I was also there. I should announce myself next time. I was probably the cause of an empty seat as I failed to find a plus one.
I have mixed feelings about this. I enjoyed it, I would probably see it again but there just isn't a story high stakes enough around the peak Estefan tunes. I couldn't help but compare it to Tina and the portrayal of Emilio as this shadowy figure behind Miami Sound Machine, behind Gloria and as Gloria implies the man behind her bus accident was odd. He isn't a bad man so why was he presented as this sinister figure (he even seems to come out of the bus accident unscathed) at the end where Coming out of the Darkness is sung; it seems to be more about Emilio than anyone else.
Gloria has had her ups and downs but the truth is she doesn't have the career and reputation beyond people of a certain again. I am 31 and I just don't have that connection with her or her music but this musical is really well done, looking at the Cuban diasphora, the music, the hostility to the Latin community and ultimately Gloria and Emilio have a lovely relationship. Even the troubles with Big Gloria don't dent that. It just needs a bit more conflict to be a true great but it is frothy and fun enough for UK audiences

I was so far away (TT Stalls) and my eyesight is dreadful so I don't think that helped my enjoyment. I mean Renee and Dove could have been the same woman for all I knew.

Suspicious of Shenton's review until I remember he liked Promises Promises based on some characters looking like him.

I found this so dull. The score sounds nice but the songs are not distinguishable. I just didn't care about the characters and the RFH is such an unsuitable venue. More suited to presenting scores than presenting musicals. I left at the interval because I just didn't care which is a shame because I like Alex Jennings and the performances were charming. I love Florence too.

That is an awful thought and I tell myself the sorts of people who would attack people at those sorts of events aren't cultured or clever enough to know about those sorts of events.

I am from Southampton and deeply ashamed. Southampton isn't a backward city and hopefully, a few bad eggs won't put touring companies off.

I was there as well. Did you catch the group berating staff in the foyer becasue they'd turned up expecting to see the play (for £7) .. honestly! Sam Mendes got praise heaped high by all concerned. They were giving away tickets on certain audience sites so wondering if the group came from there

I really enjoyed this. After a slow start I was mesmerized. Great performances, great to see a work by a woman of colour that looks at race but isn't dominated by it. Such amazing casting as well. I got how they all ended up in that position as working-class peopleand the pre-Bush era setting felt like a bold choice but was perfect. The mill seemed like such an opportunity because it was the only opportunity they had. When it is taken away you feel the emptiness

Coolio, going to this in three weeks as double header with DBS. Plenty has been on my list for ages. Agree about the casting. Very underwhelmed by 8 Hotels casting announcement last week. Hadnt heard if anyone! Yes, when Rory Kinnear's partner is the most famous it is rather poor. I just don't think Chichester can guarantee the names, it is lovely but for most actors it means staying in the area because Southern are awful and does it even pay that well?

The flipped seats are great. When I took my partner to the Bridge we had end of row seats. He looked horrified when someone pulled out a seat in the row in the front and desperately checked his end of row seat to ensure he didn't lose his privilege position.

The producer who runs it is lovely but it just doesn't have that kind of relationship with an audience to see people flock whatever the show. It needs a hit and it needs people to trust it as a producer again.

I don't get it. Even if they were extremely cheap/comp tix one couple couldn't even wait for the interval to leave. I got the impression when I saw them picking up their tickets that they didn't come to the theatre much, which makes their behaviour even odder.
We were in the dress circle so I wonder if it was a view thing or they were expecting a bigger production.

So put me in the disappointed camp. Really great performances but it is a very predictable story so if you aren't scared there is no twist to keep you there.
Saw quite a lot of walk outs too, which makes me wonder what they were expecting.

This was definitely a play and a half (although length-wise it is literally just one half)! What a corker! Very ASMR but shan’t say any more. VERY VERY spoilery question ONLY for those that have seen it... was the whole thing a plan between Anna & Elena/Robert to get revenge on Max? How did Anna know that Max was going to implicate himself on tape? What made her throw her marriage under the bus like that? Need to see it again...! I really like that ASMR is going mainstream. I remember telling some people at a party about it and they thought it was f***ing weird...

