I own a medium size collection of flashlights. This allows me to be confident about power cuts; I am prepared to deploy my many lights. Years pass without a single power cut. Finally, the power goes out! Unfortunately it's at 05:00 in July, when it's light enough not to need a flashlight. Daylight power cuts are no fun. They're just annoying. Out of curiosity, how many do you own?

Contacted by test and trace. Again. This time I only have 7 days left on the clock but I still hate having to be so isolated.

Meanwhile we had a mysterious middle-of-the-night powercut of indeterminate length... only noticed because oven clock had zero'd itself and microwave clock was running several hours 'slow'. My recently inherited mantle clock - originally my great granddad's - also stopped in sympathy. Or maybe I forgot to wind it. 🙄

Contacted by test and trace. Again. This time I only have 7 days left on the clock but I still hate having to be so isolated. And now my two housemates have also both been contacted. We have a 100% hit rate at #33 despite us living totally separate lives outside the house and being contacted at separate times. We’re wearing masks in the communal areas, spending 23.5 a day in our rooms and wiping touch points like crazy people. Not very relaxing, particularly in the heat.

Not a great way to end my holiday. Just been pinged on the nhs app for the 5 day self isolation. I hope everybody else is having a better day.

I’ve turned my app off and I’m gonna delete it. I don’t wanna get pinged I think it’s daft! If you’ve had close contact with someone who’s actively infectious ie coughing and visibly ill then yeah, but spending 15 mins within a few metress of someone asymptotic then having to isolate seems ridiculous to me. They asked me to check in at the theatre yesterday and I tried but the app wouldn’t work cos I turned exposure notifications off so they had me fill in a form instead. Fine by me. Sod that app though!!

Feeling tired after yesterday, and was up at stupid o clock this morning cos I went to bed at 10 last night so my brain thought 4am was the right time to wake up!! Had a visit from my baby nephew this morning and now this afternoon I have vaccine number 2!! As if it’s 8 weeks and 1 day since my first! I could have brought it forward to yesterday but ever an optimist, I kept yesterday free in case my Joseph ticket came through! Fingers crossed I don’t have any side effects cos I’m off work next week and have plans for every day.

Sod that app though!! Yeah, at least I got to see all my shows I wanted to see and a few others that were last minute. I wouldn’t have missed Linzi’s performance last night for anything. With being in London since last weekend, I ‘m really surprised the app hadn’t pinged sooner after the walking through the carnage in and around Leicester Square last Saturday then I really would have been fuming. I’m double jabbed and I’ll take a LFT when I get home this afternoon.

Recently added some flora and fauna to help nurture bees and butterflies and after a few weeks of not much success, the news must have gotten out. Spent a good part of the morning watching crowds of both feasting. More traffic back and forth than early morning arrivals at Heathrow.

Poor you vickyg and david. I hope you are both feeling OK? I got my second shot of the Moderna vaccine yesterday, and was arrogantly commenting to a friend how - after feeling awful after the last one - this one didn't affect me at all, I actually felt great after it. Should have known better, though: I woke up at 6 AM this morning to a 38,7 C temperature and a terrible headache. Have spent the day in bed, munching on crackers and paracetamol and watching the two last episodes of Netflix' "Bordertown" in short intervals. I also had the link to the Lyric's "Out West" from last night, so re-watched that too to make the time go faster. I haven't been down with a high temperature in years, have completely forgotten what a nuisance it is.

Forrest Ouch. Is Moderna supposed to be worse after the second dose, like Pfizer is supposed to be? (I had AstraZeneca so mine was, as expected, worse after the first dose.)

Poor you vickyg and david . I hope you are both feeling OK? I also had the link to the Lyric's "Out West" from last night, so re-watched that too to make the time go faster. I haven't been down with a high temperature in years, have completely forgotten what a nuisance it is. I travelled back home this morning and thankfully the LFT came up negative. Hopefully my other tests will be the same as I’m not got any symptoms thankfully. I feel your pain Forrest . When I had my second moderna jab last month, I only lasted a few hours in work before I had to go home as the side effects kicked in. The day after thankfully was a Saturday which like you was spent mostly in bed drinking lucozade and taking paracetamol. The side effects only lasted the one day and I was back up and running the next. Hopefully it will be the same for you. I’m just glad I got pinged on my last night of my London trip. It would have been gutting if I had to have cancelled it all if it had happened at the start.

Dawnstar, yes the reaction to Moderna is supposed to be worse after the second shot, so this wasn't exactly unexpected. I just sort of thought I'd had my share of side-effects after the first one, because I was a textbook example of things that you can "get" alongside the vaccine, but clearly, no. :) david, good that the LFT is negative! And yes, although the timing to get "pinged" (another new covid-word in our vocabulary!) is never exactly right, it's somewhat lucky that it happened on the last day, so you still got to enjoy the trip! :) Also, comforting to know that the Moderna side-effects didn't last long for you. At this point I cannot imagine I'll be fully functional for work tomorrow, but fingers crossed.

Don't read if you're eating/about to eat!
After some very hot and frustrating time trying to herd the grand total of two sheep at my sister's to try and catch one of them with flystrike (cue lots of arm flapping and facing the realisation that the sheep has a much faster turn of speed and agility that you and if it decides to run through you you're going to come off worse) finally managed to pin it between and the quad bike to get the treatment applied. I have never seen so many maggots in my life, within seconds of the spray going on hundreds just erupted out in a wriggling mess, utterly gross. Sheep unsurprisingly looked much happier afterwards if blue.

On my way to Cornwall on the train. Now I've got the over 60s card it means I can travel 1st class and not break the bank. Plus you get lots of lovely snacks and drinks free without having to leave your seat. Its a glorious day as well. Not really a holiday but a short break to visit my family and intern my dad's ashes who passed away in April. After we do this tomorrow we are going for a cream tea and as its Cornwall it has to be jam first.

Just been watching the Jeff Bezos rocket trip. What a fantastic experience it must have been today. Though the highlight was hearing on the BBC that one of the crew was 82 year old Wally Funk who was part of the original Space Race programme. After a 60-year wait, it's great to see her finally achieve her ambition.

Rumbles of thunder have been going on for a couple of hours where I am but only a brief spell of rain. Thank goodness it's brought the temperature down a bit, though I fear when the sun comes back out it'll be muggy as hell, & then very warm overnight.

I felt quite sorry for someone in work having to isolate. Then I found out that the little s*** has actually gone on holiday. I’m not going to report it or anything, but pretty miffed either way.

That's just not right, I know some people at my work that were asked to self isolate and when they got back they hadn't only stayed at home. I mean they didn't go on holiday but they did go for shopping and things like that.

Someone at work is isolating as their daughter has just tested positive, in talking to my boss she said I hope that doesnt' mean he can't now go on holiday with his mother' and i'm like well no they're isolating and she was like it's only guidance I really shouldn't have been surprised at her reaction when I said I wasn't comfortable having an all day meeting with 20 odd people face to face should I.

I got a front row seat to see Nick Cave & Warren Ellis at the promised land that is the Fairfield Halls in Croydon this morning: God knows why he has chosen to play there, I know he lives in Brighton so maybe he has happy memories of getting the train up for a fun day out watching pantomimes there?
Only musical acts I’ve seen playing there are Saint Etienne (with Trevor & Simon) and Chas & Dave, I’m still thinking someone at his management made a typo booking the venues for this tour.
