I was a little concerned by the 3.5hr run time but glad to say that I loved this production! Powerhouse performances from all 4 actors made the time fly. There was a lot I forgot about the play and rediscovering it made me appreciate it on a much deeper level. To get to see Elizabeth McGovern and Dougray Scott duke it out in such an intimate space is something I won’t forget. The drama very much sears through you and the effect is scintillating. Each act is quite distinct from each other and the intervals come much needed after witnessing the bitter battles of what’s just taken place before. I sense there’ll be future life for this production beyond Bath but if you get a chance to see this in the Ustinov Studio, I highly recommend hopping down and experiencing first hand the power of theatre. Saw today's matinee..my god this was superb! I don't think I can add much more to what to what oracle has said..I really enjoyed the staunton production at the pinter a few years back..but this went up a few notches further.. absolute knock out 10/10

I didn't particularly enjoy this. They crammed about 30 years worth of history into this show, which means there are a lot of things to cover, but somehow they don't seem to cover anything at all. This is very much almost a sung through musical with barely any dialogue, however, the songs don't really advance the plot or say anything, so you don't really get any story telling (which is probably why it feels like time is passing but nothing is happening). It was also a bit rogue for the writing team to start the story just before Mandela gets imprisoned and finish it as he gets out, meaning all we really see Mandela do all musical is sit in jail. I don't know if they were going down the route of naming the show 'Mandela', but actually wanting to tell the story more of Winnie Mandela (a la Hamilton) and his various children instead? The songs themselves felt very samey and I would have categorised the songs as the 'fighting fire with fire' song, the close harmony acapella type songs and the Warden's song and everything else was some kind of reprise of that. I had the understudy for Mandela on and he was fine, but I didn't really feel like I was getting very much from him. In general, the South African accents could do with some work. I'm glad I did get to see the full version rather than a concert version of the show because my favourite part of the show was the choreography. I thought that was fantastic. Certainly got choreography in the concert version Saturday eve..

Tim Minchin has confirmed that they are having to make some changes to the material due to getting rid of the 5 revolves. It’s a shame we’re losing that staging as it was incredibly impressive. Sad but had a feeling that was coming.. may I ask where we can hear/read the comments..

I'm really hoping we get some solid lead cast members. We were so blessed with Amy Ross on the last tour! Don't think I've seen her since...whats she up to.

Unfortunately due to multiple cast illness, the venue have to cancel both the matinee and evening performance of “From Here To Eternity” today. Shame as I got a nice seat via the daily TKTS. Hoping the exchange will be similarly good. Just got off the train from Salisbury grrrrr..

I am sure I read that the filming was the dress rehearsal that day not the ticketed event in the evening.

Not seen anything much written about Blackout Songs yet, but I thought this was seriously good. Slightly surprised to find myself thinking that it was possibly the most enjoyable play out of the 30 or so I have seen so far this year. The two leads, Alex Austin and Rebecca Humphries, were just superb in conveying this disrupted, destructive and misremembered love affair. At times incredibly funny and at others quietly heartbreaking. A small queue after the show buying playtexts suggests I was not alone in enjoying the show. Couldn't agree more.. number 139 for me and its easily in my top 20...Cracker of a play...

I really like the new finale song, I'm interested to see how they stage it. Feels more suited to a movie than the When I Grow Up reprise as much as I love that song. It completely caught me off-guard when I saw the film, and it's done beautifully and made me weep - a great addition Yes...its brilliant..Its so good I'd personally love to see it put into the stage show...

Matthew Warchus said in the q & a that it was live singing..Also said there was 19 weeks of dance rehearsals which is unheard of for a film...

Enjoyed the Lyric Hammersmith production that then transferred to the Garrick, it's a great show so i'll always pop and see it when its in london! It's pretty much on a par with the hammersmith version..Joseph Millson was the star of the show for me..

Out of interest, does Katie have a lot of costume changes and does she pull off the iconic Tammy look? Yes..and the look you refer to only the last 20 nmins..

It went down a storm this eve...whole cast worked their socks off. Had us rocking in the alises. Its bright.. brash..sassy and camp..just the right amount of humour and tragedy. Some catchy gospel vibe tunes but a song at the end called "IF you came to see me cry" was a cut above everything else for me..the 2 leads will get nominations for their performances. Defo west end transfer..Praise the Lord!!

That makes me think they might have filmed Loud and then decided to cut it out later rather than it being the plan from the start to not use it. Just out of a screening and we had a live q and a with cast and writers etc afters and yes there is a much longer cut which included Loud...

Pretty sure the pub Sam went into was "The coal hole" on the strand just along from the Savoy...The jazz bar restaurant scene looked like Smith & Wollensky a bit further down but not quite so certain about that..

Booked for this.. stage set up seems to have a number of seats (central and wings) on the other side of the stage... Are you a super duper member? I was tempted to become as I can’t face attempting to book when public tickets go on sale Bronze!

Yes it was filmed this Tuesday 14th. As I was checking for returns online this annoying pop up kept appearing, saying that it would be filmed etc. Also, there were no day seats for that day Where did the footage for the ntl trailer come from as that's been doing the rounds for a few weeks now..maybe they have filmed more than once...or just got some specific footage needed...?