I really liked this, interesting use of technology and it was spine chilling without being scary. Phoebe Fox is mesmerising and I hope she gets the sort of accolades her husband Kyle Soller has been getting. 'Anna' sees her reunite with Michael Gould after A View from the Bridge and this is another interesting period piece about 1968 East Germany and the haunting that WWII had over the generation that was children/adolescents during the war but now finds themselves in a different draconian society. It is a lovely piece from Ella Hickson, working just well in the quieter smaller scenes as well as the larger party scenes. It is only an hour, which is great for getting home at a sensible time and the technology is so key to this piece that it has to work and if that means £15-35 a ticket then so be it. It wouldn't be the play it is without the audio. A nice experiment and it will be interesting to see where this technology heads next.

Full Company announced. Nothing interesting to add to the previously announced casting except Matthew Pidgeon is in it. Matthew also happens to be Mamet's brother in law. Joining the previously announced John Malkovich as Barney Fein, Doon Mackichan as Sondra and Ioanna Kimbrook as Yung Kim Li are: Alexander Arnold as Roberto, Teddy Kempner as Doctor Wald, Matthew Pidgeon as The Writer and Zephryn Taitte as Charles Arthur Brown

Love is...I am working on the Janson press night so my partner, who hates writing but also hates paying for things, is reviewing for the blog. He likes Kelsey, he used to see Lyndhurst in the Co-Op he used to work in on the south coast. I am looking forward to hearing about it, at least Cassidy Janson can act and sing... What was the verdict? Not until Tuesday. All will be revealed as soon as he gets the post to me.

The prices are quite vile as well but at least there is a lottery for £10-£25 but no details of when that will take place.
My partner said it will attract City of London style wankers but I also wonder how long the fetish for 'immersive' can continue. I am seeing expensive shows with long runs offering free or heavily discounted tickets. Even Secret Cinema James Bond still has a lot of tickets to shift and not the sell out it once was.

I hadn't seen this before but I thought the casting of a black family really worked, especially in the context of Charley and Bernard being white. These young men would be lost after the war, they would be even more lost as young black men who may have been segregated. Wendell Pierce was a wonderful tragic figure, you can believe as Howard Jr states, that he was never that great a salesman but he seemed a nice bloke. Sharon D Clarke, Arinze Kene and Martins Imhangbe are incredible. Imhangbe feels like a real find.
I only paid £10 for my seat and was worried it would be a disaster but very happy with my upstairs, stage left seats.

I definitely didn't see this Master Harold and the boys cheap tickets during membership booking so I am glad they keep them back for public booking.
It has got so expensive now. I'm having to spend upwards of £32 and not enough shows have Young Patron Club Nights with free wine to make it worth it.

Does anyone remember in Viva Forever! (did it have an exclamation mark?) when one of the characters says "LET'S MAKE THE HEADLINES" and all the audience groaned because we had Headlines about 3 times.
The point does anyone shout out "This is an impossible dream!" leading into a version of the song.

I wonder why it is struggling. I thought this would be a must see. Full of names? Is it is a lack of familiarity with the source material? Too many must-see shows.
Personally, I have seen offers and been offered free tickets but I wasn't willing to cancel my night in for it. I thought I was just over my FOMO.

At Dinner is Coming my friend whilst waiting at the bar heard a couple loudly discuss their plans for the weekend.
"So we will shag, get some dinner and then see a gig"
As a busy woman I have partaked in scheduled sexy times with my partner but not in public.

I was at the matinee too. I was in M3, which I would recommend. I really enjoyed. K Todd Freeman is a stunning find and it was very thought provoking.
My friend had not liked it because of the portrayal of Andy but I don't think it was an unfair portrayal. If he did have an ulterior motive then who could blame him. The abuse sounds horrific but it was also apparent that without Fred's abuse he would have a from childhood.
Could someone give Cecila Noble her own cop show?

And maybe it should have stayed a BBC adaptation. I had a lovely time, mainly due to the performances but at over 3 hours, a poor use of the Olivier as a set (though 3 stars alone for revolve use) but this felt more like Norris showing someone somewhere that he is a bit of sick of theatre and would like to do more screen work. I think in light of a white creative cast the relentless racial insults (Yes, Britain wasn't friendly. What is literally new) is hard work For the audience. This has been advertised and aimed at Afro-Caribbean audiences but there is clear issues about stories being for audiences or about the audience and this treaded the fine line.

I am off to see it tonight. Running time is 3 hours for some reason so I am already dreading it but thanks Young Patrons Membership for the promise of two free drinks later.
