Regarding the Queen visiting the bomb victims at the MRI, I thought she's supposed to be "amazing with people"? Knows "how to put people immediately at ease"? I'm afraid it looked exactly the opposite on the BBC news reports. Stilted and awkward, asking inane questions about whether the child enjoyed the concert and saying things like "I heard she's a good singer". Sorry Ma'am that's just not good enough. I'm not a particular fan of the younger royals but the recent campaign around mental health issues and the way they are trying engage and connect with people really makes grandma look like a dinosaur. As much as I respect her, it's high time to move on.

Speaking of Ms. Dearman, Queen Dearman, Empress Dearman... all applicable: I nearly caused Düsseldorf Airport to be evacuated in March because some idiot had left his bag unattended and I reported it. Luckily they found who owned it and he was all 'yeah, yeah, yeah' ('ja, ja, ja'), but just because you know whose bag it is, doesn't mean the rest of us do.

I had an experience, again the day after the Paris attacks, where I was on the train (got on at Bedford) and so did another man. It was a full train so we were standing in the little corridor bit by the doors, with several others and this man happened to be in the middle. Its goe to Luton Airport Parkway and then went on to St. Pancras with no stops between. Anywho, this man got off at Luton Airport Parkway, and left the bag he brought with him on the train in the centre of the group of us and the train carried on. The strange thing, and the thing that caused a lot of us alarm was he had the bag in his hand until he got to Luton, then he put the bag down and got off. So we all kinda stood there, but no one knew what to say, it was very tense, we were all kind of frozen with fear and there was no where else to move on the train it was that crowded. And then, about ten minutes later, an alarm on the train went off, and kept going off until we got to St. Pancras. But it was just one of those deer caught in headlights moments, none of us knew what to say or do, we were just frozen. We end up getting to St. Pancras, and no joke, as we pull in, there are about 10 police and armed police at the door next to us.
I never found out what was in the bag, but I was glad to get off that damn train!

*I should add to the above story, there were a few people who edged there way out of the corridor, and I'm assuming someone did raise the alert, which therefore got the police tipped about it.

I know some are probably bored of me being the one to post the Ariana updates, but I am a social media Queen.
She just posted an open-letter on twitter to everyone, and plans to do another concert in Manchester, raising money for the victims and their families.

She seems lovely. If Piers Morgan says that he had anything to do with her doing this I will be absolutely livid.

Though, in fairness, it did turn out fine!

I think we all have that natural fear of 'making a fuss' in the UK. But the chances of it being nothing to worry about are, thank goodness, pretty high even in these difficult times!

It has been heartwarming reading/seeing different people's tributes. Just came across this from Celine Dion at her concert the other night

Ariana Grande to be joined by Justin Bieber and Take That for the fundraiser concert.
No I'm not going to make a comment about Gary Barlow. You already know what I'm thinking.

I think it's great she is getting back on the road sooner rather than later. It is better to accept the horror of trauma and live with it than tamp it down and let it fester.
I wonder what security will be like?

I think it's great she is getting back on the road sooner rather than later. It is better to accept the horror of trauma and live with it than tamp it down and let it fester. I wonder what security will be like? I agree. Obviously it's her call, but I felt cancelling everythin indefinatly was going to be the harder option for her as a performer- it's always going to be really hard getting back out there, and she's so young, but I imagine leaving it months might make it worse. So for her as a performer doing this with other people is probably a really good thing to get her back out there. And also (grim as it is) returning to where it happened should hopefully have some cathartic elements for her as well. A lovely gesture for the people of Manchester and everyone else caught up in it as well- for a defiant city like Manchester I can't think of a better way to respond than having another concert.

Ariana seems to have a family and professional team supporting her; which is a great example of what everyone who suffers and fights through trauma needs.
Although I don't know the ins and outs of the situation of everyone effected, there seems to be a great deal of social support on the ground Manchester from the get go, which is very admirable from an outsider's perspective.
Provided, as emi said, it is on Ariana's schedule and takes into account what she can handle, positive action on her own terms is a way of taking back her own life and making the performance space her own as best as she possibly can. As her fan base is centred on liberated young women who celebrate their love of life by singing and dancing and engaging with each other publically this celebrates them as well.

I'm afraid it makes me more than a little uncomfortable that some of the victims' families aren't on board with the idea of this concert. Surely allowing a little time to pass and giving people space to grieve would have shown more sensitivity? A benefit concert could have been held 6 months to a year down the line, no?

Have you got any links to the families not being happy? (I'm not doubting, I just can't find anything online.)
I think really she's damned if she does, damned if she doesn't. Whenever she held it, someone would've found reason to criticise it. It's a shame that it's the families, but in my opinion, holding it sooner rather than later shows more strength and defiance.

Yes, it was in the police statement - thanks n1david.
I agree things like this are always going to be difficult, with so many families involved and thus so many different viewpoints. But it feels like in the 'olden days' if even one person dissented, this wouldn't have happened. In these days of public displays of grief, however, if you are someone who prefers to mourn in private, you run the risk of being shouldered aside in the rush for demonstrable emotion.
It's easy for us to show strength and defiance: we haven't lost a loved one in the attack (or at least, I sincerely hope we haven't; it would be horrendous). I guess for me it's sad that society claims its 'thoughts are with the families' but goes ahead anyway with an event that may hurt those families.

It's a really difficult situation. Some of the families may never feel it's an appropriate time. I hope the Ines who don't want to go, don't feel any pressure to attend.
