I saw it at least twice, maybe three times. Also had Tim Howar in it. I loved it - it was definitely more a dance/revue kind of show. Had some really catchy tunes.

Wasn't there a whole unspoken policy for DMT shows not allowing covers to even announce their scheduled dates? Not sure how the situation is now, this was something I heard a few years back Not sure if this was a general DMT policy but when a friend was in Les Mis he wasn't allowed to announce his scheduled days off.

For me this show was at its best at the Prince Edward Theatre. Ryan, Glenn, Stephen and Philip were superb and had a special bond that just showed on stage. I saw Jersey Boys more times than I'd like to admit between 2008 and 2014. I enjoyed every cast during those years but none of them ever came close to the 2008/2009 and 2009/2010 cast for me. Was never a fan of Scott's Frankie though - he was missing a certain edge in my eyes - but that's all personal preference.

Also, Shaq Taylor is better as Hamilton than LMM. Sorry! I think most performers who have played that role are better than LMM. Lin is a lot of things but a great performer he is not. And I say that as someone who loves his work.

The only show I've ever left at the interval was Thriller Live in London, in about 2017. It was abysmal. I wish I had left that show at the interval. I only went because a friend was in it and had given me a free ticket. So at least I didn't pay for those 2 hours of torture but I also felt obliged to sit through the whole thing.

Easiest way to get there is definitely the boat. They have designated shuttle boats that depart from the Landungsbrücken.
Take the S-Bahn S1, S2 or S3 or the U-Bahn U3 to Landungsbrücken. The shuttle boats depart from St. Pauli Landungsbrücken / Brücke 1 from 1.5 hours before the show and are marked "HADAG Musical Shuttle Service". They're free of charge.

How many times did you go in the end, Steffi? I went twice and didn't quite get into it. I have been 40+ times thanks to various ticket offers over the past year. I have to say though, the more I went the more I noticed flaws. I do think the show has a lot of potential and the Persephone narrative is one of Punchdrunk‘s best storytelling in my opinion. There are some beautiful scenes and I love the contrast between the vast space of Mycenae and the almost claustrophobic feel of Troy (although following characters there is a pain unless you’re familiar with the loops). But I hardly ever was emotionally invested in any character‘s story (apart from Persephone). I had some wonderful shows with the most magical little moments. But Burnt City never felt like „home“ (for lack of a better word). Totally different to what it felt/feels to enter Temple Studios or the McKittrick Hotel. I do feel for cast and crew who have worked so hard to make this show work. I will make one last visit in August to say goodbye to the space. Not going to the last show because funny enough I will only just have returned from NYC a day earlier.

Great pity, but I can't see how they are going to make that venue work when the outside temperature is warm, because inside is like a sauna and every show gets cut short. Without investment in air conditioning, it's just not suitable. Does anyone know if Punchdrunk plan a new show or are abandoning that site? From the press release: Artistic Director, Felix Barrett said: “Creating The Burnt City in the midst of a pandemic was one of the most incredible feats our team has achieved. We couldn’t be prouder of this show and everyone who brought our world of gods and mortals to life. The Burnt City has propelled us forwards and we want to keep that momentum, making the most of our new home in Woolwich. It’s the first time we have had a long-term space to call our own, so these extraordinary buildings are the perfect place to showcase our ideas quickly without needing to wait years for the right venue to come along. We’re fairly sure that The Burnt City will be the last new mask show the company makes, and what comes next will be different and unlike anything we have done before. We cannot wait to unleash these new ideas and in the meantime, we hope that everyone will make the most of our precious last months of The Burnt City!”

Mason has also already played the role in the US. There's a couple of videos of them on Youtube.

Dean had Thursday matinees off Dean actually had Mondays and Thursday mats off, but I assume Josh will only have 1 show off and Dean was the exception with having 2. His days off varied a bit since he came in on quite short notice and already had several other commitments during his short return to the show. When he was in the show full time his scheduled day off was Monday.

Just seen this being discussed on another forum. Bad behaviour or attention seeking actor? If someone actually followed him to the train station then that's clearly more than just bad behaviour However, if he is taking the train from Charing Cross Station (which is the closest station to the theatre) then it might just be a case of those fans needing to catch a train from there, too. Really impossible to judge without having been there.

There were £42 tickets on TodayTix for this earlier today, for dates through till October, I was going to book but needed to check diary, so waited until after work, and now it’s back to £89/£102 again 😡 which is annoying. I’m intrigued, not been to a Punchdrunk production before, but I’m not £102 intrigued. £35 and £45 tickets now available on TodayTix. :-)

To me it looks like someone at TodayTix might just have clicked a button too early and put them on sale before they were supposed to be available.

