The cheapest decent seat I could get was for £32 mid-week previews. I am interested in other stuff but not desperate to see it because Alex Jennings isn't in those.

So as I am Jennings obsessed so I spent £38 on a balcony ticket. *GULP* but I also love Florence. Here is hoping I get bumped up and a free limoncello. Haha, thinking of doing this now. Must be a good chance of being bumped! I am hoping to be bumped up to Jennings' lap at those prices.

Let's hope Maggie is available to sign programmes at the stage door. From what I heard DMS does not do the stage door. I've also heard that she does not understand why anyone would want to meet her. I've also heard that meeting her is not a pleasant experience as she will belittle you. If any of this is true please let me know. I've only had one opportunity to meet her and because of the comments above, I chose not too. In my mind it is Patrica Quinn spreading these rumours. They are (literally a) Pat and Peggy from Eastenders.

It wasn't the work of a woman who had been off stage for 12 years and has forgotten what to do. She was in command of her lines and her character but it is just a shame there isn't a but more oomf to it. Smith is an actress that finds gold amongst the muck. Hampton may have been suggesting that just a normal, boring young woman got caught in this and her revelation at the end made me wonder what else she was hiding from us. There were some interesting sections, like losing her thread and going off topic when fancy aspects of her life she didn't want to consider, like what happened to Jewish friends in her life but my partner felt the whole "This COULD never happen again" felt a bit contrived.

So do you think you'll be able to see where you're sat? Wasn't sure if you meant view fine everywhere Snciole or just where you were in gallery 2. I don't reckon there is a bad seat in the theatre. You can easily see Maggie and often turns to both side galleries though is mostly face on.

The discount for Universal Credit is such an insult. An absolute joke. Its making me angry. I agree. My mum is on UC and she is strugggling to eat and pay her bills. I could just about buy a £67 ticket with my AMEX and I am in full time work. An absolute low.

They are starting to get desperate. I've had at least three ticket sellers who I occassionally blog for offering tickets for three different nights. It is rare there are three trade nights in a short run, in such a large venue. It is struggling and I don't know how they will build the momentum and interest it needs. The reputation of the ENO summer musical should have shifted tickets but there is a lot not resonating with the public.

View is fine due to the previously mentioned spoiler. Running at 1 hour and 40 minutes, which was the fourth rumoured running time. The text people are getting is way off. Without any spoilers DMS is incredible, engaging and warm in this monologue but Hampton's script is poor. There is no dramatic conclusion and very little for Maggie to do apart from try and get into this head of a woman who still doesn't know if she should be blamed. I am glad I saw her but I doubt this production would have seen the light of day without her involvement.

Off to the first production tonight. I am in the Gallery 2 side seats (partner wanted to go, partner did not want to spend more than £15) so I hope we can hear her at least.

I don't think I have been back at The Other Palace since it changed its name and became musicals only. I am off to the press night of this on Tuesday and whilst there is an undeniable market for musicals there is also a market for plays who don't have a home somewhere else.

The whole thing is baffling, Lyndsey Turner is a baffling director alright. I think Norris saw a quick win in terms of getting wimmins in theatre but I don't understand, from the sounds of it, why this production has been in a way that just doesn't work. Regardless of quality.

I saw it a few years ago at Trafalgar Studios (with Surabne Jones) and really it feels like 2 plays just shoved together to make a whole one to justify the ticket price. I’d quite like to revisit it though, so will check this out as I suspect the NT version has quite a different feel. I saw that production too and loved it (8 years ago, gulp!) - heard nothing but bad about this one so far, though. I think Suranne Jones really proved herself as more than a soap actress (soap actors and actresses work damn hard though, as most people know) but I can see why people are repelled by this. Churchill is not that accessible and the decision to have separate actors in the historical and modern scenes is baffling.

The return of Lucian Msamati is exciting, he was sensational in Amadeus. Interesting that they've brought Translations back - they refer to it as a sell-out but I don't recall there being that much hype around it? Certainly not on the scale of Follies or Amadeus, their other recent repeats. I'll still book for most of the season though - got to make use of Entry Pass while I'm still young enough! Msamati is great, and along with Jennings, nominated for BAFTA which was announced today. For all the NTs faults it can still attract some top names and that is what ultimately gets money in.

