Do we think the West End production will finish in January at the end of the current booking period? Would save them having to build a new set for the tour. Neither Kinky Boots nor Beautiful could sustain in London whilst also touring so would seem logical. Probably depends on casting and the advance. I do think Jamie would see a decline if they toured it and kept in the West End

Baz's article says that Layton will stay with the London show til Jan when they will recast so looks like it will extend in the West End beyond January.

Find it odd they won’t have any news until September.

I went to see this yesterday afternoon, my first time seeing it at the theatre. I loved the cinema screening, and particularly wanted to see Faye, so made the trip down. I got a good stalls seat at great price - the box office were very helpful when I went about an hour beforehand and asked what they could offer me at a reasonable price.
I really enjoyed the show again, and nice to see some different cast. Faye surprised me having a northern accent! As with the live screening, the first half of act 1 is my favourite part, I really like Out of the Darkness. I think it's a great story about accepting people for who they are, even if they do things differently.
I'd hoped to see Faye afterwards, but there was a sign at the stage door saying she wouldn't be coming out. I thought this was extremely helpful as it saved me having to wait unnecessarily, meaning I could get an earlier train home, which for a 3 hour journey (followed by a busy day today) was much appreciated. Does anyone know if she normally stays in after matinees, or if I was just unlucky to miss her?

Aww... I watched that at work with the sound off, yet it still managed to make me well up! So sweet.

Attended last night thanks to a second chance ticket. Good central Stalls seat. The house was full, although there was a bit of a delay getting into the theatre caused by a family who had just purchased a large bag of snacks from Wasabi next door. They weren't happy that they couldn't take it into the theatre (I did see them back eating in the same shop afterwards, so I presume they were able to leave the food there).
Faye's final week and she was excellent again.
I saw Layton Williams' debut as Jamie and wasn't too keen on his portrayal then. He was better last night, much more relaxed than the role, although he does overplay every scene. Vocals were mixed. I wasn't convinced he was always singing live, particularly in some of the songs where the vocals were much more confident than others, but perhaps he just likes to open and close his mouth a lot at random times.
Bill Ward has taken over as Hugo. This doesn't come across as a natural role for him. He has a rather shouty style as Hugo, different to how I've seen the character be played before. He looked the part as Loco (to the extent there were people sat near me in the audience not realising it was the same person), but he wasn't able to hit the high notes.
A real treat to find Melissa Jacques on as Margaret. I've seen her play Ray before and have been hoping to catch her Margaret for some time. There was a sign up in the foyer announcing she was on. An excellent job and she nailed "He's My Boy". I don't know if she's scheduled all week, but if she is, it's a good time to get a ticket. She'd make an excellent Margaret for the tour.
Only other cover on was Rachel Price as Becca. Marvyn Charles was on as well, but didn't make the cast board.
The current cast isn't the strongest, but the show overall is in good shape. Only wish on my list now is to catch Adam Taylor on as Jamie, so if anyone spots any cover dates he has, do post them.

Interesting you say about recorded vocals, I had the same distinct impression last week. I’ve never noticed lips and vocals not matching up well before.
I loved Faye in it a lot. I preferred most of Layton’s vocals (to John’s) but there was a bit too much ‘squiggly singing’ for my liking.
Ray was great although I’m not sure I liked her as much as Mina Anwar.
I was worried that after Josie Walker, Rebecca McInnes would not match up but she was fantastic.
The end of Act One is still the weakest part of the show but they’re hardly going to change it now.
The only problem I had after seeing the show was that I was hugely disappointed with the movie Cast. I’m sure Jamie will be fine. Sharon Horgan I trust although I’ve never heard her sing properly. Sarah Lancashire is always far too much on screen for me - but I like her on stage. Ditto for Richard E. Grant but I’ve never seen him on stage. I’m disappointed they went for Shobna Gulati, because she’s my least favourite of the three Rays (I’ve seen) but she is very good on screen (I can see Mina working better as a best friend for Sarah too). Of course I’ll go and see it and I think that without two acts, the film will flow much better and not show up the flaw of Act One’s ending.
(If they’re aiming for Oscars, they’ll have to insert a new song, so please shove it where the end of Act One would be, so it can be inserted into the musical.)

Deerlands Avenue. That’s on a huge council estate called Parson’s Cross which gets a mention in the show (or did in the Crucible version).

When it was announced on the wireless, they said that dancing will be involved, so I may have to get a few pointers from david! I know one of the warm-up acts is Reverend and the Makers, a local beat combo.

Decisions, decisions. Given that it’s happening at Parsons Cross I’d suggest playing the outfit down. It’s not a theatrical type of place. That swishy cloak I never saw back is definitely out. Maybe a flak jacket and a pair of running shoes?

I know one of the warm-up acts is Reverend and the Makers, a local beat combo. Slightly off point BUT I have heard a “rumour” by several “in the know” people that the front man of Reverend and the Makers actually wrote the first Arctic Monkeys album!

If you want an autograph, anita, I'm happy to oblige. Just think how much it will be worth when I'm famous! Will you stop going on about that damned cape, BurlyBeaR, just because it's 'technically' yours. Do you not realise this is peak 'hen' season? They can't get enough of it, or me, especially now I've mastered the dance routine david taught me. 🙂

Please remember us all here on TheatreBoard when you are picking up all those awards next year and you are mixing with the Hollywood (or Hollyoaks) elite!
