I joined Theatreboard today as I know I'm going to get lonely during the latest lockdown, and one of the things I miss most about normal life is theatre. I'm hoping to take my mind of things a bit by posting here. Welcome 😊😊😊

Today I spent another 3 hours patching my other elderly pair of jeans. I have sore fingers. Now I spend hours doing that sort of thing and for much more insignificant clothes that are cheap and wonder if I'm mad but seems shouldn't just throw them because of a hole. Even if now some of my clothes are more repairs than actual clothes. Oh and my repairs are terrible, no neat patching for me and invariably manage to sew wrong bits together. I always think must be drafty in ripped jeans but think that's me showing my age.

I remember in the late 70s, early 80s going to Kensington High Street Market and buying 2nd hand levi 501s imported from the USA. That was at the height of the ripped jeans trend and you could get a pair for a tenner, well worn and ready ripped. These days people pay £100 plus for designer ready ripped ones.

I don't repair knickers or socks when they go into holes, because it just doesn't seem worth it when you can buy 5 pairs for £5 at M&S, but I'll have a got at repairing most other garments. I'm not very good at non-visible repairs but usually I'll only wear repaired items around the house so it doesn't matter.
I agree, & also, with my OCD, I think it's unhgenic to have lots of bits of skin exposed.

It's that blinkin' cold, comfort food is the order of the day, so it's baked beans and sausages for tea, on hot, buttered toast, obvs.
For pudding, I've decided against making a start on the 57 mince pies I have in the pantry, or the eight citrussy lemon fondant fancies. Instead, I'm going to work my way through a tub of all butter flapjacks while I watch Rick Stein and Paul McCartney. Reduced from £2 to just 49p they were!

Re: sewing... I have a very nice cashmere sweater that's been sitting on my sofa for weeks now, awaiting repair of numerous moth(?) holes that appeared over the summer. I already tried repairing it by simply sewing the holes but that looked like the sweater had pimples. So I bought some matching buttons with the intent of sewing them over the holes. Now I'm afraid I'll botch it and have to toss out a perfectly good and expensive sweater. So I'm putting off the repair so I can put off the failure and put off the loss of a favorite item.

Had one of those horrible one ish day bugs yesterday. Woke up hot, feeling sick, dizzy when walking... won't bore you with more details. This morning feeling a bit more steady on my feet but taking it easy. Also have a new phone just arrived to cope with!

We take delivery of a new mattress today, a memory foam one for the first time. Strange how with being in a lockdown these sorts of things become the highlight of the week!

Our electrical items seem to dislike lockdowns. End of lockdown 1: freezer failed. Lockdown 2: boiler broke. This evening: my bedroom light fitting broke. No way on earth am I having an electrician in so making do with my bedside lamp & my mother's spare bedside lamp.
(Any chance we could keep the arguments about US politics off this thread? I think there's a Trump thread somewhere.)

You'll be relieved to learn, BurlyBeaR, that it's citrussy lemon fondant fancies for pudding tonight. It's very sweet of you to be so concerned for my welfare, but there really is no need. Having been brought up on mouldy bread and cheese sandwiches, my brothers and I all have the constitution of oxen. "Mum, the breads mouldy." "Gerrit dahn ya, it'll put 'airs on your chest." For luncheon, I had out of date cocktail sausages...that I bought last year. The egg I had for breakfast, however, was in date, by two whole days. One can't be too careful!

I took the rubbish out earlier, and that was the end of today's external aspirations. Today I am listening to podcasts, the glorious Fip, and watching football - all while polishing my lovely huge and posh tallboy ...

Are you sure your mum wanted you eat the sandwiches and not rub them in? Anyway I’m surprised, possibly even disappointed that the forum’s Mr Pennywise doesn’t know that of all of those items the egg is probably the SAFEST to eat after it’s sell by date. They give a huge margin of safety on eggs, thanks to Mrs Egg-wina Currie no doubt. The best way to test is the classic bowl of water. Place your egg in a bowl of cold water. If it sinks it’s fresh. If it sinks but sits in its tip it’s still ok but don’t wait much longer. If it floats, bin it. Repeat with the rest of that box, some might be ok and others not. There, I’ve just saved you pounds in egg wastage. You’re welcome!

Don't go for a walk along the Regent's Canal near London Zoo! That has made me think of a snake related incident but I don't want to make Dawnstar never feel she can go outside ever again so will keep it to myself.

You do know where eggs come from, don't you, peggs? I'm very particular about what I boil my Maris Pipers in! 😉

Don't go for a walk along the Regent's Canal near London Zoo! I never have done but when we walked round Regent's Park between performances at the Open Air Theatre at the end of August we must have gone quite near it. I've also walked over it behind King's Cross a couple of times. I won't be going near it in the future, and I hope the snakes don't come as far away from it as either the OAT or inside King's Cross station! That has made me think of a snake related incident but I don't want to make Dawnstar never feel she can go outside ever again so will keep it to myself. I'm not going out at the moment anyway due to covid so now might be a good time, in the hope I'll might forgotten it by the time life gets back to more normal!

Sounds like you're fine then, I think the ones that were mentioned in that article only live along the canal, should be alright in the Open Air Theatre! I'm not massively keen on snakes but I have contemplated how nice it would be to see one of them there. They aren't dangerous unless you're a small animal so seeing one bathing in the sun while people wander by oblivious would be nice. Not a link for you Dawnstar but if anyone else wonders what snakes I'm on about have a look at this www.jasonsteelwildlifephotography.yolasite.com/aesculapian-snakes.php

Not a link for you Dawnstar but if anyone else wonders what snakes I'm on about have a look at this www.jasonsteelwildlifephotography.yolasite.com/aesculapian-snakes.phpI know logically that they're not dangerous but that doesn't mean I wouldn't be running screaming from one if I saw it sun bathing! I mean, I run away from frogs, let along several feet long snakes. I still remember with horror the only time in my life I've ever been in a reptile house at a zoo - I lasted one tank, which housed a bullfrog that to my childhood eyes looked at least a foot big - and the time I was at a zoo in Germany that had a biodome & suddenly we saw an iguana strolling down the path near us! Talking of iguanas, this news story the other day was amusing to read, from a safe distance www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-northamptonshire-55590072
