A13/14 and A35/36 are available online at £31.75 each for tonight - I can't remember the last time I saw unsold day seats online, and it's a surprise given that tonight is press night!

I know Marisha was on holiday last week, is Karen off this week? As Marisha is doing all the alternate shows this week: Nope, Marisha always does them all, Karen only goes on when both Amber and Marisha are off Simply not true. They both have scheduled Effie performances, Marisha just has more.

Most theatres will have a minimum age that they will permit anyone into the auditorium (kids shows are different), e.g. ATG is 5+, some others will be 3+...some shows will have age guidances, I think Billy Elliot was 10+...as for unaccompanied children, as has been echoed earlier by others, your best bet will be to check with the theatre. Sure, if they look 16 and are well behaved they probably wouldn't be questioned, but if they were refused entry, you'd probably be denied a refund on the grounds of it being in the T&Cs.

To follow on from what deej4life said about the tour lighting during DG, I especially loved how they shone a light at Elphaba from a side angle, which gave a "silhouette against the full moon" sort of effect on the side stage wall. Super effective and a nice touch only really noticed by people sat at the extreme edges.

I think it's Defying Gravity as a song that makes the end of Act I so powerful, much more so than the flying itself. Mary Poppins' flight, and the flying sequences in Qdos' various pantomimes - in my opinion - trump Elphaba's flight by some margin.

Same for "Cats" at the New London. Why? What was wrong with the original format? I never saw it but I imagine it's something to do with the revolving auditorium? There was apparently a sign that said "latecomers will not be admitted whilst the auditorium is in motion"

With miming playing, I'd guess you'd just tune the instrument down so no sound comes from it. Does the Beautiful orchestra feature a Grand Piano, as it would take up a lot of space in the pit but if sound was recreated on upright piano/electric piano/keyboard then a knowledgeable person could tell the difference but this could be masked by the other instruments. It's an electric keyboard in the pit. Given that the sound would be pumped through the PA even if the piano on stage was live, and the quality of sound programmed to keyboards these days, I don't think you can tell the difference! I'm a pianist and I certainly can't

Does anybody know what the dayseat queue is like on different days of the week, during different seasons, and knows approximately what time to arrive to have a good chance of tickets? Have a look at @theatremonkey's website...he is the fountain of knowledge for all things day seat related.

For me, vocally it's Amber hands down. I can't recall any other time when somebody's vocal performance left me physically shaking. Ever. Yet that's how I was at the interval. That said, she may as well have been singing the songs at a concert, there wasn't really a great deal of acting for me.
Marisha, however, is an equally amazing vocalist. I don't think her voice is as strong and clear as Amber's, but she has different qualities. She has a much more raw tone, and she brings a lot more emotion to the part. Her acting is streets ahead too.
When I saw Amber, I was watching Amber Riley sing Dreamgirls. When I saw Marisha, I was watching Effie White.

What were you hoping to book at Richmond/Wimbledon/Woking? I've seen plenty of members offers for all 3! Intrigued and baffled by this, daniel, as I'm definitely on the email list for all ATG venues of interest to me but not only have I heard almost nothing from any of them this year apart from the usual "Book now" nudges; I've also found no deals when actively checking the website, e.g. by searching different dates and times just to see if the price varied - it didn't. If the only "concession" to members is lack of booking fee - which is no less than members would expect - I begin to doubt the value of being a member. I can't recall offhand all the productions which tempted me but one was The Wipers Times at Richmond, as I missed this in the West End and can't do the Guildford dates. So if you know of any offers, please do tell! in fairness showgirl I don't seem to get any offers via email either, I tend to just happen across them when looking. Wipers Times appears to be pretty rammed, but perhaps in general we're just looking at different shows!

Not surprisingly I think there is an upsurge when a production is about to close, as I was hoping to catch Our Ladies in its final week but all the cheap deals had disappeared; however, I've certainly booked for almost nothing at my usual ATG venues this year (Richmond mainly, but sometimes Wimbledon and even Woking), solely due to - as I understand it from others here - their new policy of not offering members' discounts or deals. What were you hoping to book at Richmond/Wimbledon/Woking? I've seen plenty of members offers for all 3!

I too was hoping that the workshops may lead to a fully-staged arena-style event, however I'm hearing that the Kenwright version is going out on tour again next year, which will put a stop to any arena show I reckon

He's not returning to Shrek. And no panto plans either. :-) The last tour stop of his current contract is Sunderland. At this point it looks like he will not return in 2018 (but that could change). Oh I seeee, I now realise that Sunderland is the end of the autumn run anyway

Tour started this week in Guildford, and still no information on cast! I know that Danny Taylor is back as Sammy which is fantastic, and of course Sean Jones is still giving a Mickey, other than that no idea! Dean Chisnall is playing the Narrator until early December. And as far as I know Lyn Paul and Mark Hutchinson have stayed on. Thanks for that Steffi. If Dean is leaving early-December (assuming that that is before the tour ends) then I take it he will be returning to Shrek which opens for the Christmas season. That or panto!

I read somewhere that even though Jessie knew she would mime the piano, she still chose to learn how to play to get the hand movements down properly. I heard the same but for Katie - she does actually play the piano in real life anyway, so I reckon that it's perfectly plausible that she learnt all the songs, or the hand/finger positions and movements at the very least.

After the excitement of Aaron being announced/leaked, this "wait for the others" gap is mystifying long. They are leaving us hanging. Again. There doesn't seem to be much of a buzz about it at all. Hope they prove us wrong. Yeah it is a very long wait, wonder why they couldn't release all casting news back then ? What benefit is there of waiting ? It might not be finalised yet - or (probably more likely) they never intended to have announced anything yet but after the leak, in true Wicked style they rushed out an announcement.

Rumor within theatreland is that the show is going to close sometime in 2018 as the producers don't want it to burn out and then it will head out on tour. The tour rumours are true. I believe that the general belief is that it will close, as you said, though I don't think it's definite as to when just yet.

Thank you Daniel, will give it a go.
Thanks Used your code to see Dream Girls last week. This app could be dangerous for my wallet. Just booked to see Apologia tonight and then tomorrow will hopefully see an American in Paris (was hoping to see it earlier in the week, but then got a cold over the weekend !). So you should have your tenner now Thanks so much anthony, indeed I do have it saving up to use in New York next May!

You must admit, the current batch of stalker-esque tween "superfans" do provide this board with a lot of its amusing content, would we have a Jackie Hughes nutella in-joke without them? oh without a shadow of a doubt. We'd be nothing without their endless supply of stalkery enthusiasm.

Current claim "THE BAND is now the fastest selling musical theatre tour of all time" from a promo email just received.. hmmm I got that too...pretty sure Lion King probably takes that crown. Or something like Joseph starring Philip Schofield back in the day.
