Well, it was a good series with a nice mix of characters. I surprised myself by liking Sandi and Noel, though I felt we saw less of them than we did of Mel and Sue. Pru can go as far as I'm concerned. I don't think she makes good telly. And Paul? Paul should get iced and call himself a ginger snap.
Hopefully Channel 4 can run to some air conditioning next year - watching Steven's balloon basket dissolve in front of our eyes was torture.
I would be happy to see Steven, Liam, Yan, Julia or Tom doing a spot on GMTV or somewhere.

Very disappointed for Steven/Stephen
He was the best baker of the series. And as keeps happening, the best baker loses on the final.
Sophie's smugness really did grate on me and Kate should not have got that far though she did better than expected in the final.
No professional baker would undertake an entremet with only a domestic fridge. And that is part of my issue with the way the show has developed. They demand more and more with very tight deadlines and equipment that is just not up to the mark to deliver the pro standards they seek.
The other issue is the focus on design,design, design.
I would much rather they celebrated flavour more. I know viewers can't see tastiness. But I want a cake to taste great. I can forgive scruffy finishing more easily than bland flavours

I guessed Smugphie had won when the negative press on her came out a few days ago.
That showstopper might have been complicated to make but none of them looked great. Underwhelming.
Also, am I the only person to find the term ‘financier sponge’ ridiculous?

I've just discovered Bake Off The Professionals - started yesterday on channel 4. I loved it - gorgeous Liam (he wot was robbed in the last series) is presenting (not bad at all for a first dib) with a comedian who's actually quite bearable. (Tom Allen - did the Extra Slice a couple of times I think.) Judges are Cherish Finden and Benoit Blin (they're tough cookies, definitely no cuddly Mary) and the contestants seem to be a great bunch. I was actually sad that someone had to go home.

Did you see the previous series that were shown on BBC2 under the name of Creme de la Creme I think? I love this show and am fascinated about how they can make all these pastries look so damn perfect!
The female judge (Cherish?) is very exacting and to the point. Nice to see Hackney Liam on it too. We all wanted him to win regular Bake Off in our house last year!

No dontdreamit , I'd never heard of it before. I knew there was a professional Masterchef Australia spin-off and that was it. Just found it by accident on Catch-up. I think they've played a blinder getting Liam to present - a lot of people wanted to adopt him to win I think. |

They are well worth watching if you can get the chance- the last series was presented by Angus Deaton who was surprisingly good, and the first series by a food presenter whose name escapes me. They also had a third judge on the first series who was really good but simply disappeared when series two came on!

Tom Kerridge. I liked them enough but I don’t think they’ve learnt from the mistakes of the previous series. I like Tom Allen so I’m glad he’s getting some exposure but I’m not sure I can be bothered with this series.

Liam wasn’t given a lot to do was he? Hopefully he’ll get more confidence as it progresses. Never heard of Tom Allen before but really liked him. I really like this format but hate Tom Kerridge and Angus Dayton who presented on the Beeb so pleased to have likeable presenters this time.
Cherish is fabulous and Benoit makes eating cake look sexy. When I eat cake (which is often) I look very un-sexy and a bit deranged.
