I think BurlyBeaR has actually begun learning Welsh, ready for the trip. Oh, my mistake, he's just p***ed again... Cheers Big Ears! 🍻

Not bad today. Scored myself a ticket for Opening Night of Wizard of Oz here in Adelaide. I already had a ticket for the previous night. I'm so far out of the theatre loop that I didn't even know that members of the general public could attend Opening Nights - I stupidly thought that Opening Nights were only attended by celebrities and the like, but once I discovered my error, I got straight on and booked my seat. Can't wait to walk the yellow brick carpet. Just paid my deposit on an Australian adventure from mid-October including 4 nights in Adelaide (and Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne and Perth)....

Bit of a faff leaving Stratford Upon Avon, 9:38 cancelled, now on the 11:55 from Birmingham catching up on Archers omnibus.
The stoic in me appreciating how wonderful Warwickshire looks wrapped in its pristine blanket of Snow.
Much easier to be relaxed when you have nowhere to be, my attitude may have been different if it was yesterday.

As I have been confined in by the snow I have booked our December London trip to include Company and Hamilton. First time seeing Patty and first time for Hamilton. Before that we have Chess and Tina in May and hope to fit in at least another trip inbetween.

I'm getting stressed about tonight. I'm meant to be going to Derby to see a Lucy Worsley talk, but we have snow and Derby has snow (I'm about an hour away). The box office is shut, the theatre isn't replying on social media, so I dunno. I'm keeping things crossed for a cancellation/postponement.

Update: bugger, it's on, but I really can't risk the travel. They're not responding on social media and the box office doesn't open til 6 for returns/resales. I'm sure I'm not the only person who can't get there.

I'm sure I'm not the only person who can't get there. This sort of thing is so annoying, @elanor, as surely it's a situation needing swift information/responses and for which social media is the ideal medium? Some theatres realise this as the Yvonne Arnaud (Guildford) was tweeting on Saturday that performances would go ahead and that those unable to attend should contact the Box Office so the theatre could try to re-sell seats - though this still leaves people in a difficult position if their tickets aren't resold. If worse winters are to be expected in future, theatres and other organisations need to have a clear and publicised policy for this. Obviously they aren't obliged to offer refunds, will give priority to selling their own unsold tickets and may not be able to offer the option to re-book if a production is sold out and/or not spending long at that venue. But patrons need to know in advance where they stand and some of us may choose to change our habits when it comes to advance bookings over the winter months. With some large venues such as the NT, you know you're OK because they will do refunds/exchanges so at worst you pay the admin fee, but with others I'd be wary of spending much on a ticket were I booking weeks - or even months, as is often the case - ahead. Maybe we will have to start paying for insurance when we book, which some systems already offer, though the thought of having to justify a claim is not appealing.

Maybe we will have to start paying for insurance when we book, which some systems already offer, though the thought of having to justify a claim is not appealing. Exactly, it's such a pain. Sheffield theatres had a similar thing with the last lot of snow, when I couldn't get there. They were going ahead (I knew straight away because they updated social media throughout, like Guildford, saying please get in touch if you can't come) and they were lovely when I rang and said I couldn't risk it. They just swapped me to another performance and if I hadn't been able to make it to another performance they would have given me credit to be used within 12 months. Derby were nice about it, but until I said I couldn't risk it because my passenger was disabled, they didn't say anything about alternative arrangements, just that they'd try to resell. After I said why I really didn't want to try getting there they agreed to give me credit but only for a couple of different productions. I am starting to think that insurance is the way to go for situations like this.

They did that for me for Pinocchio too, I asked how much the fee to change it was and they said not to worry which was very kind. I'm guessing you changed your seat within the same price bracket? Or were they being very generous?

I presume the pigeon who deposited his lunch on my new boots already knew that his cousin had just decorated my front bumper. (Yes, I did see him, but I honestly thought his wings worked.) And those were the two best bits of my day. Mess with me at your peril....

I can't seem to shake off the cold. I even listened to "Shake it off" by Taylor Swift but it didn't work. I might try to shake it out with Florence + The Machine.

Just finished watching Isle Of Dogs at the BFI: not a bad little film (although God knows much it cost to make) but not one of Wes Anderson’s better films in my opinion, I can imagine some children liking this but can also imagine a lot parents taking their kids to see this and just thinking ‘WTF?’ after the first few minutes, especially the Japanese bits with no subtitles 😛

Saw Maire Brennan last night( from Clannad for those who don't know). What a class act she was. A stunning voice and so down to earth. In her band were her son and daughter and Cormac de Barra. Met them afterwards and they were lovely.

Came home to find a letter from ATG informing my that my Theatre Card will expire shortly. I think it's adorable that they put "IMPORTANT DOCUMENTS ENCLOSED" on the envelope. Pipe down hun, you're not my mortgage provider...

I have my first night shift tonight after a very long time working during the day. I decided I'm only doing night shifts from now on since I need that extra money, even though my life habits are about to change drastically.

I went out to a pub for dinner. There was a fire there, barely alive. I decided to put my fire-making skills to good use and restore it to health. Half an hour later what I'd achieved was less of a fire and more of a smoke. If I was a caveman and responsible for providing heat then my tribe wouldn't make it through the first winter.
Another half an hour saw my pride salvaged when the fire finally got going, but I'm now in a position where I can set smoke alarms off just by walking past them.
