I agree BurlyBeaR. It’s lovely to begin to see her cheeky/naughty side whereas most people probably only think of her as Paul Daniels’s sidekick/assistant.

Does anyone else sing along to the theme tune, shimmying and pretending to play the bongos?
We do.
This is going to be another great series!

The McFadden guy from Eastenders, no idea who that is and he was very bland in all the pre recorded bits. But actually, doing that jive, I thought he was very likeable and quite sexy, probably because he looked like a normal bloke doing a jive really well. Not sure if that will be enough going forward, we’ll see. I think what’s clear from that opener is that Debbie McGee is totally up for it. And she has a young, exciting partner who will hopefully exploit that. I saw a clip on YouTube of her talking about her husband’s final days and it broke my heart. She clearly adored him. I love that she’s in the limelight now and I hope she goes far. The McFadden guy is from either Holby or Casualty, amd Davood in the mesh shirt is from Eastenders. I used a have Joe McFadden on my wall, but only as part of a poster for Rent that i had framed. He was a very good Mark. As someone who has been in numerous shows, i was expecting him to be better.

Well, this time next week we'll know who's the first to have been voted off.
Pesronally (based on last night's performances) I reckon it'll be a toss between Ruth and The Reverend and as much as I like him (he's my favourite) Simon Rimmer in third spot. Could also be Brian Connely.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, if previous years are anything to go by, it's a young person's game and I'm backing either Aston Merriweather to win, closely followed by Alexandra Burke

I think simon will be first out. I do too. Sunday Brunch has a bit of a cult following though, so we’ll see if that translates into votes. If not, Ruth or Brian which is a shame because I like them both.

Simon and Ruth in particular may have decent sized fanbases which could be an issue for Brian. Personally given how many different shows he has done over the years, I hoped he would have been better. The Paul McCartney hair colouring didn't look good either.
Rev Rich won't be very good but could be this year's novelty act and stay in a good length.
Debbie was a trained dancer and performed on big TV shows with Paul Daniels so the setting won't phase her and with a young hot guy, I bet she'll have a lot of fun, no real pressure on her either.
Nadiya is very hot and will be a firm male favourite.

We've a looong way to go yet so anything is possible and, as much as I agree with you anthony that it's always been a young person's game, I reckon Debbie could give the younguns a run for their money.
Apart from the dancing, so much on Strictly depends on how the celeb's (and their pro's to some extent) personality comes across as the series progresses. They've got to strike the right balance- commitment, skill, performance, not to mention a 'story' and/or a 'journey' BUT without seeming to take it all too seriously. I reckon it's time one of the older generation took the glitterball.
Deb-bie! Deb-bie! Deb-bie!

Caught up yesterday (meaning I could skip through some of the crap!). I loved Calman and the Vicar, no neither of them are great but they fall into the category of 'genuinely going to do to their best and try' while being 'comedy' so I love them. Also for their genuine love of dance/the show.
Thought McFaddyn was great, as was Davood and I hope that one or both of them gives Aston a run for his money- he's good but I feel like he thinks it'll be an easy ride to the top spots for him. Sunday Brunch fella at least had a laugh about himself on Sunday Brunch this week and Brian Conley bless him was giving it a good go.
Kizzi was great and I think she'll do really well in the Latin- and genuinely I think will be a good dancer as well as having that great personality. And well done Debbie McGee she's throwing herself into it and by the looks of it has some talent so go her!
Loved Shirley as a judge- great constructive comments from her.

Yes, loved Debbie McGee - it would be marvellous for an older contestant to win for a change!
However, she did go to a dance school at the age of 7, and at the age of 16 won a place at the Royal Ballet School and subsequently worked for the Iranian National Ballet as a soloist. She subsequently earned her living as a dancer in Summer shows and pantomimes (where she met Paul Daniels) and was a member of Dougie Squires Second Generation dance troupe. So, she has earned her living as a dancer and ballet training sets you up for all the other dance disciplines. Nothing against this of course, but nothing mentioned of this by the BBC who just bill her as a radio broadcaster (who knew?) and the assistant of the late magician Paul Daniels. Of all the contestants she probably has the most dance experience and expertise!

