Why does it take over a year for them to prepare for a tour? Will the cast like Tanya be able to get work permits and jobs in the mean time given the slightly awkward interim time period without being deported?

I was listening to the album today and had a question.
In 'All I need is the girl' should the line be 'the steps are good for the costume' or 'this step is good for the costume'? It seems to differ by production
More importantly, what does it mean? Why would steps be good for a costume?

Hi members attending the final matinee and evening performance on Saturday... We've talked about a group meeting on the previous board, so I just wanted to touch base and inquire if everyone is still interested? I have several emails I could contact privately and take it off the forum if need be. I was thinking we can meet at Cafe Boheme across the street from the Prince Edward Theatre at 1pm prior to the matinee, and around 6pm prior to the evening? Hope to see everyone there. It would be fun to catch up and talk musicals over tea or drinks. I'd be keen to meet before the evening performance. I don't know anyone though so it would be helpful if there were an easy way to identify members

Beautiful has now extended through February 18, 2017. Not surprised at all, it's in the feelgood nostalgia style of what does well in the West End these days and is overall a solid and quality bit of jukebox theatre

Was anyone there tonight who knows why Eva was replaced with Sooha Kim during act 1?

The dog from Legally Blonde was incredibly well trained *gasp* Skilpadde!! That's outrageous! Sheridan Smith is going to hunt you down like a dog! Why? Wouldn't she want her on stage dog to be recognised for its talent?

Can we still do comedy ones like Best Animal Performer? The dog from Legally Blonde was incredibly well trained

I saw the show last Saturday night and was blown away. There was an instant standing ovation right to the back of the stalls. The DM website booking system seems to be playing up again link It is showing tickets are available. It's probably returned tickets or house seats that have come back into availability. Even for sold out shows there's usually some returned tickets

Hamilton would be swallowed whole by that theatre. I'm sure they will need that many seats though. Regardless- Hamilton is booked into the Victoria Palace..! Interesting... I wonder where Billy Elliott will go when it returns to the west end then. Where did you hear about Hamilton?

I saw it on a Friday night about 4 months into its run and the theatre was around half full. It's a shame it didn't do better because I thought it was a quality musical and had a well integrated score and book

How does overnight queueing work? Do you restrain from sleeping or bring a sleeping bag and sleep outdoors?

I personally didn't like the view from the front row and found the stage a little high, though I was also on the far right side. I think the dance numbers lose a lot of impact from the front row and for some of the songs, including the intimate solos towards the end it seemed like the actors used the left side of the stage more so it gave the impression they were singing past you. Having said that this is quite an expensive show and the front row represents better value than you'd get for similarly priced seats in for example the back row of the upper circle

Front row - usually stage left I think. The stage right ones go to day seats. Or perhaps I have that the wrong way round! I think it's the other way round !

Probably a stupid question to ask AFTER I've bought tickets, but is there any audience participation in this show? No there isn't as far as I remember (though I went on second preview night)

I was quite obsessed with the show before it came to the West End, and I had gotten used to Stark Sands as Charlie, to the point where I found Killian's interpretation quite distracting.
I really loved Killian in Memphis, and Les Mis many years ago, but I couldn't find him convincing as Charlie. I think Stark's timid and silky singing voice suits the role much better, and brings out the innocence and 'everyman' quality in the character. Killian has a big powerful voice, which works better for Memphis and Les Mis (especially as Enjolras) but not Kinky Boots.
I also think he lacks a bit of sex appeal, but that's just my opinion :/

I did Dan, the Broadway production I absolutely adored, although I was lucky enough to be front row both times I saw it. It seemed a lot "bigger" on Broadway. Our London production is great though, the show itself is very strong. Very jealous . Did you see Lin Manuel Miranda? Also am I right to think it wasn't done in the round like in London (both in Southwark and King's Cross)

I'm waiting to see this right now and they've announced a delay to the start due to "unforeseen circumstances" and there are five roles being played by other people than listed. I love the theming and ambience around the bar / waiting area. Would be interested how this turned out. Did you have to wait much longer?

Adam Pearce was absolutely incredible as Javert - I hope he becomes principal one day. I saw Adam Pearce a few months back as Javert - thought he was spectacularly good. I'm not a huge LM fan, but I'd see it again just to see him in the role. I saw him too mid last year. I thought it took him a while to get going but he was magnificent by the end. His 'stars' got the biggest applause of the night. I've never heard such powerful live male vocals before.

Saw the show on Saturday afternoon. In extremely good shape - went with someone who had never seen it and knew little about it - she was absolutely bowled over with it and found it highly intense and emotional - as anyone with a heart should!! Enjoyed seeing it in the Circle - although the helicopter scene is less effective up there (let's say some stage trickery is more visible!) I thought the performances were marvellous. Got to see JJB for the first time since the 2nd UK Tour! He is phenomenally good - so nuanced and a complete understanding of the light and shade of the role. Just a shame he has such a lisp!! 2nd understudy Sooha Kim was on. I thought she was mostly great. Her lack of experience did show but in some ways this enhanced her performance and felt more real than "acted" (much like Bjork in Dancer In The Dark) - the innocence and rawness really shone through. Her accent was strong though - it was the first time I'd heard Kim performed by a non Filipina in all the times I've seen it. SO used to that slightly American twang. Interesting - it made Kim seem more "foreign" - which is a good thing for the story and the perception, but it was sometimes at the cost of diction - especially on the faster and/or more emotionally charged parts of the libretto. This was worse for the Thuy - I could barely understand a word he sung! Why would anyone cast someone who doesn't have clear enough diction to be heard in a highly amplified, sung-through musical?!? It seems ridiculous. His acting carried him well, but honestly, for anyone not knowing the lyrics, it would simply have been guesswork 90% of the time!! Loved the Chris much more than ol' Brammer Balls! Better in every way! Stick to Casualty luvvie! A greater presence, a richer voice and more chemistry with Kim. Understudy was on for Ellen - even she was better than the woefully miscast Tamsin Carroll - nicer costumes too. One thing my friend asked, which I couldn't answer clearly: in the final deal, were Chris and Ellen fully prepared to take Tam AND Kim with them? Genuinely? Surely not The Engineer too? (I thought he was rather deluded on that one) Perhaps I have forgotten little strands of the plot but I haven't been able to quite piece out the final plan... It is a wonderful show and such a shame it didn't have the legs to make it to a significant run in it's revival. My theory is tonally it is out of step with the current zeitgeist of light hearted, non-dramatic, fluffy family-friendly musicals... Thanks for your review! Totally agree the show is better from the stalls, especially the helicopter scene. I sat in J of dress circle on my third visit and noticed how much less intimate the show is. I personally prefer all the original cast, except Ellen (the current Ellen is fantastic IMO). I think Chris Peluso is adequate, but vocally and acting-wise weaker than Alistair Brammar, and I think he lacks chemistry with Eva. I don't think it helps that he's extremely tall, and both Eva and Tanya need to reach upwards to kiss him, making those scenes a little hard to believe.

Can someone explain how they can get so short staffed? I'd have thought they'd be able to cope using swings and/or parachuting people in to be ensemble members - given the unemployment rate among theatre actors I can't imagine it's hard to find someone capable.
