I understand how business works. You make widgets, you sell widgets. If you cant get the price you want for widgets, you drop the price til your widgets sell or you go bust. Leaving widgets on display unsold that could sell easily at a lower price is not good business. That's not a good comparison, theatres can't survive if they sold everything at super low prices because they'd end up losing money. Market forces dictate. If you choose to operate with dynamic pricing (as the Old Vic does), unsold seats should come down closer to performance time unless OV has set their profit threshold at a marginal percentage of seat sales after which anything else is a bonus. Again, a poor way to run a business. If I've sold 90% of seats at an average of £50 per ticket then I'm happy to sell the last 10% at £50 to increase my margin. If I choose to market the final 10% at above my average price received and fail to sell, when I could have sold it for a smaller profit, then it is bad business.

I noticed this is a new line in it: "My doctor said one day my heart will stop beatin' unless I cut down on that cheesin'" Yup, this line replaced the fried chicken line (which was much funnier) but upset the pc brigade.

Leaving widgets on display unsold that could sell easily at a lower price is not good business. That's not a good comparison, theatres can't survive if they sold everything at super low prices because they'd end up losing money. Here's another comparison if it helps: supermarket sells bags of salad. Salad needs to sell at full price by a particular date. Supermarket finds it has a surplus of salad by said date, so reduces the price to entice last-minute buyers. Supermarket sells more salad at the lower price and clears the surplus rather than keeping it at the higher price and failing to sell it. Basic economics - if you know your market, you know the value of your goods. If you stubbornly hold out at a higher price because you don't want to risk eroding your margin, you actually take a bigger hit by holding an empty premium seat instead of selling cheaper on the "sell by" date and adding additional smaller profit to what you've already banked.

Well out of the 10 times I managed to see this new run the audience last night was probably the best - it was obvious the entire theatre was full of super fans! Extended applause after every song, and a standing ovation that felt like it went on for 10 minutes after everyone left the stage at the end. My tinnitus was going crazy when I was trying to get to sleep last night!
Andy was noticeably emotional during Seeing You which resulted in me having to mop my cheeks when that snow started falling.
I’ve loved having this show back in town and achieved my mission of taking all of the friends and family that I’d promised to take since 2016. I don’t want to tally up how much I’ve spent (glad to have played a significant part in contributing to the box office record! 😂), but it was worth every penny. I genuinely can feel that my mental health has improved over the summer after having spent sharing so many evenings sharing something I adore with the people I care most about. For me, this show is perfect and represents everything I love about theatre.
Was slightly disappointed there wasn’t any announcement at the end, but I’m keeping hopeful they’ll announce a tour or a transfer soon

Thanks for your review - really appreciate it! I was gutted not to make it last night as I'm not in London at the moment, so it was great to get some insights into the last night.

I may have had better evenings at the Theatre in the 40 something years I've been buying tickets, but I hand on heart can't think of any. Yesterday were trips 6 and 7 this run, and I think I saw it 6 times last run; it's such a joyful show for me. Oh my word last night, played to an audience where clearly many had come back for the last night, was superb. As Jamb0r above, prolonged and enthusiastic applause after each song. Loud and rapturous cheers at the end that went on and on. I really hope the cast felt the love. Still feeling emotional - isn't a lovely thing where a piece of theatre touches you and makes a profound impact. It's a comical musical, OK, but it's got such HEART, clever witty lyrics, it's performed so well and by a terrific cast. I will admit to having a few tears through the last few songs too.
Walked out the exit closest to the Stage Door to have a looksee at what was happening and found myself ushered into a queue .. being a Brit I joined it although wasn't sure what for. And the cast that were willing to sign autographs and pose for pics made their way along which was an absolute delight for me. Tanisha Spring (Rita) was absolutely charming and engaged with several people, bless her. Andy Karl - what an absolute star - took time with people and chatted and was such a gent. I'd taken my 2016 programme off the wall in a hope of an autograph, he looked at it and said "are you sure (you want me to sign the front page) - it's so pristine". Like his autograph would somehow cheapen it for me. He was so lovely and I'm so glad I fought shyness to join the queue.
So sad it's gone, so glad I was here/there to see it. Again and again.

I came to terms with my Groundhog grief a week or so ago at my final show but know it will come back so I look forward to the announcement. Wish I had been there but glad to hear such great reviews.

Met Andy Karl many moons ago and he's a top bloke. Tanisha is also so sweet, having private messaged her on socials to say how much I enjoyed her performance. I am so excited to see what else she goes on to do. Lovely hearing from people who were there last night; thanks for sharing. This musical just gets me in the feels every single time.

Had to pic only 7 shows for my short trip, this was on the list of top 10, but eventually didn’t make it. I’m neutral to the film, but love Tim Minchin. Besides your incredible inspirational posts made me wanna see it more if this production cones back.

Finally got to see this last night after several attempts, so glad I finally got there! Fantastic show and great view from down on the front row. I hope this transfers at some point - a tour would be great, but I want to see Andy Karl again and I can only see that happening if it’s a West End transfer. He really is fantastic, and Tanisha had a huge job to do playing opposite someone with such a massive onstage presence, which she did with apparent ease. She matched him easily, and I loved her version of One Day. I think the fried chicken line was changed because a black actor now plays that role and there’s a certain stereotype. Back on Broadway it was Michael Fatica (lovely bloke, former Newsie) and he’s white, so it wasn’t quite the same.

Well this is exciting!
I am flying home to Australia at the beginning of February next year for 6 weeks and although I will primarily be in Sydney, I will be flying to Melbourne with my mother for a family wedding.
Despite seeing this twice- once the first time round and once the second time round, this will be on my list of things to do!

I’m curious to see who will play Phil Connors! (obviously there are brilliant actors in the world who can!)
I use this as an example; Mark Rylance and Jerusalem- can’t imagine anyone else play that role. I just don’t think AK would return to this a third time 🥹 but who knows, I’m not the casting director!
Glad this show is out there in the world ❤️ One of my highlights of 2023.

Reasonably sure that Andy is going to Australia for this - don't think anything is signed yet but certainly the intention

Just been listening to the full Melbourne press conference. Tim mentions that it is the Old Vic production that is being sailed over in 8 sea containers and that it will be in Melbourne only for that season before heading back to what might be a West End transfer (again depending on theatre availability).

I wonder where it could go in London because there's not many theatre available which could house it.

I wonder where it could go in London because there's not many theatre available which could house it. It's not that complex in its 2023 version, surely..? Most decent sized houses could take it I'd have thought.

The Old Vic has far too many other projects in the pipeline - this isn't going to be going back there I'm afraid - certainly not in the immediate future anyway.