I've still yet to catch up on this weeks so but I thought I'd throw in my thoughts on (Debbie's) previous dance training anyway. I've found that over the past few series there's been at least one contestant who has had some form of previous dance training (usually as a child) before they've joined the show and the BBC have never mentioned it in any way. I feel like the public then find out about it from some other media and decide that contestant isn't worthy of their vote as they've danced before? Which I feel is a shame because although yes they've got experience dancing they've never danced the dances or choreography that's they been told/given on the show. Yes, in an ideal world everyone would start of with the same level of experience but realistically I feel it's never going to happen. At least it means there's usually at least one 'celebrity' who is worth watching for the first couple of weeks until the others find the groove of it all

I thought they mentioned she had been a ballet dancer in the launch show.
Doesn't bother me 15 terrible celebs would not make for a fun show and her age might insulate her against some of the ringer accusations. After all there's quite a few celebs there who have been in musical theatre, she's hardly the only questionable one.

I didn't know that about Debbie! actually makes me like her even more- good for her in coming back to it after so long/taking on a different dance challenge. It doesn't bother me so much that the BBC selectively edit (after all we can all Google and find out) but it does bother me when the Celebs themselves spend the whole time doing an 'aw shucks I got no dance background' routine when in fact they have several years of dance training or experience. (Ahem Jay McGuinness)

I think Denise Van Outen gets the most criticism on that front because she outright denied it. If you don’t say anything I don’t mind particularly. The one I think is most likely to get that criticism this year is Aston.

Oi! Leave Debbie alone!
If you're going to pick her out, at least drag Alexandra Burke into it. She's hardly a newcomer to dance. She also clearly knows how to play the reality TV game better than Debbie too.
Anyhoo, this year is all about The Peacock.

I highly doubt you’re the right age haha. Anyway, that’s a relief, I didn’t want a Theatre Board episode of Jeremy Kyle. Come on Jonnie!

I highly doubt you’re the right age haha. You'd be surprised. My photo doesn't give away the reality. It's a combination of amazing lighting, fabulous cheekbones and an astonishing amount of work at the hands of Jane Fonda's surgeon involving (amongst other things) a couple of bulldog clips and a bungee jump off the Clifton Suspension Bridge.

Well, I just don't know what to make of this year's lot as I can't warm to any of them and actually have to leave the room when Susan is on - and that's saying something as Kevin is one of my favourite pros.
I did like some of them - Debbie was amazing, as was Aston - I love Janette (awful dress this week) and am always amazed at how much she trusts her partners. Alexandra and gorgeous Gorka were stunning. Jonnie was good, but I saw him interviewed with Oti in the week and I don't think they get on all that well. And how on earth did they make the beautiful, stunning Oti look like a man in drag? The girls' hair was a mess in general from Chizzy's wig slipping to Janette looking like the wild woman of Borneo to Karen having long bits hanging in her face.
Charlotte lucked out on the dress but, for reasons best known to herself, stood still in it. Mollie comes across as full of herself and Richard's so bad he's not even funny. Tess's trousers were too long and her whole outfit looked badly stitched.
I like the partnership of Brian and Amy and also Debbie and Giovanni. There seems to be a lot of love and respect.
I'm finding the standard well below that of the past 2 years and really struggling to find anyone to get behind as yet. I'm even going to read the spoilers for the first time ever as I really don't care. They didn't show the leader board for long enough, but my guess is Simon out first, though I really really hope it's Susan.

We're sitting right next to each other on the comfy sofa costume and hair wise, Miss Tibby. But I'm loving Susan, and I'm finding Brian a bit too Cor Blimey for my likin'. But at least he's got ridda the oringe 'air. So thassa start. I agree that Simon will be out first: a combination of choice of song this week (I'd love for someone... anyone... to explain why a Rodgers and Hammerstein song set in Maine, USA should have any connection at all with Liverpool, England... ) and eye-catchingly bad trousers last week.
