Sounds like you did all the right things, good thinking on the pulse. Must have been terrifying but you clearly rose to the occasion. Hope he's back home safe and sound soon. Thanks duck! It’s mad how I lose my head and flap over small things but in emergency I’m cool calm and collected! (Though I did burst into tears afterwards!) I feel like the past 2 weeks has been 2 months, it’s been ALOT! Is it only 4 days since Linzi’s last Joseph show? Feels like 3 weeks!

I had a lovely day, thank you, david. Methodist chapel on the outside, high-tech theatre on the inside. I bet most theatres in London's glittering West End don't have big screws under the stalls! The BBC had been forecasting heavy rain, so obviously it was sunny all day. Even the trains were on time. If I weren't busy, I'd go back on Saturday. One of the nearby bars is advertising a PA from The Cheeky Girls for freshers' week. Never let it be said we don't get the big stars in Yorkshire!

My brother in law is mowing the grass. At 8.30 at night, in the dark.
So erm?

First my local urban fox started stealing garden gloves and the cats food dishes. Then at the weekend it decided to open up the bags of compost spilling the contents allover the floor, breaking some solar lights and jumping up and down on all the plants in the flower bed. But today was a whole new ball game. I had the back door open and was in the lounge. I went out later into the garden and found, on the grass, the door mat, my flip flops, Bath mat and pedestal mat. Don't you just love them!

You started page 500, alece10. I wonder if you get a certificate or summat? Today, on my tour of towns beginning with H, I'm in 'ull. With the sun shining on the 'umber, it's just like being in Halkidiki!

Goodness definitely a fox alece10? Foxes here either scarper if they see you or make it absolute clear that you are beneath contempt and their notice, I can only imagine they'd beat you to death with a flip flop rather than have fun stealing it.

Definately a fox. He/she lives in the alleyway at the bottom of my garden and see them every day. In fact the stray cat I feed is often seen lying in the sun near the fox. They seem to be good mates.

Trouble getting home after shopping this morning because the roads were partially blocked by huge queues of morons panic-buying petrol. At least we're not quite in the same state as when the US had its own panic-created shortage a few months ago, when people were putting fuel in plastic bags and loading it into the back of their cars because apparently that's totally a sane reaction. Some of the tabloids are praising the PM for deciding to allow foreign truck drivers into Britain to relieve the shortage while carefully glossing over the fact that he's the reason they went away in the first place.
ETA: I've just seen a picture of a pub with a sign outside: "Beer shortage soon. Panic buy here."

Well, at the end I felt like inhaling some of cook Jackie's tinned goods.
If anyone spots a Dr Foster/Vigil mashup please link it here.

I was just reminded that 91 years ago today the R101 crashed, putting an end to Britain's dreams of a worldwide airship network.
As a child I had a book on airships and I was captivated by the stories of these giants of the sky gliding overhead. I've seen the old airship hangers at Cardington and they're bigger than you think even when you take that they're bigger than you think into account. What it must have been like to see something that size drifting through the air above you.
(Truth is, they weren't always much fun to travel in. The Graf Zeppelin, successful though it was, lacked heating and on trans-Atlantic flights passengers had to huddle up in furs to endure several days of near-Arctic temperatures.)

Today, on my tour of towns and cities beginning with H, I'm in...Leeds. 🙂
The 35 mile journey, on a 30 year old train, *only* took 1 hour 18 minutes. The return is scheduled to be a full 10 minutes faster, being downhill. I might even be home in time to catch the last couple on Strictly.
So many stags and hens about. I wish I'd brought my cape!

Nice day to sit in the sunshine, having a beer and a pub lunch, watching the year's last butterflies and wasps.

Spent the day tidying the garden, cutting the grass and getting it ready for the winter. Took a well earned break just now and enjoyed the afternoon sun with a cup of tea and some Fortnums biscuits I'd been saving. Heard new neighbours showing a friend around their garden saying "we are getting inspiration from next doors garden" and she said "oh it's very cute!" So that made my day.

I feel like some higher power wants to keep me at home lately!! I was meant to go to Dorset with my parents in Sept but then my dad had heart problems so we rearranged it to this week. My Dad’s heart problems continued, so that had to be cancelled too. He seems ok thankfully now. So I kept my annual leave and decided instead I’d go to Edinburgh for 2 days weds/thurs and booked up. Woke up yesterday morning feeling a bit rough and proceeded to experience the worst stomach bug!! So had to cancel that too! I’m still feeling rough but I think I’ve turned a corner, still not up for travelling to Scotland though. Deffo someone somewhere wants to keep me at home!!!! Norovirus is pretty much the least fun everrrr

One thing I did not miss in 18 months of staying at home was Great Northern wrecking my train journeys on a frequent basis. Tonight I dashed from the ROH to Kings Cross only to find all the trains were marked as delayed. Fortunately I was able to speak to a member of staff quite quickly & was told to go to Liverpool Street so I made it round in time to get the last train from there to Cambridge. I had to break my promise not to use the tube though & I'm now on a train that takes 1h25 rather than 50 mins so I won't get home until about ten to one.

Dawnstar, you were in my corner of London (King's Cross)! Sorry to hear it did not exactly shine last night, though... I've been feeling so tired this week, and work has been oddly stressful... So I decided I needed a day brightener, and ended up buying a return bus ticket to Nottingham, to see Alex Henry Foster and the Long Shadows play a small concert at the Rough Trade there, on 4 November. Which is possibly a little crazy, because I will be seeing them the week before in London, and the day after Nottingham, in Bristol, opening for The Pineapple Thief, but what would life be without a little bit of crazy in it?! Sadly I didn't think to book for Mark Gatiss while there, and only realised later that my bus arrives too late for the really early 1:30 matinee. *sigh* I should plan better next time, and not impulsively book bus tickets at 1AM, probably (and there's this one, lonely cheap ticket in the Playhouse auditorium teasing me to go for it still, and get a new bus ticket...). If anyone here is from Nottingham, tips and ideas on where to go and what to do for an afternoon absolutely welcome! (Also, do come to the concert: it is free, and it will be beautiful, promise!)

Blimey, this band must be quite something! Take the hit and change your plans, Forrest. Deep down, you know you want to. It's what Mark would want too. 🙂 If you use code AUTUMN15, it may offset some of the extra cost. Otherwise there's Nottingham Castle, and Nottingham Contemporary, and Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem, and the River Trent, and the canal...

It will be quite a day. Also, the band is amazing, highly recommended! But I simply love travelling, and adventure, and I'll jump at any opportunity for one (especially if it can be done on a budget. And November is my birthday month, so it was a no-brainer...)

Absolutely the right decision, Forrest. I can't believe I missed mushy peas off my list. Mushy peas and mint sauce, in the market, is a must!

I’ve not been able to book my flu jab online with my GP, phoned the GP surgery last week who specifically told me to go to the drop in the afternoon. Left work early (not easy in my job) turned up to be asked if I was under 65. When I said yes they told me I couldn’t have my jab today and needed to come back and they will text out a new drop-in date 🙄
