I can’t wait to see what it is like when they add the hydraulic set to “Let It Go” at the end of act 1!

I think musicalmarge is alluding to the fact that the set-less design is lacking an actual set piece. Unless s/he knows something we don't, I have not heard about new designs or scenery added to the Denver tryout.

With Frozen finally starting previews on Broadway next month - do you think they are going to make ANY changes? Surely they can’t just have Elsa finish Act One with a bare stage waving her arms in the air?

Although it would probably still run for a few years just because of the popularity of the movie.

By all accounts the bare stage approach didnt work all too well for Charlie & the Chocolate Factory... Does it ever work for shows that people pay a small fortune to see? It can work wonderfully in a small fringe theatre, but not in Broadway or West End productions in my opinion.

This is basically a black box show with a few key elements (albeit lavish ones) hinting at a greater image than provided.

Now I want to see a small-scale production that intentionally plays up the fact that the magical special effects are unachievable and deliberately uses cheesily unconvincing ones.

I think all will be forgiven if and when Frozen has an ice castle forming during Let It Go. Currently they just have snowflakes forming over the Swarovski curtain that they've borrowed from Dreamgirls.

Thats the one. The stage is basically a cage and its got the big spinny thing and wood chippings everywhere. No other set. It'll never succeed.

I think what we're forgetting about Phantom, Les Miz, Hamilton is that these are considered "serious" works..two are based on very famous novels with very lush scores, and Hamilton being one of the most successful musicals ever..there's definitely a lot more content and juice in all of these shows than a show based on a cartoon with a talking snowman that is essentially marketed for little people. Suffice to say, an abstract and sparse visual representation to create its world might not be the best way to go, given the content and intended audience.

I am sure no Disney exec or Broadway creative in 2017/18 would say “hey we saw how Charlie flopped we see how successful Wicked and Harry Potter have been with the stage magic - let’s go for a simple glitter curtain and nothing else for the end of act one?” I am hoping with every atom the stage work and hydraulics are so amazing, expensive and sensational that they just couldn’t do it in Denver. This show has the potential to make billions, without a successful Let It Go - this show will be a flop. We.... shall..... see.....

Well even with all the negativity and my own pre-conceptions, i decided i couldn't miss this during my May trip so i booked a mid mezz seat & tried not to look at my bank balance. I'm cautiously optimistic based on the cast, and ready to be bored base ion the director

an abstract and sparse visual representation to create its world might not be the best way to go, given the content and intended audience. Fair points and well made, ali973 . In reply, I'd say that Disney say at all their press launches that they don't do "adaptations of animated features for the stage." Instead, they take the whole project from scratch each time. This is true that this is what they say, but I've always been very skeptical. To me it just sounds like part of their overall messaging when addressing their public. I don't doubt their process in constructing the story and concept from scratch, and I know that this is not the film on stage - but they've yet to convince me that these shows are complete departures from the original films. The only stage adaptation that could make this claim is perhaps Hunchback.

Some of the new songs Singles will start dropping next month. There will be a song released every month from 23 Feb: "Monster," (a new Act Two solo for Elsa) "What Do You Know About Love?" (a new duet for Anna and Kristoff) "Dangerous to Dream" (a new interior monologue sung by Elsa) "True Love" (a new Act Two solo for Anna) Source: www.broadwayworld.com/article/Breaking-FROZEN-Fridays-Four-New-Songs-to-Drop-Every-Friday-Beginning-223-20180126I read somewhere else that they are changing about 30% of the show they tested in Denver. Let's hope there's a castle set.

I think it’s clear from 90 percent of people reading from all the sites and reviews that it needs a Defying Gravity moment. The song was written visually for it!

Let's hope there's a castle set. I read the article as 1 song releasing per week not 1 a month. Just saying because if so it means I'll have all the songs in time for my Broadway trip at the end of April. I agree though they really need to pull something out the bag for Let it go. I will be incredibly disappointed if all we get is the crystal curtain, as amazing as Caissie's vocal is on that song. There is a time and place in musical theatre for your female lead to stand and belt on an empty stage, but the climax to Act 1 of a huge Disney musical is not that place, especially when its THAT song and THAT moment.I saw that video and as slick as that costume change is,I need massive great shards of ice rising from the floor and a huge ice chandelier forming above my head! Disney musicals can differ from their original movies yes,but certain scenes have to not only be present but faithfully replicated. I guess we will find out in three weeks whether this gonna sink or swim. xx
