They have now taken the balcony off sale at the Palace Theatre, during the current booking period for Tammy Faye. It's roughly now 1350 seats Do you mean the upper balcony? I am surprised they ever had those seats open to sale as they have rarely been used. LA CAGE was the only show I know of to open that section once it was a hot ticket and they sold the seats for $10.

Unless it's changed it's name over the years, the Palace only has the Orchestra, Mezzanine and Balcony, no upper balcony. $10 seems quite alot for the balcony in 1984.
I still think it's the wrong theatre for the show. If they want to sell those 1350ish seats each night, they better get on the promotional circuit soon, it opens for previews in 2 months time! Hoping for a full cast announcement soon.

Hoping for a full cast announcement soon. You are correct. It has a large mezzanine and a balcony which is smaller. It was the balcony that was usually not sold and yes, $10 sounds like a lot for back then but, given that LA CAGE was a hot ticket, they probably had little trouble selling them. I agree that I hope we start seeing the marketing campaign getting into gear and yes, a full cast announcement would be nice....I would imagine rehearsals begin first week of September so hopefully we will see something soon. I also had qualms about the theatre size but would imagine we will see a much bigger show than what we saw on the small Almeida stage....and hopefully a slightly larger cast - Lord knows, there is room for one.

Such a shame this isn’t selling better. It’s such a great show. IMHO way better than the slew of generic music new musicals over there that don’t seem to remotely struggle to sell!
Hopefully advertising and exposure will result in an uptick soon.
They had so much momentum here I still find it extraordinary they didn’t go West End instead.
It’s like Groundhog Day all over again!

Take heart in the fact that in the past 20 some odd years, few Broadway shows have much of an advance built up prior to opening. The model changed after 9/11 and hasn't changed all that much, especially post-pandemic where people still aren't sure if the show they booked in advance for will be on that night (cancellations due to illness are still pretty common). And as ticket prices have gone through the roof, more folks are waiting to see what kind of offers might be available rather than booking straightaway. Yes, there are exceptions for shows that have a huge name attached as those are often limited engagements, but again, huge advances are not as common as they once were.I am kind of glad they didn't go straight into the West End and took time to revise and redevelop the show. It had a LOT going for it but could have used more time in the lab, especially if it has American audiences in mind who are likely more familiar with the PTL saga than others abroad. Anyone 45 and over will no doubt remember the scandal as it was headline news for quite some time as well as fodder for SNL. I think we will likely see a cast announcement quite soon and a marketing plan kicking into high gear as the show gets nearer to previews.

The website says 2hrs 10, including interval. It was nearly 2hr 45 at the Almeida. Thats a huge difference.

It seems ridiculous that they would even post a running time when the show hasn't even started rehearsals. So many variables will affect the eventual running time including scenes/songs that get added/cut during both the rehearsal and preview process. Anyone reading that should take it with a very large grain of salt.

I have tickets for the 1pm performance on the 13/11. That performance was removed from the booking pages and i contacted Broadway Direct to ask if it was cancelled and they said no. I then asked if i could buy another ticket for that performance, but they said no more tickets were currently available to buy. I have absolutely no idea what's going on there. They said they will be in contact.
It's the day before opening night, so maybe they're cutting the matinee and only doing the 7pm show to save the cast's voices, who know?

That's a possibility and it is likely the show when the critic's are in as well - but very strange. Let us know what happens.

They have very kindly offered me a refund, despite still not knowing if the performance is going ahead or not, as it's not officially cancelled.
I see they now have an alternate Tammy Faye. Autumn Hurlbert, who I only remember as coming second in the Legally Blonde reality competition. No performance schedule for her yet. Did Rachel Tucker do any Sunset shows before opening night?
It is cast pretty much the same way the Almeida production was. Whoever it was that wanted a more grounded portrayal of Billy Graham, I think you're going to be disappointed. Mark Evans is very similar to Peter Caulfield, in my opinion anyway.

The new number written for the Broadway production is called 'Don't Shine A Light'
No idea where it goes in the show or who sings it. I would imagine it will go in Act 2 as that needed the most work.

Very curious. There were Insta posts this week of the cast in the recording studio saying 'something big was coming' but can't imagine they would already be doing a cast recording. Promo tracks perhaps?

Any recordings of Andrew in the show will be collectors items soon lol I saw an interview with the video designer and he was saying something like that. from the brief clips shown from rehearsal, it looks like the same set they had at the Almeida. But on a bigger scale.
If they were doing promo tracks, I'd put out the ones recorded at Abbey Road and just have Borle and Ceveris record their parts.

Yes, saw that interview as well but it appears there is a surprise as he mentioned he 'didn't want to give anything away' which indicated something beyond what we have already seen/what is out there in terms of how the projections are presented. I am a bit surprised that none of the 5 tracks recorded at Abbey Road have been used for promotion as the score by Elton is a major selling point. In any event, it thrills me to see the occasional rehearsal photos and bits of news that keep whetting my appetite. :-)

If this is an accurate design, which was shown to the cast on the first rehearsal, it will be on a massive scale compared to the Almeida, where they had neither the budget or the space to do it, but then it wasnt needed there in that space.

Quite curious and yes, it appears it will be similar in concept only a LOT larger.
Only a little more than 3 weeks til the first preview. :-)

Kinda surprised this is the first song they're officially putting out there - the big end of Act 1 number 'Empty Hands' It's being released on 7th October.

Interesting that it’s going to be so different from the Almeida. I don’t know why but I wasn’t expecting different songs but I can’t wait for empty hands to be released. I hope this does well on Broadway because I’m going to NYC in January specifically to see this and my work schedule prevents me from being there earlier. I’m seeing other things while I’m there but this is the primary reason for the trip.

Do we know which songs have been cut for the new numbers?
I do wish they'd released an OLC of the Almeida version!

It needed a lot of new songs (particularly in Act 2)

As far as i know there is only 1 new song, some new choreography and new projections on a much larger scale.
I don't think the songs were bad in Act 2, apart from Run This Show. I think the book needed more work than the songs did.

So this performance still isn't cancelled and it's still not taking any new bookings. It's so odd. After going back and forth with Broadway Direct, they offered to refund me the ticket, but instead got a new ticket for the night before on the 12/11. I think i'll try and go again before I leave on the 16/11. I'll be getting that ticket when i'm there as i suspect it won't be hard to get, looking how booking currently is.
I'm seeing Tammy Faye, Sunset, Oh Mary!, possibly Little Shop, though not sure about Sherie Renee Scott as Audrey... possibly Swept Away and Death Becomes Her, but OTT campymusicals aren't usually my thing.
