Being in tier 4 meant that it was Christmas alone for me, but it was no different from any other Christmas as I have spent Christmas alone for longer than I can remember and before that I actually worked on Christmas day for almost 30 years. However I still have a decent day with roast dinner (lamb this year) and not having to answer to anyone means that I don't have to comply with the tradition of having the meal at lunchtime. So it was smoked salmon and sour cream blinis for lunch and lamb for dinner. I can also have a little siesta in the afternoon. A highlight this year was seeing Santa! We have a Facebook group for our street and surrounding one and someone posted a few days ago that they had bought a Santa suit from Amazon and had the idea of walking down the street waving to the children on Christmas day for a bit of fun. So at 11am I went outside with the pretense of taking out the rubbish and was amazed to see practically everyone in the street outside to see Santa. He came down the road ringing a bell with all the little kids following behind him. It was so nice with everyone wishing each other a merry Christmas. Such a simple idea but so lovely. Even got to meet my new next door neighbours who had moved in a few weeks ago but because of lockdown I had not yet met. Seem very nice with a little baby and a little dog. I was far more interested in the dog than the baby though. Its now Boxing Day and I really want to take down the few decorations I have up as its all over now but I will try and resist until Sunday.

edi, who knows, we may have crossed paths without knowing it. :) alece10, your neighbourhood sounds super-adorable. My neighbourhood is not too festive somehow, hardly any "Christmas-kitsch" of the adorable kind. But given the circumstances, I guess that's pretty understandable. (My flat is the same: we all rent, and struggle with storage space, so none of us got any decorations.) I felt like a kid in a candy store wandering around Chelsea, with so many beautiful Christmas wreaths (on beautiful doors). No Santa, though. :)

I saw the footage on the FB page, and it looked amazing to see so many people out! I particularly liked it when Santa skateboarded down the street 🙂 It’s was the quietest Christmas ever for us, although the children loved it as usual we were really missing their grandparents. The current plan is to have 2 more Christmases later in the year when each set of grandparents have been vaccinated. My mother in law has even promised the children she’ll get the tree out of the loft and decorate it especially, even if it’s not until summer!

I planned to recce the new journey to work, which I did, but then the day turned into an epic potter around every small green space between Spa Fields (Farringdon) and Vauxhall Park. So lovely. This discovery was probably my favourite. Only became aware of it becasue of children laughing and the sound carrying (no traffic today in the West End!). tbh, I think it's a repurposed burial ground: www.ianvisits.co.uk/blog/2018/08/22/londons-pocket-parks-drury-lane-gardens-wc2/

A friend once took me to Postman’s Park where they have plaques commemorating heroic deeds. These little places are so fascinating. Can’t wait to get back to a walk in the City area. Too far for me to get there ‘as exercise.’

A friend once took me to Postman’s Park where they have plaques commemorating heroic deeds To bring it back to theatre - Postman's Park plays a key role in plot of Patrick Marber's Closer. One of the character's name is taken from a plaque in the park and the film actually shot key scenes there (and it became quite a tourist attraction for a few years after the film was released).

Heh. It was a day of many tv references. Epic scenes in, fi, Red Lion Square and Bodyguard, and Smithfield and Sherlock. Postman's Park is a wonderful example of these tiny places, not parks really. In the same area, the tiny gardens on the sides of St Paul's is also a good spot for a sit down.
I really must stop off at Southwark Cathedral tomorrow as I do keep forgetting it's there!

Since I've had a dashcam I've started recording some of my favourite journeys and speeding them up so I can relive them, which is particularly useful at the moment when I can't go anywhere for real. While watching one from last summer I suddenly noticed the speed it claimed I was doing. Most of the time a dashcam's speed measurement is quite accurate. Other times, less so: It also seems to think I'm in Norway. (It's actually Cumbria.)

It also seems to think I'm in Norway. Are you sure you are not the vet in the new All creature's great and small?!! Looks very like the scenery up there. Lovely photo by the way.

My day started off well as I used my fancy new waffle iron. So I present to you potato and parmesan waffles... I promise not to waffle on about it!

That reminds me, a few years back I gave my sister waffle irons on the understanding that she must make me a waffle, no waffle so far!

Every time I think this year cannot throw more bad things at us, I somehow get proven wrong: yesterday there was an earthquake in Croatia, where I'm from, which has literally partially destroyed two smaller cities and devastated a handful of villages. I've been following the events there and it's all so overwhelming.
This year has been so tough, but it feels impossible to even complain, since there are so many who have it worse. (You've made your point 2020!)

So sorry to hear your news @forrest The whole year has been an appalling sh*tshow. Only 27 hours to go ...
Anyway, the 2020 production of Uncle Vanya is on at 10pm (and I presume the iPlayer after). BBC4

Out of date lemon fancies for pudding tonight. 50p for a box of eight...so I bought two. The shop assistant was very reluctant to split a packet, but he eventually relented. 🤣
"Covered with a citrussy lemon flavour fondant icing" they are. Aren't lemons always citrussy? 🤔

Lemon is best fruit.
I'm a sucker for anything lemon. I'll even pull lemon slices out of drinks and eat them (providing I've seen them travel from lemon to glass to me). I wouldn't go quite so far as to eat one like you'd eat an orange, but if anything comes in a lemon flavour I'll go for it.

Just watched Happiest Season, the lesbian Christmas ‘rom-com’ that is neither romantic nor comedic.
Odd film. It’s like someone tacked a happy ending and some slapstick onto a film that was intended to be a drama.

New role, new location today Damn, London is quiet - and about to get a lot quieter it seems. Have to take a train tomorrow and expect to be the only person on the platform and in the carriage - and this is Farringdon: 28 Days Later, part 3.

I tested negative for covid this morning after quite a scare. (Don't get me started on the self-administering of the tests, though.) I also got a care package from my sister, who worried that I might be ill, so she sent me everything, from tissues to paracetamol and tea and honey, which was the sweetest thing ever. I then paid it forward by ordering some surprise chocolates for a friend (who is stressing out because her management at work borderlines on incompetent), so I guess the day has been kind of good.
I also returned to work after two weeks off, which felt strange somehow.
Also, I've read the last few posts on this thread, and now I'm really craving a lemon drizzle cake.

I joined Theatreboard today as I know I'm going to get lonely during the latest lockdown, and one of the things I miss most about normal life is theatre. I'm hoping to take my mind of things a bit by posting here.

Today I spent nearly 3 hours patching a 15 year old pair of jeans. It baffles me that some people spend hundreds of pounds on deliberately-ripped jeans.