I remember not being blown away by this but loving The Journey Home. It’s the one song from the soundtrack I still listen to at times. It’s a beautiful song.

Non theatre wise I can recommend these walking tours: freetoursbyfoot.com/de/new-york-tours/My friend and I have done a couple of them over the years and have never been disappointed. Great way to spend a few hours and get to know different parts of the city better.

Does anyone remember the fanatical Ramin fan? Once when I was at Les Mis he leapt to his feet cheering after Bring Him Home and was rewarded by some very odd looks from the cast. I think they knew him. I remember him and can confirm the cast knew him and he was not very popular amongst them.

What are the worst shows for casts to be doing in this heat? I was at Punchdrunk’s The Burnt City this weekend and the whole venue is like a sauna. Considering it’s a three hour, non stop performance with a lot of moving around / dancing I imagine that one is amongst the worst to do in this weather.

I would just like to ask, as it seems to be the buzzword for any new play or musical opening - what exactly is immersive theatre? The word immersive is used for every show that has a slightly less traditional staging or one bit of audience interaction these days. In truth a lot of these “immersive shows” are not even promenade productions. Truly immersive theatre is rare. Punchdrunk are the ones that do it best in my opinion. But I’ve seen some really good immersive productions by other companies: Then She Fell in New York is one example. Secret Cinema is immersive in its own way but has more of an interactive event character so I wouldn’t class it as immersive theatre. Basically for me immersive theatre is a show that completely draws me into the experience. I don’t just watch a show from an assigned seat, I walk around in a different world and in a way become part of this world (as an observer with sometimes carefully crafted interactions with the cast).

Meanwhile if you want to go when it's "cheap" (not that NYC is ever super cheap) I suggest January. Just be aware it will most likely be freezing cold. My friend and I have always found great deals for hotels in January and Broadway tends to be quieter then, too.

YESSSS!! Hello fellow x-phile! Been obsessed with XF since I was 12, I love it! I'm on season 3 of my re-watch! Thank you Disney+ (even though I have them all on dvd, who can be bothered with those now!) I was just thinking I may need yet another rewatch of my 90s comfort show. Nice to see some fellow X-Philes on here! I rewatched all of the X-Files last year. Used to follow that show religiously back in the days and still love it. I must have seen some episodes 20+ times at least (probably more). Hello fellow X-Philes!

I've got to say, reading this thread makes me feel a lot better about seeing this show. I never saw Sleep No More because it sounded so anxiety-inducing - in my mind's eye I guess I was imagining a labyrinth of terrifying, empty rooms you find yourself getting lost in with no idea of where you are or how you get out, with actors jumping out at you every now and then to drag you away for scary 1 on 1 experiences. It's quite a relief to hear that you can just follow an actor around to experience some of the story and not get lost, and that there will be other people around to hopefully jump on those 1 on 1 chances. There are definitely no jump scares. I hate those, too. Also the one on ones are always voluntary. No performer will ever force you into them. Just don't take the performer's hand if they hold it out to you.

How do the time slots work? If you go earlier can you wander round till it closes? What times do regular PD recommend to get the full story arc? Thanks They haven't been enforcing the time slots so far. You get in on a first come, first serve basis (premium and vip ticket holders have a separate entrance). The show runs in loops that are roughly 1 hour long and repeat 3 times. You will never get the full story arc in one visit though. If you're strategical you can follow 3 characters for their one hour narrative in one show. Considering there are 20+ characters in the show you will still only see a fraction of the whole show. But Punchdrunk shows are not meant to be seen in full in one visit. The idea is that each visitor has their own experience. At the end of the evening no one will have had exactly the same show.

I forgot to mention an issue with the policy of asking people to carry their mobile around in a sealed pouch. Judging by last night, some people forget to silence them first, and are then unable to do anything when they ring out loud during the show. The last times I went they explicitly asked people to put phones on silent or turn them off before sealing them in the pouch.

What’s so special about Troy and what advice to give a newbie about following actors or just going my own path. For the price I would like to think I don’t have to repeat view to feel I’ve experienced a PD show Troy is a more detailed space with lots of different rooms. There’s a lot to explore there even when not following a performer. Mycenae is a mostly wide and open. Lots of scenes there are quite cinematic and look beautiful (I love watching things happening downstairs up from the mezzanine level).
