I was thinking, with this year's nominations announcement due in a few weeks, and (if it's going by previous years) the cut off is usually around now (mid to late February)... why not start an "eligibility list" for next year?! It isn't perfect, I know, and there'll be plenty of things that I've missed out or shouldn't be there, but hey it's a start! Feel free to add or copy and paste the whole thing to update or whatever as hopefully more and more stuff will be announced over the next year. Best New Musical
Hamilton – Victoria Palace Committee… – Donmar Warehouse Young Frankenstein – Garrick Pinocchio – National Theatre The Wind in the Willows – London Palladium An American in Paris – Dominion Best Musical Revival

Imelda Staunton – Follies Miranda Hart – Annie Rachel Ann Go – Hamilton Katherine Jenkins – Carousel Leanne Cope – An American in Paris I think Follies will dominate the musical categories - don't forget Philip Quast for Best Actor in a Musical and Janie Dee also for Best Actress with Staunton. I think Staunton will score another easy win for Best Actress in a Musical for her Sally having won for her Lovett and Mama Rose… She's also probably a shoo in for Best Actress in a Play for Virginia… Judi Dench won the 2 best actress gongs in the '90s, Staunton could do easily do the same.

Every other actress wanting an award is probably fuming that Imelda is doing both a play and a musical in the same year.

I believe she did something similar in 2015 with Gypsy and Good People opening within a few months of each other (I think?) but she was nominated for the play in '15 and Gypsy in '16.

Good People was spring 2014 then she did Gypsy at Chichester that autumn, before it transferred to the Savoy spring 2015. So technically there was a year between the two, in terms of the Oliviers.

With apologies to the thread starter, I have to admit I don't entirely understand why there is a need for predictions for an awards show when this year's one hasn't even happened! What would be the detriment in waiting a few months until at least half the potentially eligible productions have actually opened and we actually know if any of them are any good? No point in speculating on nothing as far as I'm concerned, especially when all the productions for this year probably haven't finished being announced yet, never mind cast or opened...

^ Because I don't see why we have to go for logic in a message board… People do this for fun, and we all discuss theatre because we love it, so why the hell not? lol

I'm afraid I don't think it's likely that Ros and Guil or Arturo Ui will get Best Revival nominations; plays just not good enough. Nothing for the SRB Tempest, which is in London this summer?

That's the bit I really don't understand!

Well I left a reply on the 2017 Oliviers thread and no one bothered to respond or discuss this year's awards, so why the hell not start discussing the 2018 ceremony? You should go back to the 2017 thread and start some discussions there, then we can all respond to you.

Ok, so maybe I did start this a LITTLE early. But honestly, I wasn't starting this thread to look at it competitively (or not just yet at least!), I thought it would be a great way of breaking down what is coming up over the next year for us theatre fans to get excited about. I know it's cliched to say this, but I really just see award ceremonies like the Oliviers as a great way to celebrate London theatre in general. To be honest I don't even mind if this thread doesn't get used again until next year...or even at all! I just think it would be nice to have a go at listing, while this year's Oliviers is continuing to be discussed in it's own thread. It isn't like the creation of this thread is preventing the 2017 one from being. And, to be honest, I'm already bored now of the 2018 awards, so I present to you the start of... The Olivier Awards 2019 Thread!!!! Best New Musical
Duffy – (Venue tba) Best Play Revival
Macbeth – National Theatre Anthony and Cleopatra – National Theatre Best ActorRory Kinnear – Macbeth at the National Theatre Ralph Fiennes – Anthony and Cleopatra at the National Theatre Best ActressAnne Marie-Duff – Macbeth at the National Theatre Best Actress in a Musical
Katherine Kingsley – Duffy at (Venue tba). Once again, feel free to update with anything eligible for the 2019 awards. #TeamMacbeth #TeamKinnear

Whatever, I love all things awards and could discuss this stuff all day. If people don't want to come in this thread then you don't have to! My extremely early predictions are Hamilton winning Best Musical, Follies winning Revival, Giles Terera winning actor and Imelda winning actress.

It is a bit stupid
Your don't even know all the eligible shows opening
And some haven't even been announced
I bet Tamsin Greig will get a nomination for best actress this year
No one even mentioned her before
We could all be dead before 2018

We could all be dead before the Oliviers this year. We could all be dead before the Oscars next week. Isn't gonna stop people from predicting them anyway.
Again, if you think it's stupid, no one is forcing you to partake.

By 2018 the Oliviers will have changed its name to "The MasterCard Awards" with the strap line "credit where credit is due".

I dpn't think Hamilton will be the big sweep it was in the Tonys... it will get loads of nominations and some wins, but, as said previously, in a year where Imelda is pretty much already a lock in two catagories in performances we haven't seen yet (which i don't begrudge, because she will most likely be amazing in both!), the actresses will probably be groaning if they are a lead actress in the play or musical catagory haha.

Well to be fair Hamilton didn't win leading actress at the Tonys either. Follies being a revival will help Hamilton.

It's a helpful reminder what to look out for ticket-booking-wise in the next months if nothing else.
The "New Musicals" section looks fairly dire though apart from Hamilton. I hope a few more new things will be announced in the months to come, whether Broadway transfers or brand-new productions.

Olivier Awards 2018
Compiled another list, as I did with the Olivier Awards last year, but this year I am not going to do the acting category as the last thread become a bit overwhelming.
Great news that every category has been filled, with every slot full, every applicant is now a bonus - which I love to see, so the 2018 awards are up and running and it is game on already.
Best musical
Wind in the Willows An American in Paris Bat Out of Hell The Musical Hamilton Young Frankenstein Committee
Best musical Revival
42nd Street On The Town Annie Carousel Follies
Best Play
Don Juan in Soho The Ferryman Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar and Grill Queen Anne Ugly Lies The Bone A Tale of Two Cities Stepping Out Consent Network Limehouse
Best Play Revival
The Goat, or who is Sylvia? Cat On A Hot Tin Roof The Miser Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead The Philanthropist Woyzeck Angels in America Salome The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui
