I am expecting this to come over, along with Waitress.
We know that the Piccalilly will be vacated by January, the Olivers didn't do anything to help Half A Sixpence or The Girls.
Can also see the delightful musical Come From Away making it over.

Waitress is top of the list for Producers wanting to bri g it over currently, but I imagine Groundhog Day sin't far behind considering it was such a hit here. I don't imagine Come From Away will come here for a little while yet.

Same will probably be said for a lot of other new shows wanting to come into town.

Indeed, we might see something happen like it did in New York where it was: 2015-2016: Weak season + Hamilton 2016-2017: Amazing season full of new musicals

^I think you're a year out, but I do hope so (although tbh Young Frankenstein/Pinocchio should be good!)

Aaah yes! This year in New York is pretty amazing. Groundhog day has a lot more competition across there and probably wont even get a best musical nomination.

I'd be surprised if it doesn't get nominated along with Natasha/Great Comet, Dear Evan Hansen and Come From Away. If they have a fifth slot then there's a few contenders for that. Word of mouth now seems very good after the early preview egotists had had their say (a group of people we thankfully have little of here).

I'd rather see Anastasia get the fourth nomination but I'd be happy for there to be five again and for Groundhog Day to get in too, as I do think it has its merits.

I think Anastasia's success might not by so hindered on a Tony. The brand has relative popularity with 30-somethings who remember an love the movie (me!) and will fare very well with girls and parents who take young girls to the theatre. I think Groundhog might fare better with its two leads getting nominations than the actual show, which is not picking up unfortunately. I'm really surprised by how it hasn't soared, considering how the film version is so beloved in the US.
I think Christy could possibly get a nomination, and so will costumes and maybe set. Maybe Mary Beth Peil will also get a supporting nod.

Yeah, Hope grows on you as a track. Very well staged too.
I'm curious about where this may end up back in London. Minchin revealed that's the intention (and it makes good sense), but where would it go..?

Having seen the mess that is Anastasia last week it is nowhere near the standard and success of Groundhog Day. Glad to see Andy is just doing 4 shows this week and taking it easy.

Thanks, snutte. I personally did not bother addressing this because it's futile..while I make no pretense that Anastasia is the answer to the Broadway musical, and certainly think Groundhog Day is by far a "better show", Anastasia is certainly selling better.

Anastasia hasn't opened yet. Plus I'm talking creatively and theatrically not about how many dollars it has made so far without having any reviews yet. It's common sense why that would be selling better as millions adored the movie musical and "Journey To The Past" is a belter loved by so many. I rushed to book a flight and ticket for Anastasia and Hello Dolly I wouldn't have for Groundhog Day despite it being a popular film. That said, I think GD is a better show than both of them. I know you dislike me being negative about Anastasia (I really wish I wasn't) - but wait until you see it yourselves guys. There is lots wrong with it when Groundhog Day in comparison is a solid and impressive piece of theatre.

I actually do not disagree with you, and can rate Groundhog Day over Anastasia any day without having seen the latter yet. The thing is, there is no pretense about Anastasia not being this great breakthrough in musical theatre. It's a stage adaptation based on a children's animated movie- with questionable changes, and some run of the mill new songs that pale to the original score. I'm simply talking in terms of success- Anastasia is doing better, and will probably do quite well despite the reviews.

Full Cast Recording is now on Spotify. I must say, its actually really strange hearing it, as the Old Vic production is suddenly flooding back all of a sudden, like everything! This needs to come back!

Just realised from the recording's digital booklet that Sonia Friedman Productions are one of the 20ish secondary producers (not sure if that's the right term as I rarely see that many producers for London or UK productions!) - which is surprising seeing as she and Scott Rudin were meant to be involved with the Old Vic new musicals programme (which I'm guessing Rudin may not be now!) - so I wonder if she would be a main producer for when it comes back? In that case I'm assuming it would be likely to go to an ATG venue.

Sonia is the queen of shadiness in London at the moment, I wouldn't be at all surprised if she threw some money their way as soon as the reviews came out without any other producer putting money in!

It's a lot more expensive to put on a show on Broadway hence the army of secondary producers, I assume Sonia Friedman and Nederlander are more investors than actual producers since the names above the title are Whistle Pig, Columbia Live Stage and The Dodgers, Whistle Pig and Columbia Live Stage produced the show at the Old Vic and The Dodgers were involved in the Broadway production of Matilda so it's no surprise they're involved with Groundhog Day Not all of Sonia Friedman's shows go to ATG venues, The Ferryman is going to the Gielgud for example but I assume ATG gets preference if one of their venues is available.