So update, I've just got done getting checked over because I slipped on the curb outside and smacked my head on the concrete! So as you can imagine, I'm gonna have to give this one a miss, head to the train station and go home. Never a dull moment people, never a dull moment. I am glad you aren't too broken. I hope you are back out on the town soon

It was announced today (Friday 15 March 2019) that renowned stage, film and TV performer Peter Polycarpou will play Don Quixote’s squire, Sancho Panza in Man of the Mancha at the London Coliseum; the first West End production of this multi-Tony award-winning Broadway musical for 50 years.
I think Polycarpou is a wonderful actor and addition to this cast but this is not the big sexy name that is going to sell obscenely priced tickets.

In fairness by calling it 'The Boring Room' he opened it up to all manner of easy jokes about it in that respect... Yes, I would never call a play something like "THIS IS AWFUL" because that is all you will think about when you watch the play.

It's worth pointing out here that James Safechuck didn't testify in the 2005 trial - he refused to do so.
I don't think for a SINGLE minute that James wants fame. Wade, possibly. He's worked in the business for some years, and there is a possible 'fringe benefit' to taking part in the documentary.
I think Safechuck is the key to why this has been such a painful documentary. I believe Wade, Wade had a lot to lose by coming out about his abuse and more scrutiny because of his profile. He also stayed close to the Jackson family in adulthood. It is clear he felt he had a duty to Michael and his family. Safechuck could have just stayed quiet, in the shadows and become forgotten as one of Michael's boys (I was fascinated by Brett Barnes who seems exactly like the sort of boy MJ could have abused). I think once this dies down so will Safechuck. I do believe MJ didn't abuse Culkin. Culkin was too powerful, even as a child, to take that risk even if he was vulnerable. MJ would have focused on the nobodies who weren't to be believed.

Poor Olly, with his League of Gentlemen sounding name. It oddly wasn't the writer who was offended (and I would have taken it down if he had contacted me directly) but it was another member of the production. I take delight in writing about shows I hate to make up for the awful evening so I get Ed's tone but it seemed to have an effect on reviewers britishtheatre.com/review-the-boring-room-vault-festival/

I have had only one demand for a takedown regarding this review viewfromthecheapseat.com/2018/02/08/the-boring-room-vaults-festival/As an editor (I didn't write the review) I refused. There was nothing bad in there (though the producer claimed it had insulted the writer's name!?) and it was a fair review of a show that did badly across the board. In desperation, the complainer tried to argue the review anonymous and unfair. It isn't, it wasn't. The Stage gave it 1 star I wonder if he wrote to them complaining.

At worst is sheer arrogance about the theatre's standing. I suppose they don't care because All My Sons has the star names and strong numbers but a good playhouse shouldn't rely on a few stand out hits to subsidise the dross.

Clarke Peters being replaced by Sule Rimi. That seems odd to me... Practicalities aside I cannot believe the Old Vic didn't think this could cope without star casting. Even Miller's name will bring a healthy but not necessarily strong audience. Perhaps I have underestimated how much it brought in advanced sales.

Hytner's NEVER been good with new plays that aren't by Alan Bennett (and even then his success rate is far from 100%). Anyone remember TRAVELLING LIGHT at the Nash? The only time I have seen an audience member heckle writer and director about a play during an NT Platform. Mortifying for everyone there.

Posted in the Caroline or Change thread but posting here too for full effect as some may not monitor that... Older couple take their seats next to me and the husband asks her what the show is about as they sit down.... “a woman in her thirties, at her birthday. All her friends are taken or in relationships and she’s the odd one out. It’s snippets of all their lives around her. Caroline or change” Wrong show love. This ain’t Company. Interval came and she was suddenly complaining of Vertigo and looking for a reason to leave. She must have felt like such a fool. I bet her husband was looking her up and down. I love how she linked her synopsis of Company to the Caroline or Change title. "It is a prequel to the Wizard of Oz. Cats"

I live in Croydon and occasionally travel to Wimbledon or Richmond with the odd venture to Chichester, though the shows I like are in the expensive theatre so those journeys have been few and far between recently.
I struggle to go any further West than Shepherd's Bush or any North than Finsbury Park. The trains are so rubbish and I am so tired.

Mixed feelings about the dildo in the garage. On one hand in these uncertain times I don't think stockpiling sex toys/paraphernalia is a bad idea. We've started stockpiling pasta, rice and salmon paste (for food, rather than sexy purposes)
However is it a practical location? If she is exclusively using it in the garage then fair enough but if she decides to use it in the bedroom it is a bit of an inconvenience.
