Sorry but please could we stop attacking those unable to wear masks - this hasn't been heard about before because we haven't had to do so before this. Yes there are people who are just saying it but spare a thought for those who have been through personal trauma that leaves them unable to cope with something over their mouth, those with autism who find it hard enough to go into a supermarket without the additional stress it may cause, those who suffer anxiety and find the masks bring on a panic attack. Not everyone is lying about it, I struggle with a mask for any real length of time and am lucky enough to be able to wear the visor for longer periods so have real empathy for those who simply can't cope. The biggest problem is that all the idiots who refuse to wear one from choice are causing real problems for the genuine cases out there.

I love this show and am really hoping that as a two hander with minimal props it will get a chance to be one of the first shows back when theatres open. The costs involved would be lower than pretty much any other musical so even with social distancing it should break even in the right theatre

Maybe it's being cast with those most likely to have been vaccinated! That said I had no interest in this until now - Felicity however just might get me there. I have no idea who MM is, never heard of her before this to be honest

I know this is off the original topic but the one really good thing Madonna did when I saw 'Up For Grabs' was the opposite of the play's title. The performance that I saw I came out glad to have seen it, not rating her acting but being impressed that when she was on stage but in the background she stayed completely still and never attempted to take attention from the other actors in the foreground. Most of the audience were there to see Madonna and all she would have had to do was move her head to get that attention - many a 'better' actor has been unable to have the grace to do that in a variety of productions that I've seen!
Do I think she can act Norma? No but then I'm not the one getting to cast it, who knows what will happen - if it ever does happen.

One thing I have not seen discussed is the impact of vaccinating people who have confirmed positive tests. Do these people need vaccinations? Are people catching it more than once? If they are does the vaccine effectiveness similarly diminish over time? as the antibodies will be similar or the same. Could it be simpler and quicker to provide ant-body tests for those who have had COVID to confirm the presence of the anti-bodies and remove them from the population needing vaccination. A friend of mine has just tested positive for the second time - she had it last April and now again

I'm unsure on the word heroes as many staff have been transferred to work on Covid from normal roles without consultation, a friend of mine only started working for the NHS November 2019 and is not a trained nurse in any way. She was moved to work in the Covid testing unit in March 'for 8 weeks' and is still there conducting tests all day every day - including Christmas Day - when her initial contract was Monday-Friday. As far as I'm concerned she's a hero, she could have refused or looked for other work but has worked some insane hours, is exhausted and was also officially homeless for the most part of it. She would far rather have had help from the council to get somewhere to live than a lot of people standing clapping though!

Just received a letter from a lovely friend - the first proper letter of 2021 - letting me know that she's ok, how she's filling her time and filled with optimism about the year ahead and the hope that we can meet up again soon. Not only is it lovely to receive letters rather than emails but one with no negativity at all is bliss right now - and she celebrated her 90th birthday last May!

I would love a tour of 'Mame' - saw it in Salisbury with Tracie Bennett and Harriet Thorpe and the words that sprang to mind as I was leaving the theatre were joyous and delightful, something I think everyone could do with right now (apparently that production doesn't have West End rights so would have to be a tour)

Gosh, imagine always having space around you, no tall person's head in front of you and everyone having a great time. No more funny looks at restaurants when you ask for a table for one and people envying you being on your own - I'm not sure the world id ready for that but I sure am!

It needs to be across the board - if theatres close so should non essential shops, nail bars and so on. Either non essentials close or they don't not just some of them - I had my hair cut last week which I do as rarely as possible as I hate it but it was a small place, inside a shopping mall with no fresh air circulating and people in there for a fair period of time. Why is that safe to remain open as opposed to a theatre or football stadium? Yes, there are more people but the football stadium is open air so in that sense better than the hairdressers. I just feel there needs to be a better look at what is TRULY essential and what has become so in the entitled world we live in. Equally it seems to be defeating it's own purpose if crowds are shopping, at school, travelling to work and so on and then being allowed to gather in small, unventilated homes for five days just to ensure maximum incubation.

