‘No costumes?’ ‘All in your mind’ I was excited, now I’m terrified. Nicole doesn’t really sound like she’s exploring the character, so much that shes been told some things by her friend Jamie and shes just going to do that…in her one costume. Yeah, I have to say, having heard her interview, I have now tailored my expectations for October! That said, his Cyrano was stripped back and I absolutely loved it. If they’ve stripped it back it’s gonna need some cracking acting to sell it. Tom Francis will be fine. I’m sure Nicole could chew the scenery but there is light & shade in Norma not just a total monster.

Maybe the trick is to watch it with your eyes closed so you can hear the lovely orchestra without seeing what's happening on the stage.

There’s a ticket for sale on the Noticeboard.

I remain open-minded, but still a bit skeptical on this one. Although if you aren't going to go for a massive set, having your stage design swing far in the other direction might be the best call.

Does the sitzprobe usually take place 2 weeks out? I always thought it was last week of rehearsals?
Gotta admit, being very shrewd not leaking anything of Nicole singing yet to build anticipation. Here's hoping for a full recording and not just a highlights or covers of the big songs

I’ve been wondering about a new cast recording as well. I’m still legitimately shocked ALW didn’t shell out the cash for a Bad Cinderella cast recording, since there were so many changes from the album that was released.

Here's hoping for a full recording and not just a highlights or covers of the big songs Budget dependent. In opera and ballet it’s usually a week, including the biggest houses in the world. It’s more unusual, truth be told, to publicly acknowledge a sitz for - quoting Max Bialystock - a “frivolous musical”. Many West End shows open with the cast hearing the pit band/“orchestra” for the first time at the final dress.

Yes, these days it depends more on if they’re doing a ‘making of’ film to show it off. 🙄

Nicole is not returning to Masked Singer next year which starts filming beginning January, same time Sunset is planned to close. Could Sunset possibly extend in the West End? I thought the theatre already had a commitment right after the closing date?

I imagine NS will go off on her usual 53 holidays before she goes to Chicago for Death Becomes her in the summer

It wouldn't surprise me though if broadway is an aim. She wants her shot at a tony. If it's well received here, a new york transfer in the spring wouldn't be a shock.

With such a minimal production, I assume it would only take a few weeks to get a transfer up and running.

She’s doing Death Becomes Her on Broadway too- that means she won’t be doing Sunset there

She’s doing Death Becomes Her on Broadway too- that means she won’t be doing Sunset there Death is coming to Broadway fall 2024 so perhaps there is time for a quick transfer. The Chicago/Pre-Broadway production is starting April but I'm hearing that Nicole is not going to be in that.

A big new show wouldn't announce a "star"name, then have them play no part in the initial production where all the character development is done, and then parachute them in for Broadway following tracks someone else has done all the work on. Ridiculous idea.

Every West End show I’ve worked has included a sitzprobe. Usually in a very awkward foyer space or bar in the theatre…!

Ridiculous idea. What? Nicole has done workshops of the show.. is doing Chicago and Broadway. Or was your comment aimed at someone else?

I'm agreeing with you and disagreeing with the person who thought she wasn't going to do the out of town tryout and therefore would be able to bring Sunset to New York. (A show that hasn't even begun previews, so nobody knows if she'll give a praiseworthy performance or not. )
