Minor successes: when you're sitting at traffic lights waiting to turn left, and you flip your indicators on and then one second later the lights start to change so the people behind you think you're psychic or have the ability to command traffic lights with your mind.

Just been to the theatre for the 4th time since they reopened to see the Damned United at Leeds Playhouse. Not sure what I was expecting, but it certainly wasn't an audience largely composed of Leeds United fans. Dirty Leeds

Much as I dislike Amazon's 19th century approach to employment I have to admit their delivery is good. Last night I decided to buy another torch. I chose not to pay extra for next day delivery and selected free delivery instead ("by Friday 2nd"). They shipped it within six hours and it arrived this afternoon.

What a victory yesterday afternoon, rolled back the years. Haven't celebrated a win like that for years. I'm still on a big high

Someone I respect hugely responded to a tweet of mine and I'm not going to lie that may be the most satisfying thing to happen in ages.

Just back from the shops with my lovely new Charlie Dimmock garden shovel, which is really a dustpan, and my lovely new lawn rake. I don't actually have a lawn, but I'm sure it will come in. It's adjustable...and everything!
I only went in for some Shout, to keep my shirts looking very stylish, but the shelf was bare.
Then it's a bag of chips for tea, before settling down with a *few* cans of Bombardier for a big night in front of the TV...Chesney Hawkes on Top of the Pops, Kinky Boots and the final two episodes of the first season of The Killing. It doesn't get better than that!

Had a nap, now in that slightly zoned state of slept in day, can't now function.
Really must finish series 1 of the Killing having finally discovered, I still haven't quite got over thinking it was 8 episodes and then discovering it was in fact 20.

Had a migraine for two days but it's finally lifted and it's so amazing to just feel well after going through one of those. When in the midst of one it feels like it will never end and all you want is oblivion.
Just been sorting out my grandmother's birthday present for her 100th, which is in a few weeks!

Having a day out in Sheffield to watch Victoria Wood’s “Talent” and I just walked past this shop in the city centre. Nice to see BurlyBeaR keeping an interest in the city.

Can we have a report back please. I saw it at the Menier when she directed it. I got to meet her and I'm not sure who was the most nervous.

A long time ago I posted something to the effect of:
Things you don't want to find in your car while driving: 1) Wasps.
To that I'd like to add:
2) Facespider.

Just found a very useful sign in my hostel room. I always wondered what they were. Now I know.

I imagine it's intended for the benefit of overseas visitors who are looking for 2 pin sockets.

After the craziness of yesterday’s events in central London, it’s a chill out day in my first visit to Kew Gardens today. With no traffic or drunk’s, the tranquil setting of the gardens is the perfect setting to destress.

Having a day out in Sheffield... I'm very late to reply, but still a little jealous: I have a soft spot for Sheffield. Was thinking of doing the Sheffield half marathon this year, just to have an excuse to go, but preparations aren't going quite according to plan (I blame the constant rain over this past month, but really I have been a little lazy)... I might still go just for the "world famous" Crucible and a Steam Yard cronut, though, it would absolutely be worth the trip! I had a job interview today with an American lady who asked almost no questions aside from how much money I was after (too little, as I realised later!), but kept telling me I was "amazing", after she was 10 minutes fashionably late for the meeting. Am absolutely clueless on the prospects of getting the job, but cannot stop thinking about how strange that was.

The best thing about the Sheffield half marathon is the last 8 miles are all downhill; the worst thing about the Sheffield half marathon is the first five miles are all uphill.

Finally able to see parents after the best part of a year so a spot of baking to take. Including a mocha walnut Swiss Roll - a prototype of a cake idea - IF it lasts the journey. But then my policy is: if I get caught in a traffic jam I am allowed to munch whatever is to hand!

An interesting afternoon spent walking the tunnels of the London Mail Rail system. The train ride was fun but walking through the tunnels certainly gives you a different perspective. I’d certainly wouldn’t be wanting to work down there for any length of time.

I realised on eating my chilli that I only put half the chilli in. Sigh. It's been that kind of week and I'm tired of it.
Raised with boss that I had reservations about an away day and night with work where we'll all sit in a closed room for a whole day (to say nothing of the fact that my only way to get there would be train or shared lift if I could get one). Her surprise was evident, it's been clear of the last 15 months that our response to covid has been different but I was rather surprised to find just how different.

Spent some time thinking about the number of people I've seen here in the States who are incensed when things in their lives have not returned to the level of normality they expect should be the case by now ... and then lash out in anger at anyone near them. Human behavior is, um, interesting.

I own a medium size collection of flashlights. This allows me to be confident about power cuts; I am prepared to deploy my many lights. Years pass without a single power cut. Finally, the power goes out! Unfortunately it's at 05:00 in July, when it's light enough not to need a flashlight.
Daylight power cuts are no fun. They're just annoying.
