You say that, but The Master Builder's been selling out, and Man & Superman went pretty quickly too. As a frequent theatre-goer, I do tend to forget that some actors are international movie stars... Absolutely but these were his first productions after a long time. If he does Richard III at Almeida this summer (as rumoured) the novelty of seeing Fiennes on the stage may start to wear off. It would be the same if Kidman, Cooper etc did theatre all the time.

I wouldn't say all the walkouts where violence related, most people walked out during the chocolate eating scene It is a tedious scene, to be fair, and because I am a massive drama queen I was wondering if it was faeces? I think walk outs, though I have never done this, are bound to be expected in any play but most have an interval you can discretely leave at. I was determined to see every last bit of flesh for my £15 though.

With no disrespect to Kinnear, McCrory etc are they the big names people will pay £65 to see?
In 2018 people might pay that for Ralph Fiennes but he's been doing so much theatre that he won't be that much of a draw.

It turns out I am fine with Katie Mitchell as long as there is plenty of nudity and a smaller space. I wondered if the issue was Nick Hytner was putting her work in too large spaces, like the Lyttelton, for the work to make an impact and for shows to be so empty. I'll be honest, I am not entirely sure I knew what was happening but Michelle Terry is such an engaging actress-both clothed and nude (I am now inspired to get to the gym ASAP to have a bottom like hers)-that I couldn't hate it, which I have done with Katie Mitchell. I really liked Tom Mothersdale's performance as Tinker too. A few walk outs, quite empty and my terrible circle level seat meant I missed a lot of the gore.
Michelle Terry nude? So dreams do come true!
Haha! I forgave Paul Ready for not being with me very suddenly (I am assuming they are still a couple?). Worth paying Dorfman's extortionate prices! At the risk of being vulgar I was relieved to see both actresses had pubic hair. Society seems to suggest women should be hairless like mole rats!

The Threepenny Opera and The Plough And The Stars are Travelex. Don't know about anything else beyond the summer, though we can safely say that the Young Chekhov trilogy, The Deep Blue Sea, and Sunset At The Villa Thalia aren't. Thank you, Baemax. Clearly mad and blind!

Where are the Travelex productions for the newly announced plays? Am I going mad/blind?

Finally something at Hampstead to get excited about. I really like the venue and the under 30 tickets are good value.

The Duffman taps are dribbling again, the soap dispensers aren't working properly so someone has bought some general hand soap.
What exactly did NT Future pay for in this redevelopment?
I also run up to Olivier Cloakroom toilets but I think comes down to age/bladder control. I wouldn't want to risk an incident if I was waiting for a life or going up the stairs but queuing as the interval clock goes down is also ridiculous. I suspect they were designed by men, who simply don't talk to women about toilet usage.

I hope they only introduce this for musicals/special events because plays just do not sell out or attract groups to justify allocated seating in this venue. The last full play I saw was Casa Valentina and even then I had no trouble getting a decent seat.
I speak as someone who panics when with friends about unallocated seating.. I made a poor friend get to Finborough so early we were the second and third people to take seats!

I know I have regretted not booking shows based on what people here say, the current Complicite and The Gathered Leaves spring to mind. I booked People, Places and Things transfer purely based on word of mouth and reviews but most of the time I book because of actors, writers and directors as well as other minor factors like "Do I like the theatre/theatre space etc"

Does George Taylor get naked, Debbie? Asking for me. Everyone gets naked... Upon leaving last night I would not have recommended this but upon retrospect and some reading, I understand its brilliance. I would recommend doing a bit of reading up on Sarah Kane and her use of metaphor before hand, though it would suggest the flaw is that that is a necessity. I swore I wouldn't because Mitchell but I see there are a few £15 tickets left for tonight!

Almeida was strangely civilised when it came to toilets, my (female) companion and I hadn't had time to go before the show but the first act is on 35 minutes but it did help that I knew to run down the ramp and use the toilet as we only had 10 minutes (not the sort of play you were a play/jump suit for!)
I think what gets me is that, currently, I am a a young spinster with a good bladder but the majority of female patrons are older and may have had children-won't go into details but having children seems to mess with your bladder in all sorts of ways. There needs to be more toilets in theatres to cater for this.

