was down to weaker cast more than anything. Also agree Caroline Sheen is an underrated Mary.

Mary Poppins will now be opening at its original home- the Prince Edward. What a waste of a big theatre. Ho hum.

Cameroon Mackintosh did say in the Hamilton programme, that he originally intended to put Mary Poppins in the Victoria Palace for the re-opening, until Hamilton came along, so it was always on the cards.
Saying that I wasn't aware that Aladdin sales have slowed to warrant closing, if it did go in the Prince Edward, I hope they use the original set, rather than the 'flimsy' touring one. I do like Poppins and has great stage craft in it.
Edit: Just looked at a seat plan for Aladdin on Saturday evening on 1st September, so still school holidays and the sales look horrific and further performances in September look even worse.
Could it open to coincide with Mary Poppins 2.

Oh i'm fully aware, but six months before a major new show is due to come in, I would imagine there would of been discussions for a few weeks prior to an announcement rather than signing up and then announcing it the next minute.

Aladdin is currently booking up to February 9. With the new film coming out in December it won’t perfectly coincide but I can see it shifting seats because of it.
