Saw the show tonight. Curtain call was a few lines of "there will be sun" Tim in the crowd tonight....

Firmly in the "loved it" camp. For me the songs (or the tunes at least) weren't especially memorable, but the lyrics are frequently funny and witty. It's not that the tunes themselves are boring or annoying, just not particularly earwormy! I'd definitley say I liked the songs, I just couldn't sing you one a day later. Having said that, I would definitely like to hear them again, particularly to hear more of the lines I missed on a first listen. The show is frequently very funny, and manages to have a lot of fun with itself without undermining the sweet and emotional climax. Of course the original concept is fantastic and I was ultimately pleased that I haven't seen the film since the 90s as a lot of the ideas hit me afresh where a better knowledge of the film might lessen the surprise and impact. And the staging is inventive and clever - very much a theatrical staging rather than an attempt to recreate a film. The whole cast work their socks off with plenty of them creating memorable townsfolk characters without much in the way of lines or song, but it really is ultimately Andy Karl's show. Perfect casting in terms of look, voice and comic timing, the audience lap up his charismatic d*ckishness and yet he doesn't turn into a boring sap when he starts to learn the error of his ways. I really hope this gets the audience (and transfer) it deserves. I felt the same on my first veiwing re the songs. But on the second vist. The songs just felt so much more as id heard then before...Its a wonderful production...

Saw the show a second time pm today. Brilliant! I enjoyed it even more than last sats matinee which was a belter. Sound clarity improved. A tad slicker I feel. The audience lapped every moment up. Standing ovation. No curtain call music apart from the usual hoe down stuff. I do feel the curtain call needs to be padded out as it all finishes a bit fast. We have spent all this time going through this adventure with the cast, it would be nice to be able to show our apprecitation to the players etc. Too rushed. The music was great, there are some great tunes there. The more you know them, the better they get. This really is a gem of a show. I hope to see it a final and third time... 9/10 J

I assume it's the Broadway filming with Chad Kimball and Montego Glover, which has already been released years ago - even on Bluray. My Bluray Player plays the Bluray without problems, but I've only ever watched it once because of Chad Kimball's Huey - creepy springs to my mind. On the other hand: if it featured Adam Pascal... Correct..i was only talking about new releases...

Having quite liked this, I was wondering about Matilda, which I've never seen as I avoid like the plague anything about/aimed at/likely to attract children. Hence I'd never heard any of Tim Minchin's work before. So, accepting that an adults-only performance is unlikely, do those who have seen both think the score of Matilda merits a trip, please? Most definately. Matilda is not what I would call a kids show. In fact it is quite dark in places. Quite edgy. Thats what makes it stand out.Dark themes mixed with the innocence of childhood.. On a personal note I saw Ground hog yesterday pm. Sat in monkeys famous q34 seat. 5 mins before showtime a guy sat next to me. I said to him not worry if I lean over occasionly due to the slim post to the extreme right of my viewing angle. He said would you like to sit in my seat? I said are you sure? He said sure ive seen the show many times. Then I clicked. You work here dont you? He said yes.He was the deputy production manager of the vic. Chatted to him alot about the production etc. Pleased to get an unrestricted view for my £21.00 Personaly I loved the show and hope to go again. The stage set was amazing and I dont think I have seen so much going into a production and so much hard work from the cast to keep the quite frankly frenetic pace going. I have watched the film many times so knew the jokes etc. I really felt swept into the groundhog world. Sound was great. I didnt warm to Carlyss Peer sadly but didnt hate her either. So for me chemistry was lacking between the leads. Georgina Hagen looks a future star whom played Nancy. Lovely voice. This will not be loved by everyone. Its modern and sassy. Theatre for a new age, a bit marmite. But I know a lot more people that love marmite than dont. So...strap yourself in and take a ride with Phil Connors..You might just suprise yourself..Its a gem... 8/10

Lol...you guys...I am going next sat. Not sure if im going to like it or hate it. Each post so hot and cold...Kinda think ill like it tbh.... See ya there! I feel poised to like it but I'm getting the sense it isn't the groundbreaking musicals I'd hoped it would be. I remain a constant fan of Tim Minchin's work which I think is only an advantage going into this. Will be at the matinee...

allow us a little more time to polish the technical aspects of the show. That's a shame. Also, maybe, a euphemism. They should never have staged the show during Groundhog mating season. Half the cast are on Tindr, the other half on toptable.com. No wonder they couldn't get them working every afternoon... Going next sat matinee phew. But i suppose they could still cancel...think they would of done so in this announcement...
