Not quite a full standing ovation yesterday. I only stood up to put on my coat and escape as quickly as possible from this overlong, overwritten, self-indulgent, turgid, smug waste of a day. I saw the two show day yesterday. I was worried about the length going in, especially the length of the intervals from a purely ablutions POV but I needn't have worried in that regard. Act 1 took a bit of time to settle into, but once this marathon settled in I was drawn in for virtually the whole 7 hours. The end of act 1 was very powerful indeed as was the closing on a act 3. The only weak point was probably Miss Redgrave. It was nice to see her on stage, but when compared to the other strong performances you've seen for the past 6 hours she is not on that level anymore. Saying that though she did improve the longer she was on stage, and she did have a long monologue, which is commendable anyone remembering a lot of lines in one go let alone someone who's 81 with a clear fragility to them now. I'm so glad I took a chance on this play and I hope once it opens next week it gets the great reviews it deserves. Full standing ovation at the end rightly earned. It would have gotten two if the cast had bowed after part 1. Oh well, the majority enjoyed it even if you didn't.

There's 5 songs on the Brisol Old Vic soundcloud, was the CD just those or more? The BOV recording was a live show recording, but missed out the first few songs. It's sort of like they forgot to press record at the start. I listened again to it recently and it niggles me that is isn't complete.

Obviously I'm blinkered from having seen it in the original setting where it worked fine (no take in Bristol)

{Spoiler - click to view} Do they still have that ridiculous ending with the two cast members awkwardly clambering over the stalls?
Somewhat ruined the moment when they have to get the entire row to stand up to let them get back to the stage... I don't think it's ridiculous at all. It puts a memorable end to the show as they head off to a new life being watched by everyone on stage. I did see it in Bristol though and there because the auditorium is small they could reach the back quite easily and no one would have to stand to let them back out. But I wouldn't be annoyed at having to stand because I'd have just been awed by the brilliant show.

What's the most cost-effective way of seeing this? They're meant to sell "day seats" if you show up at the theatre at 10 am. However, it's at the discretion of the Box Office, so you may either be very lucky or... not. Depending on your budget, you may still be able to find something with the London Theatre New Year Sale - formerly known as Get Into London Theatre. It looks as though they still have plenty of seats, but of course the ones at 20£ may not be quite the best in the house. I got a day seat on Saturday at about 12:15pm. I'd already checked the availability on the Nimax website and noted a few nice single seats going and lo and behold I got one of them. So if you are a single and they have them then they'll sell them to you. If you are a pair on a busy day they may be more reluctant to.

It draws you in if you let it - no-one is forcing you to join the merchandise queue or to buy anything at all. I left with a programme because I collect them, but that didn't require queuing and even then I could have chosen not to buy it. What you choose to spend your money on is your choice, but if you're willing to pay the prices being charged then I don't see the point in complaining about them! I never once complained about the prices.

I went in for a magnet and left with a programme, pin badge, magnet, keyring and shot glass. Why do I need a shot glass? My days of necking shots at home are long behind me. But it draws you in.
Had they had any gold mugs left I'd have probably got one of those too.

Nabbed myself a dayseat. Row H, brilliant view, so no complaints so far. Stalls are packed, and it sounds like the other levels are busy too so I'm delighted with the seat I nabbed (it pays to be single sometimes). I was in Row H at the matinee today too! Loved the show, even with the shocking legroom (but then I am a giant). Hope you enjoyed it 😁 Loved it. Brilliant view from the seat too.

If you're end of row, or very close to an exit, especially in the stalls, the route out of the theatre can be very fast. I was on the last row of stalls, had only 2 people to get past, and I was out of the theatre less than 60 seconds after the final bow. Because the entrance to the Victoria tube station is just a 1 minute walk from the theatre (I used the new Cardinal Place entrance), from curtain down at just after 5.15pm, I was in Euston station just after 5.30pm. I was lucky that a train pulled in just as I was walking onto the platform, so that sped up my transfer time. I guess it depends what time the last train is for you. I wouldn't risk a train time less than 45 minutes after curtain down, if you have to cross London to get to the mainline station, just to allow for the night time tube timetable, which are less frequent than during peak periods. if you're in the upper levels, or stuck in the middle of a row, you'll spend a great deal longer getting out of the theatre. Hotel it is then! We’re Royal Circle for this trip (end of row though) and it would be the last train so not worth the risk. I'm doing this journey on Saturday. Booked on the last train out of Paddington back to Bristol, but expecting it'll be absolutely fine as there's over an hour between curtain down and train.

I think people would be more accepting of reviews if they were not written in such a visually irritating way.
You didn't like the show, fair enough, but enough people did in Bristol for it to gain a transfer and hopefully people who see it in London will too as it's different and it's so refreshing to see something out of the norm opening.

In all the hype and discussion over Hamilton, this show also had it's West End opening this week. Has anyone gone yet? I'm looking forward to seeing it at the start of January after it being my top show of 2016 at the Bristol Old Vic.

Been sent an email from DM offering any seat at any performance for £10. Can't make it to London to see it, but if I could I wouldn't pass that up. Who or what is DM? Or is it a secret known only to the initiated? Delfont Mackintosh

Seeing this tonight. Lost out on the YF lottery and saw most of the front row was still available on the ATG website. Something spooky in the run up to Halloween

Loved this in Bristol, so really looking forward to seeing it again.

Watched Season 1 pretty quickly when it came out and loved it. But I just couldn't take to Season 2 and gave up halfway through.

West End Transfer . I am a huge Springsteen fan but have only seen him in huge stadium tours so I would have loved to see him in a more intimate setting. I'd love a Springsteen musical.

I saw this last night and loved it. I have nothing to compare it to, so I can't comment on who did it better in the past.
While the time didn't fly by, I wasn't longing for an interval after an hour and when I did check my watch I was amazed at how much time had passed.
Loved seeing both Mrs Henderson's on stage and it made me wonder how Janie would have played the role had she not dropped out of that show.
I think I've been spoilt by Imelda as Rose and so any musical role now won't hit me as much.
On a side note, I spent a lot of the show convinced I recognised Young Buddy, to then discover I'd seen Fred as Collins in Rent years ago when he was at Bristol Uni. I was amazed by his talent back then so it's great to see him land a huge part in this.

Expected it to be a horrific booking experience because I'm currently on a coach, on my phone, with questionable internet access.
However I got row B for the Saturday preview, even with a password change required meaning I had to shut my internet page down, but thankfully tickets remained in my basket.
Phew.

So if Amber was off for some time, now she's back on, I wonder what will happen with her holidays that are scheduled from this Friday. I would imagine she'd take them. It's a week break so I assume she's booked to go away somewhere

Just got a 19.50 in circle for matinee. Clearly been reduced at some point. I hope it's not because Audra isn't on. Either way, cheap matinee sorted. They're struggling to sell tickets by all accounts so that's probably the reason why. The evening everything was still top price, so happy with what I got. The upper and balcony were shut this afternoon.

So I won a ticket for this evening, however due to Lady Day starting late I subsequently lost it. But because I have two phones and automatically lost on my second phone they offered me cheap seats as a 'thanks for entering'. So now I'm row G stalls.
I wonder who my Effie will be.
