This reminds me why I find going to a Punkdrunk show rather annoying, any advice on how to find Troy? When in Mycenae (the space with the long table on the mezzanine level) follow any of the soldier type men and they will lead you to Troy eventually.
Alternatively when in Mycenae look for the big stairs that lead up to the Mezzanine level (you can’t miss those). Walk away from those and through the doors on the other end of the space. There’s a long corridor that looks really bare that leads to Troy (there are some signs saying “To Troy” in there but they’re easily missed).

Missing a whole area is indeed unfortunate. I tend to follow characters for a full loop because I enjoy experiencing their narrative. That means I usually end up being "taken" around the set by a character. (Just to point out: I do not follow uncomfortably close - the lack of spacial awareness of some people is one of my biggest pet peeves in Punchdrunk shows)
I went to the first 4 previews of Burnt City fully expecting it to be chaos. And I actually left the first preview being quite impressed by how polished the show was. It was clearly a work in progress and things went wrong (probably even more than was visible from an audience point of view). But for a first preview of an immersive show of that scale it was a slick performance. I'm watching another bunch of performances this weekend and am looking forward to seeing what changes have been made. There were significant changes made throughout the 4 very first shows I watched - a lot of them had to do with audience flow. And one on one performances had not been added at that point but are slowly being implemented now from what I have been told.
So far I have always gone into a Punchdrunk show with minimal to no research. I knew nothing about The Drowned Man before my first visit. When I went to see Sleep no more for the first time I knew it was loosely based on Macbeth. With Burnt City all I knew was it was some version of the fall of Troy. I generally don't think excessive research is required before attending a Punchdrunk show. But I also think going into any of their masked shows for the first time wanting to make sense of the narrative will end in frustration.
Hopefully you can give the show another chance after opening night. They will be doing £25 rush tickets through Time Out if that is an option for you.

They provide you with their signature Punchdrunk mask (the venetian type mask they have been using in other productions). You wear it on top of whatever face covering you bring yourself (can be a cloth or a medical mask). Thank you for replying Is the Venetian one mandatory? Yes, it’s part of Punchdrunk’s show concept and has to be worn by every audience member. Basically its there to distinguish between audience and staff (performers and in show stewards) while in the performance space. You can take off the Venetian mask whenever you enter the bar which is open from about one hour into the performance.

When they say a mask ‘alongside the Punchdrunk mask’ Will we be supplied with a theatrical mask like I’ve seen in photos of their other productions? It is a „regular“ Punchdrunk show so no, it won’t be possible to see everything in one show. I don’t want to spoil anything for those that have never seen a Punchdrunk show before though so won’t go into detail. :-) And as far as I know the recommended face masks are just that - recommended. Any face mask should be fine (medical or cloth). But considering there will be several hundred people roaming freely I personally will be wearing a FFP2 mask.

Another place I would recommend is Mémé: memeonhudson.com/We went to the Hell’s Kitchen location for brunch last Sunday. The food was great and the service wonderful.

The Meatball Shop: www.themeatballshop.comOne of their locations is on the corner of 53rd and 9th which works well for a pre Broadway show dinner.

Mark What time did you start queuing if you don’t mind me asking? Flying out to New York at the end of next week and definitely want to see the show. :-) 6:30 and I was first in line! I recon you'd of been fine up until atleast 8am on Wednesday (2 show day) I was told all seats were partial view but mine in A9 was absolutely fine, just a small restriction for about 5 minutes of the show when a piano was blocking the scene. Great! Thanks for the info. :-)

Who was it that posted about how wonderful it had been to travel through Austria, where everyone willingly wore not just masks, but the high-grade masks mandated by the government? A month later Austria went into lockdown, followed by Germany and France. 🤔 Germany didn’t go into lockdown. That was the Netherlands and mask wearing there was average at best before that. And that’s me being generous (I live close to the Dutch border).

Maybe try contacting Dewynters? They handle the marketing for BTTF so might at least be able to point you in the right direction.

I see they now have a massive programme. Could anyone who is planning on going soon please report back on what merchandise is now available? When I went at the end of November there was nothing really. I would like to call back at some point to get a usual size programme if there is one and maybe a poster. Thanks in advance! I went yesterday and yes, they have a big brochure / programme with production photos for £10 now. No smaller, non brochure programme though and I didn’t see other merchandise (didn’t look for it either though so could have just missed it).

Hs anyone seen a Punchdrunk show before? I know it the past the audience has worn masks, however when I booked it didn't mention this on the booking link. My partner has PTSD so cant wear a mask (much like during lockdown). If they use masks for this will there be exceptions? I’ve read in several articles that this will be a masked show. I would be surprised if it wasn’t. And no, if they require the audience to wear masks they don’t tend to make exceptions as far as I know. But I would contact them and ask. They might give you the option to go in maskless with an access guide. I don’t think anyone will get the regular free roaming experience without wearing a mask though. It’s just a big part of how their shows work.

This definitely sounds like a mistake or bad wording. If you are fully vaccinated you won’t need to quarantine no matter how long your trip to the UK is. You only need a Covid test pre departure and one on or before day 2 of your trip.

