Ever since the last one, the country has been crying out for yet another production of The Cherry Orchard. The translation looks like a right (Rory) Mullarkey!!

Well at least it's not more of the blooming bard! Plus aren't they doing one of Maxine Peake's own plays? That's what would interest me and possibly necessitate another trip to Manchester.

Not very exciting , not much that I’m going to rush to see . Maybe Frankenstein, but Cherry Orchard and Happy Days? Disappointing .

Couldn't agree with you more about long-dead Bill! If you wanted to see Maxine Peake's new play, showgirl, then you should have arranged a trip to Hull to catch The Last Testament of Lillian Bilocca.

I'm mildly curious about how they'll do 'Happy Days' in the round - maybe put the mound of sand on a revolve? - but I don't think I'll be rushing to book a season ticket.

I did read about it with interest, TallPaul, but a trip to Hull (great place as it is and one I'd like to revisit) isn't feasible now and besides, I hope that idc both Last Testament and the Manchester play will find their way further south, as Beryl eventually did. I did read that one is a co-production with the Victoria in Newcastle-Under-Lyme, so there's hope.

Maxine can also be found working in the box office when it’s busy and selling ices at the interval.

I saw The Cherry Orchard yesterday. I feel a bit... meh. The cast were all good. But it all felt very clever and worthy and I just didn't care very much. I read a synopsis on the train home about the symbolism and meaning and everything, and felt a bit *oh* that none of that had come across to me while watching it.

Maxine Peake posters on the back of the toilet doors, which was nice.

I saw The Cherry Orchard yesterday. I probably saw the same performance (matinee?), and really enjoyed it, I found it fresh and lively, though being a matinee and Chekhov the audience were a bit greyer than the usual RX audience. You should have stayed for RashDash's Three Sisters at the RX's Studio, £6.50 for the preview and just brilliant!

I'm not very impressed with the above season. Are they trying to play things as safe as possible. Here is what the season consists of Queen Margaret Death Of A Salesman(Don Warrington) Mothet Courage & Her Children The Mysteries The Producers

Will most probably catch the following
- Queen Margaret
- Death of a Salesman
- Mother Courage and her Children
Relatively safe plays, Queen Margaret is an interesting choice, not sure how many Henry VI fans there are and her role in Richard III is primarily cursing and skulking, it will be good to catch up with Willy Loman again.

I was going to say there's LOADS of Henry VI fans, but I think that says more about my friends than about Shakespeare fandom generally.
Can't believe you all buried the lede that Jade Anouka will be playing Margaret though, I thought we were a theatre discussion site...

The casting of Jade Anouka is what piques my interest along with obviously being a fan of Henry VI, coincidentally will be seeing Jade in The Phlebotomist at Hampstead tomorrow afternoon.

The Queen Margaret plays sounds interesting and i might get a cheaper ticket for Salesmen but think i will pass on the rest.

The idea of The Mysteries by Chris Thorpe and Sam Pritchard also looks intriguing, with a clear reference to the medieval plays but, in actuality, a contemporary cycle. This looks like one of those announcements that looks safe on the surface but how and, with whom, it's done will make a world of difference.