It might reduce numbers but better that than have the PR issue of some adverse reactions on the way home leading to major problems and fewer people having it due to fear

My Dad's one of those, as far as he's concerned if he doesn't know the number he doesn't need to speak to them. Doesn't he check his voice mail, though? I may not answer, but if even an unknown number leaves a message, I'll listen to it. (I get a lot of "We've been notified you've recently been in an accident...", but those are easy to delete.) If a message said "You've been exposed to COVID", I'd certainly call them back! No because he has to pay every time he checks them, he barely uses his mobile so it's pay as you go and living on just state pension every penny counts

The part that I found not even slightly surprising is 70% of calls going unanswered. Most people I know use only mobile phones now, and won't pick up for a number that they don't recognise. Same here - also many older people don't check voicemails as they have mobiles for essential use thus have to pay to check them. My Dad's one of those, as far as he's concerned if he doesn't know the number he doesn't need to speak to them. All the years of unwanted scams and selling cold calls has resulted in a culture of us all blocking unknown numbers - those companies need to accept that part of the problem now is their fault

I do wish that people using Twitter would wait until official announcements and give the staff, performers, backstage and FOH, a chance to be told in a better way. We all love the gossip and scoops on new shows etc but a bit of sensitivity before tweeting would be kind in these times

Theatres will have to wait for the official announcement before emailing the public - plus I would hope they have spent the time contacting all the staff involved first and foremost. I'm so glad I made it there on Saturday, if there were a single seat for tomorrow I'd grab it!

The saddest part of it is that theatres have worked so hard to be safe - I felt far safer in the Palladium than in my local supermarket, as for the local high street once was enough.

My theory is that of the several vaccines that are going to be out there one of them will be fine, I'll just be careful to check first. On the plus side Dad will have it first so I can take my cue from him as our reactions are very similar!

I will now have to check whether or not I should have the vaccine as they are saying that those who experience serious allergic reactions should not have the Pfizer/BioNTech one after two NHS staff reacted badly. Let's hope one of the others works well for those this one doesn't as both my Dad and I suffer from bad reactions - put in this way dental sedation has me out cold for three days!
I do think there would be a greater take up if it were available in tablet/liquid form as well as a jab, many people with needlephobia may struggle to force themselves into it.

Have posted the Christmas cards, bought all the presents, spent socially distanced time in the park with friends, spoken to several other friends, still have Palladium Panto tickets - and to top it all off I've still got my job and am not being made redundant, happiness is mine right now

That's what I've been told is happening, think it's the easiest way for them according to the friend who emailed me about all the hassle. Fingers crossed they're wrong and you still get to go

Has he truly just cancelled all the cheaper tickets in the upper circle? What a dick move. Same at the Palladium - so all those who have less money lose out, theatre elitist - never! That's tongue in cheek though as if doing that means it's the only way things can affordably go ahead it's better than all those involved losing work

They've closed off the Grand Circle so basically anyone who couldn't afford higher prices doesn't get to go sadly.

Depending on what dates in December is it worth holding on and seeing whether tiers change in two weeks time? Either London going up or where you are coming down could solve the problem for you

With so many UK performers out of work why bring someone over from the US, surely we have enough leading ladies in the UK?!

Everyone will have their own ideas as to what Christmas means to them and yes, one missed Christmas isn't a major deal for most people. That said I'm in a bubble with parents and brother (he still lives there) as I'm single - my Dad's cousin is due to spend it with us, thus making two households. He's alone as his wife died three years ago next week, they had no kids, his brother and family live in Denmark - it will be a very lonely time for him if he can't drive over to join us. We'll follow whatever the rules are and have been doing so throughout but I do worry for his mental health especially as he's still grieving for his wife.

Could we just cast Bonnie Langford as Reno and Clare Halse as Hope - and add a dance number for the two of them please! As much I want to see them together again. Having Bonnie as Reno might be a a bit of a stretch! What 20 year old stockbroker goes around hanging with a 50 year old night club singer Well Bonnie's a year younger than Jane McDonald so would still be slightly closer to the young guy's age!

The only problem with the £5 test would be what happens if you can't get one on that day - I would happily pay the £5 through the theatre as part of my ticket price if they were to have some available, with an agreement that if you test positive your ticket is moved to another date, you pay another £5 for the test on the new date. That could well be too complicated though and I'd hate to put any extra burden on theatres who have enough of a struggle to open up at the moment anyway

I would but only once it has been proven to work and once I know what the possible side effects could be - as someone with many allergies (including penicillin and ibuprofen) I have quite severe reactions to most medication so am a little wary until more is known about it.