Chiming in late to say that I can't believe I missed you - from the photo I was sitting right by you both! Snciole, were you wearing a rather glamorous red and black dress? If so, I did wonder whether it might be you but I didn't want to sound mad in front of a stranger and also I wasn't 100% sure how to pronounce your screen name...! I will be braver in future. It was a really interesting and entertaining talk; was grabbed by the fact that SRB expressed an interest in playing Shylock. As an aside, I didn't understand the laughter when he said he junior doc nephew was on strike... Missed the rowing couple, alas. That was me, I am not usually so glamorous and think that is the fanciest thing in my wardrobe prettykittyfashion.co.uk/products/pretty-kitty-red-black-flock-floral-swing-dressJust ask if I am the one obsessed with Alex Jennings next time and if that person doesn't nod enthusiastically then it isn't me!

Were you also wearing glasses or have I mixed you up with someone else? I will try and wear a brighter dress next time Yes glasses, short, dark hair and dressed for the arctic which turned out to be handy since that room was so cold. In my mid 30s I should just get over being shy Ha! I wouldn't have put you at mid-thirties, you look much younger and much more sensibly dressed than me (I was freezing!)! I am clearly shy too

I loved this, what a mesmerising cast and in particular Paul Rhys-who I hadn't seen before. Very rare to have any actor that you just want to watch.
I am amazed nobody picked up in the Guardian interview Rhys appearing to lie about his age. He is claiming to be 47 but internet says he is 52!

I will keep an eye out for you now I know what you look like, I have a miserable resting face myself but rest assured you did seem at all 'bitchy'. The couple were almost physically wrestling at one point, made me wonder if I was going to have to stop pretending I wasn't there and consider intervening but I think fortunately someone else showed up at that point and it calmed down a bit. Wild nights all round! Were you also wearing glasses or have I mixed you up with someone else? I will try and wear a brighter dress next time

I was the manic one in a red dress and glasses wandering around trying to get the Cloud wifi to work! I am usually more sedate. I didn't stay for the free wine as I was worried I might drunkely ask SRB to hand over Alex Jennings' phone number. I even wondered half heartedly if that was you, something to do with both being there very early, I clearly should have loudly board name dropped and seen if you'd reacted. For some time there was just me and an elderly couple who were rowing about a 'her' so the arrival of other people was something of a relief. I stuck to apple juice but still then couldn't find my way out and had to scout the building until I found someone to follow. Ha! Please say hello next time, I am friendlier than I look. I even wore lipstick in hope it would soften my "bitchy resting face" She stormed out, as I came out of the toilet, saying "I don't need to listen to this" and he calmly followed her out. He didn't look the sort to have a fancy piece but you never know these days! I don't know if they came back.

So I managed to push my way to the front (I got there far too early but apparently 400 tickets had been given away for 250 seats!) It was a really interesting talk, SRB is a funny, warm and clearly knowledgeable man. I am not really someone who has read around Shakespeare so it was all new to me plus it has made me want to put Troilus and Cressida on my to see list.

Part of me feels like Glenda would, I also think a Helen Mirren Lear would disrobe but I can't imagine Dame Judi. This is a new thread, isn't it? Who would get naked on stage? The PC answer is I will take whatever nudity/dogs I can get if I have paid good money

I genuinely don't get the James Norton adulation. He's the guy everyone went nutty for in War & Peace, right? I'm sure he's a lovely chap, and I'm equally sure he wouldn't fancy me either - but I have to say, my pulse rate remains resolutely normal whenever I see him on screen. or some of us are just that desperate to see a naked man!

This is my second and last chance for it to be good, Jean so I am not judging you!
I saw the SRB one and think it is the worst thing I have seen SRB in (as seen in other threads I am a huge fan of his) but I hope Glenda can bring some vulnerability to this (Will she get naked like McKellen, for example?) and that there is some interesting casting alongside her.

King's College London run a Shakespeare Studies course so it would have been odd for them not to "muscle in" as their students alone would have expected events from their academics.
I am not really sure who you think should and shouldn't be celebrating/commiserating this anniversary, HG.

I also have an advance membership and agree with Rumbledoll. I live in London, I mostly go to the theatre alone so flexible with dates/booking in advance and the advance memberships means I am guaranteed a Travelex ticket and if I am flexible with dates/where I sit £15 general sale tickets aren't impossible.
I just think £80 is too much when the NT programme hasn't been that impressive recently but I may change to that when my membership comes up for renewal in December.
