Does anyone know why Wicked did so badly at the 2007 Olivier awards? I mean, it wasn't even nominated for Best New Musical against what wasn't exactly strong competition.

I read quite an interesting plot hole on another website recently. If the Engineer is half French, why didn't he just pursue French citizenship through legal means (birthright) rather than attempting to get into the USA - this possible route isn't acknowledged in the play at all.

One question which springs up.. where's the £5 per head going? TheatreCafe will make cash on the bar/food for the evening and there's no mention of charity (unlike Wilma's one from a couple of weeks ago). Therefore - can we presume that the £5/head is going into the WoS pocket? I presume an out of work former Jersey Boy gets paid

I REALLY hope they don't do Everybody Say Yeh at the Oliviers. They could always use some of its conveyorography in a different song. I can only think of 'Raise It Up' as the alternative that they might do - it seems to be the 'go to' song for awards shows.

What are your least favourite moments from musicals?
I have a few off the top of my head:
- the new Rum Tum Tugger rap in the Cats revival
- Vidiots and Strike That! from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (actually most of the score is horrific IMO)
- The playground song from Blood Brothers (atonal, incredibly difficult to listen to)
- Bend and Snap from Legally Blonde - IMO the only weakness in an otherwise v strong score. It's juvenile and moronic.

Random question given it's Olivier season. Why was Patti Lupone's Fantine in the Best Actress in a Musical category? Surely this is a supporting role given Fantine is dead for the middle 1.5 hours of the show.

Natalie Andreou replaced Emma Hatton after "Popular" at the matinee today (19th March, 2016) And she remained off for the evening performance. What happened?

I think the score is lovely and there are some magnificent moments but the book is quite dated and overtly sexist. The lyrics to 'Marry the Man' are cringe worthy.

1. Anything with music by Stephen Sondheim (except Sweeney Todd). 2. Rent. 3. Grand Hotel - how anyone could enjoy anything about it is beyond me. 4. The Last Five Years. 5. Gypsy - which I enjoyed very much, but not as much as the hype and awards would suggest. Grand Hotel is in my top 3 favourite musicals

Add my voice to the Cats and Wicked crowd. Watched Cats for the first time last Christmas and alternated between being bored, being baffled and cringing (that rap is a full-on crime against humanity). Wicked is just dull as dishwater. The rap in Cats is one of the lowest experiences I've ever had in musical theatre - what one earth were Mackintosh /Lloyd Webber thinking?!

I think Cats is a load of tosh - I spent 2 hours wondering what I was meant to be getting and whether I had missed something.
Beverly Knight saved the day with her solo, which was worth the £49.50 alone.

I wasn't a fan of live recordings until the recent Miss Saigon one. The sound quality is incredible and for some of the songs, such as the Engineer's solo songs, the audience reaction adds to the ambience
By contrast I didn't enjoy the London legally blonde recording and I don't think all the cast gave their best performances on it

If/When you're next at the Dominion, look up at the top back, facing away from the stage when standing at the front of the stalls or dress circle and you'll see the front of what used to be the grand circle at the theatre. Now turned into offices and corporate spaces. Very interesting factoid! Do you happen to know roughly what the capacity was when the grand circle was in use?

Just got back from Hand to God. The only thing I liked about it was the cute actor playing Tim - Kevin Mains.

Not hugely enamoured by the whole thing. Tempted to leave at the interval. Several, mostly older patrons, have decided to leave at the interval. I wonder if some of them didn't read the synopsis

That is a good channel although Raise You Up is weird the way they sing it. 'If your glitter [pause] rusts . . .' My guess would be that it was changed due to the fact that "glitter rusts" said with no break sounds too close to "cliterous" than they'd like!! This had never crossed my mind despite listening to the song hundreds of times. It really shows how far from my mind cliterous (sp?) is.

Credit where due, I bet it had a great closing night audience. It does have a fanbase so they must of gone wild. Their supposed fanbase doesn't seem to be active on this forum

I actually really like the film. I saw it the day it opened in Cimema's and the entire audience gave a standing ovation at the end. It was amazing to see on the big screen. Whilst Crowe is not the strongest singer, I actually think it kind of worked for that role. Jackman was amazing too with the physical aspects of the role, a great voice (though the end of Bring Him Home is awful). The highlights for me were obviously Anne Hathaway who was stellar and totally deserved the Oscar for that performance. But I actually think Samantha Barks was the strongest of the four ladies (Hathaway, Barks, Bonham Carter and Seyfried). She was massively underrated and, actually I think deserved an Oscar nomination right up there alongside Anne. But visually the film is stunning and you get the sense of the epic nature clearly. I also think the Broadway Revival really missed an opportunity by not adding Suddenly and not swapping I Dreamed a Dream and Lovely Ladies. That song makes so much more sense after Lovely Ladies. She gets thrown out of the factory because she has a child she told no one about and that is all we know of her. Whereas after the hair, necklace, teeth and sex, you really feel emotionally connected to her a lot more. I dunno, I just think that song placement has always been stupid. Isn't this because the factory workers need to change and put on makeup to then play the lovely ladies?

Only cast people on merit, not their star value. Russell Crowe to play the Engineer please
