I'd say she'll be great, but it must be a very strange experience taking over the lead role for only one show a week.

"And now, Mr Lloyd, I'm ready for my costume!"
Thanks goodness that after 2 hours exertion in a black nightie, Nicole had something comfy in her holdall to slip into for the aftershow.

Yeah, a bit of a generalisation that - have they actually read the thread?

Phew for you Chernjam. What with 'Aspects' doubts, and now 'Sunset Boulevard' likely to play beyond London, your credit card and passport have been in and out with more vigour than Bob Fosse doing the Hokey Cokey. Cheaper too. Happy days! : )

Any chance you can copy and paste the review? It's behind a paywall and I don't want a subscription... Good to see more positive coverage for this fantastic production. It's interesting as a couple of us thought critics would be divided between 2 stars and 5 stars, but the majority are very positive.

I know Jamie Lloyd is a marmite director but I like he's willing to do something different. This wouldn't have got good reviews had it just been a recreation of the original production.

It always works!

Totally agree chernjam! Really happy to see these reviews. My only very slight caveat is that even in the raves (for the production) it’s almost as if it would kill them to fully rave about the score itself! It’s more “damning with faint praise” for what IMHO is easily one of ALW’s most cohesive and iconic scores. Currently orchestrated to within an inch of its life! Plus ça change I guess. But overall - very happy for them to have 4 and 5 star reviews to plaster over the poster/theatre.

Agreed - such a shame most reviewers forgot to mention how incredible the orchestra sound, and how the overture in particular just soars.

Happy to hold my hands up and say I’m massively biased. But I’ve never heard Sunset sound so good. And it already sounded amazing before!

I must admit, these rave reviews might send ticket prices north - despite seeing it five times already with two more booked in, this show feels like one I could just revisit over and over again.

As someone who has seen a bunch of Andrew Lloyd Webber musicals and not liked a single one of them, is this worth the treck to London to see? Will this be the one I like?

ALW has been praising Nicole since she performed Phantom in 2011. It's not news, I dont think he's misquoted.

ALW has been praising Nicole since she performed Phantom in 2011. It's not news, I dont think he's misquoted. He’s been saying X (attractive) female lead in his new musical is the best talent in the world for his entire career. It’s called the ALW cycle; “Show is best version ever, how I always envisioned it. Cast is perfect, how I always intended, this version is definitive. X (female lead) is a/ is going to be a superstar (if talent show) and the future of musical theatre”. Then: the show flops/succeeds but eventually closes. And all goes quiet. His superstar new plaything is old hat and Lloyd Webber is bored. We usually never see or hear from them again with Lloyd Webber shows and they don’t become superstars. Then: show is revived. The walk back begins and the recriminations/criticisms of prior production(s) are brutal in the usual interview rounds as he promotes this brilliant new version, which is the REAL version he always planned… Oh and guess what? He’s found this incredible new talent who is going to be a superstar and is the best singer in the world, and plays the part how we always imagined… in his new revival which is how we always wanted the piece to be done Repeat for the last 40+ years.