The day 2 test is a risk I’m willing to take. Also, you don’t have to take it on day 2 as far as I know. It can be taken anytime between arrival and day 2. So you could get tested at the airport before flying over and then get the day 2 test done straight after arriving in the UK. The risk of catching Covid between those 2 tests is very slim if you take the usual safety measures. And if you can avoid crowds at home the days before flying out you minimise the risk even further. So I’ll basically stay away from people the days before flying to London. Obviously that only works if you don’t have to be out and about for work and such.

It's hugely frustrating to hear of people here in Germany refusing the AstraZeneca vaccine. I would have it straight away but because I'm in the lowest priority group there is no way for me to get vaccinated at this point. If at least they would manage to move to whoever is next in line swiftly if one person refuses to get vaccinated with AstraZeneca. But it all seems to be taking ages.

I loved LOTR. I never liked the book or films much, but it worked for me, and I loved the music too. I rarely see things more than once but went 4 times. It would be one of the things I'd like to go back in time and see again. Maybe I wasn't keen on the stage version because I love the books. So much had to be left out or changed to make a show of under 3 hours. The films I thought were quite good in terms of design but some of the plot changes really annoyed me and, unlike the stage version, didn't have the time constraint excuse. I totally agree the stage version had some serious plot problems. I’d only seen the films when I first watched the musical but I think without any prior knowledge I would have been a bit lost. So in that respect it was a flawed show for sure. For me it was the spectacle, the music and the cast. Plus the moment I entered the auditorium I felt like I was in a different world. The pre show was such fun, too. The Hobbits were always quite keen to trade apples for sweets.

I wonder what happened to Euan Morton. He was King George in Hamilton up until Broadway closed in March. His son is Ian Armitage who plays Young Sheldon in the Big Bang Theory spin off.

Wonder if this means they won't bring it to Cologne now as they did with Miss Saigon before. Originally there were plans to bring it to Cologne but everything has gone quiet on that front. The cast doesn’t think it’s going to happen.

Caught the show in Zurich last night. I enjoyed it more than I thought I would after being unimpressed by this version of the show when I I I saw it on Broadway. For me the revolve is missing a lot and the barricades look quite small and unremarkable (however, from what I remember they were even tinier on Broadway unless my memory is playing tricks on me). But all in all the staging works.
Good to see Dean Chisnall’s Valjean again. Also Cameron Blakely’s Thenardier who remains one of my all time favorites in the role. Nic Greenshield’d Javert I thought I would love but sadly I didn’t. He has an wonderful voice and an impressive stage presence but for some reason he seemed quite stiff in his movements. Also, get the man a new set of costumes - his look like they’ve shrunk in the washing. I saw the understudy for Marius (Danny Colligan) who I thought was great. Couldn’t really warm to Barnaby Hughes’ Enjolras.
All in all I’m glad I saw the tour. I might go again sometime this summer. Bit of a shame the show doesn’t seem to have picked up in Zurich. For a Saturday evening there were a lot of empty seats. And I was told the Circle has been closed for the past week due to lack of ticket sales.

Jersey Boys at the Prince Edward Theatre - I never warmed to the show after it moved to the Piccadilly Theatre. Lord of the Rings - I know it was a flop but I loved it. Once with the original London cast - I love the show in general but the original cast was very special to me. Heather Headley in the Bodyguard - for me no one else ever came close to her Rachel Marron.

Travelodge Finsbury Park has availabilty for under £150 for those 3 nights. Finsbury Park tube station is close by. You can get the Victoria Line straight to Victoria Station from there. Also the Piccadilly Line that will take you to Leicester Square for all your other shows.
I would not stay at the Gresham. I know people who have and it was not a pleasant experience. The Ridgemount Hotel on the same street has single rooms with shared facilities for under £200. It's basic but clean and the owners are wonderful. I stay there regularly. If you want to be in walking distance of the West End I would recommend that option. To get to Victoria you can take the Victoria Line from Warren Street. Busses from Goodge Street Station (I think No. 24 and 29 go to Victoria) are slightly cheaper but can get stuck in bad traffic especially during after work rush hour so you would need to factor is more time to get to your shows.
And another vote for the Citymapper app from me. So useful.

Could this work best in immersive shows, possibly? Sleep no more in Shanghai has a system in place where they lock phones in little bags that you hang around your neck. They unlock them when you leave the show. When I was there it seemed to work - no phone use inside the show. But it did mean leaving the show took quite a while if you had to join the queue to get your phone unlocked.

I really enjoyed this! The story is paper thin (to be expected when you've seen the movie). And Aaron and Karen while individually great have zero sexual chemistry. But the choreography, the set, the costumes, the music and the energy of the cast meant I had an incredibly enjoyable afternoon. I love how they have put the music together - one big mash up after the next. I can see how people who don't enjoy jukebox musicals will hate this show though. Side note: Impressed by Tam singing "I want you to love me like I'm a hot ride" and keeping a straight face.
