Don't quote me...but you can quote Tim Minchin. At exactly 12.32 this afternoon, he announced to the nation, via Claudia Winkleman and Radio 2, that Groundhog Day would indeed be returning, initially for a limited run, about a year from now.

It will be revived at the Old Vic as their Xmas show, and as a farewell to Warchus who will step down around then.
Glad to hear it, absolutely loved this show and it needs a further life.

I’m absolutely dreading this.
I’ve spent the years since I saw it both in London and on Broadway banging on about how amazing it was to countless family and friends. Most of the time I also promised to take them to see if if it ever returns. Looks like I’m going to end up in my own very real Groundhog Day situation by being there every night. My poor wallet.

As much as I dislike the Old Vic in general, wondering how they defend their artistic approach to playing more and more revivals of their own productions.

It's a real shame they didn't transfer the show into the West End at the end of the original run. There was momentum and fantastic word of mouth. That said, I can't wait to see it again.

Great news. Had a great time seeing this during previews in New York. Will be fun to see it closer to home! Wonder who will be cast...

I am excited to see this again too but 100% agree with the above. Hopefully there's a cult audience for it and people who may not have known it before.

If they do bring GD back, I wonder if it will be rewritten at all? I'm a huge fan of the movie and was really excited to see the stage interpretation, but was very disappointed.
I found Andy Karl completely unlikeable and the level of opportunistic letchery from his character seemed to have been massively amped up from the movie to quite a distasteful level, in my opinion. Not sure how that stuff will play several years down the line with a slightly changed world on that front.
Apart from the final number which I still listen to, I thought the music was pretty unmemorable (the number with Phil resuscitating the homeless man on a revolve with the widowed insurance salesman on the other side of the revolve was the nadir for me).
Also it wasn't nearly as funny as I expected it to be which was a surprise given the original writer of the film had a hand in the script.
Rushing it over to Broadway after just a few weeks in London seemed like a crazy idea but given the credentials of the creative team (and the subsequent raves from most of the UK press), I guess everyone thought it would be big a hit. I hope if/when it reopens here there will be a revised version on offer.

I'm another that loved it, saw it multiple times to admire the clever staging and new music.

So pleased. This was one of the best new musicals of recent years (albeit based on a cast iron story, so a fair part of the work was already done). It really deserved a proper West End run.

Having spent the last week watching this on repeat on a very unreliable online streaming service, I can honestly say it’s up there as one of my faves. I’m a hug Minchin fan anyway, since 2010, and this is some of his best work.
I cannot wait for this to come back. Are there any rumours yet about where it might go?

I thought I heard it was going back into the Old Vic at Christmas? Not sure if that was confirmed.
I saw this twice whilst it was on at the Old Vic before, once on the first preview that turned into the final dress rehearsal, and once further into the run and absolutely loved it. So much more than Matilda. Some really great songs and original staging.
I’ve always been so sad it didn’t come back to the West End after Broadway so I’m thrilled that it’s going to be coming back, even if it’s only briefly.

I think there was an interview a few months ago that said it would be returning over the summer?

I will be booking tickets for this as soon as they are released. Had a great time seeing this in New York! I wonder if Andy Karl would come back into it. Michael Xavier could work.
