I'm boycotting the soggy bottoms.

In the immortal words of my mother, whenever I presented her with, or she bought, anything new "it won't be as good as the old one".

No thanks, that picture alone is enough to put me off! I'm sticking to the plentiful good cookery shows on the BBC...

Publicly, I am boycotting the new version, but of course I'll have a look!!! The three magic ingredients have gone though, Mary with Paul was good symmetry and of course Mel and Sue were an excellent combination. It will be interesting to see if Noel and Sandi can find that sense of mischief. Will Prue Leith have symmetry with Paul? I can't see it because when she has been a judge on other things, she is quite abrasive. Of course it will be more important than ever to have a group of engaging cooks. Oh, it's all to play for!!!!

I imagine it'll start high, say 5-6m viewers but I imagine it'll fall to 2-3m as the series progresses

I'm very much looking forward to it. Loved the show on BBC but there's nothing that we can do to change what has happened. It'll feel different but that's because it will be different. The three new faces will bring a different dynamic to the show but ultimately it is still being made by the same production company but just showing on a different channel

I was there from day one, long before I was joined by the other millions, but as a matter of principle, I shall not be watching!
I think the BBC were very foolish not to invoke their holdback clause.

Agreed. I only watched in the first place because of Mel (of course I enjoyed it and was thrilled when it became huge), so it would feel disloyal to watch the new series. I like Sandi Toksvig (met her when I was on Fifteen to One) but do not like Noel Fielding. Prue was a bit up herself on Great British Menu but that's the style of that show, so maybe she'll adapt well to the Bake Off. Paul was my least favourite part of the original four and I guess he'll still be him.

I think we'll see a complete personality change from Leith when she's in this. Much more the apple-cheeked granny than the hard-nosed business woman that she is.

I'm definitely going to watch the new series. If I want to complain about it, then I want to know what I'm complaining about! No, it won't be the same, but I'm at least going to give it a go.

It's going to be the most ad-packed programme in CH4 history. Seventeen minutes of ads leaving just 41 minutes for the baking.

Critics have been shown the first episode and the general consensus is really positive with most saying it is essentially the same programme that we all know and love

It's going to be the most ad-packed programme in CH4 history. Seventeen minutes of ads leaving just 41 minutes for the baking. Well it's been given a 75 minute slot so it's not going to be that much shorter than a BBC episode when all's said and done. The question now is to watch it live so I can keep up with social media, or to give it 20 minutes before switching on so that I'd got the space to fast-forward through the ads...

Is it 75 minutes every episode or just the opener?

Bakers have been announced, too! You've got your gay, your lesbian, your Jewish mother, your 'oldest contestant ever', your 21 year old, your 19 year old, your middle-aged men and your millennials. It's like nothing's changed! thegreatbritishbakeoff.co.uk/bakers/series-8/

And they'll still continue with the pretext that they are Britain's amateur best bakers. They may not even be the best bakers who fit into the above categories.

Apparently Prue Leith is in trouble for suggesting to viewers that they watch on delay and fast forward through the adverts......!

Is it 75 minutes every episode or just the opener? Every ep as far as we know.
