Having just looked at the exclusive seats page on the production's website, the logic behind who is eligible is bizarre. 'If your age makes you eligible (ie. you are under 30), you will need to attend with people who are also under 30 and also have valid ID. If you are a key worker or receiving government benefits, your companion will not need to show any ID of their own'. So if I (28) book the tickets, I can only take a companion who is also under thirty...but not my 62 year old KEY WORKER mum. If she books however, anyone can come with her? Am I reading this right? It seems very odd that a key worker cannot accompany a 30 year old if they're above 30, given that they are otherwise eligible to book a ticket on their own. I know what you mean, but I'd say you could bring your mum if she can prove key worker status.

Also it’s unfortunate but most under 30s are not really interested in revivals of ALW musicals. I’m 22 and absolutely love Sunset so would have paid full price no problem, but most of my theatre friends around my age are just into Heathers and Waitress and whatever other modern stuff Broadway is churning out, but for £20 they may go to this and maybe they’ll love it and then maybe ALW’s more obscure shows won’t die out with the next generation. Just some thoughts. Excellent point. The youngest generations deserve to see more musicals that don´t fall into the "modern" category. Just so they love it too, and want to keep them alive in the future. With some shows having cheaper alternatives, this should have them too. To those who insensitively label this as "discrimination", please do buy full priced tickets. I do, and plenty of them. It's why I hold the view that I do.

What also intrigues me is that given how this looks to be selling generally, how will anyone other than Jamie LLoyd Company and ATG know how many seats get put into this offer? It wouldn't surprise me if they end up offering more to ensure full houses...

It wouldn't surprise me if they end up offering more to ensure full houses... This isn’t a new scheme though. Jamie Lloyd has had this on all his productions I can remember going back nearly 10 years. It’s always been done as a gesture to encourage younger audiences to theatre, like in his Pinter season which probably wouldn’t have appealed to a younger ‘Netflix’ generation if not for the ‘names’ in them. In the past they’ve also always been good seats too rather than the back of the grand circle some producers do, as the idea is that if it works in attracting younger audiences it’s better they have a good seat / experience in the hope they may fall in love with theatre in a new way. Theatre tends to be primarily viewed as an Elitist at this level, more so with plays perhaps but I think it’s an attempt at trying to make it more accessible to some? I’m sure it will be coupled with some sort of day seat / lottery that means lower priced options are available to everyone? Although I did always wonder if Jamie Lloyd had sparse sets so he could save some costs to be able to do the scheme? 🤣 I’m sure producers like ATG don’t like it. I can see how the key worker definition (or lack of) could also be problematic though. I wonder if there is an element of honesty policy in effect?

My son is a NHS employee, my daughter a teacher so if I understand correctly either of them can book two tickets and take me. As both will be working Friday morning I hope I can book on one of their behalfs in their name. I might be allowed to make the booking myself as long as one of the eligibles accompanies me.
Only interested because the stalls front row will be included and presumably not otherwise available. That's a shame because from my conversations in the theatres the majority of people in the front row are like me and keen to sit right at the front.
I wonder if this is a deal that will actually attract huge interest and sell out immediately ? £25 or thereabouts Rush tickets have been around for years and Savoy Theatre shows are usually available with decent seats.

Is there any confirmation some of the 5,000 tickets will be stalls front row (B presumably)?
C is the closest row to have been on general public sale so far…

C is the closest row to have been on general public sale so far… Yes, I think it must be on the press release as the inclusion of the front row is specifically mentioned on the WhatsOnStage website. I know someone who works part time in a village Post Office / General Store. They continued that job throughout the pandemic as a key worker in food sales so should be eligible for this but has no specific ID for that job.

So is someone just saying “I work at a convenience store” going to be enough?

I am probably wrong - but could we, possibly, just allow people and their own consciences to decide whether they are a keyworker and deserve to go for these tickets?
(Bit idealist I suppose - but just thought I'd put it out there!)
Anyway, as I've said before main pricing for Sunset is in line with other West End musicals so this initiative can only be a good thing in my opinion. And does bring the overall average price down. Whatever the motivation it's good.

I work with food.
My wife is a senior teacher.
We both worked through all of Covid.
Does this entitle us to cheap theatre?

Why all the snark about this scheme? It’s enabling people to see it for cheaper.. I don’t get the problem here.

I was genuinely asking the question. Both ‘key workers’, does it qualify us or do we both have to do the same thing? It isn’t even particularly pricey…

Funnily enough I am a key worker but I'm already booked. But I could always book again to see Rachel Tucker.

Because there’s a limited number of tickets in the scheme and the deal is good enough for some people to decide to be dishonest. We used to have a member here who openly admitted buying concession tickets “because we all know FOH don’t ever check”. Some people are just like that unfortunately.

If there are no checks in place to stop being being dishonest- then how silly of the producers.

It’s a simple economics question for me. Their income to repay investors and hopefully turn profit has to come from somewhere; ie tickets. If a percentage of the house’s income is lost each night through initiatives, that loss is recovered in other ways. Specifically, in this case, through higher ticket prices, where the price is upwardly adjusted to finance the initiatives.
As they don’t have sponsors paying for the discounted seats (examples: wealthy patrons/sponsors at smaller venues, global sponsors at larger ones like ENO, government subsidies) the money has to come from somewhere to pay for those seats.
Not making a point for or against, just saying that for every discount/initiative there are ways of trying to claw back the difference. It’s not a criticism, just an observation of the most basic principles of business.

I certainly don’t want hipsters who run a food van to benefit from this offer. It should just be for teachers and nurses etc- and that would be easy to show iD I’d have thought.

Ushers should be trained in a simple 'sniff test' when it comes to patrons claiming lower wages due to working with food.
Chip fat and fried onions - "Enjoy the show".
Red Wine jus, mushroom foam, & raspberry coulis - "No cut price Schezza for you sunbeam".

Interesting comment someone made about them essentially just using this offer as a smokescreen to sell seats when it’s not booking brilliantly.
