I just think a new design , set lighting etc would help I’m sure that’s bits of the broadway set too. As the west end version I saw back in early 90s was even more basic if it were possible . And maybe some new less electronic drums etc I’ve got the original barbra Dickson version on cassette !!?? Lol it’s sounds so different and Kiki Dee version too which again is different to the 95 saint Stephanie or Lawrence version ❤️
Didn’t it bomb in west end originally so BK took it on tour for a few years … made some changes then bought it back with Kiki Dee … then Steph ❤️ then it went out on tour with the amazing Berni Nolan and some of the …broadway set . ? And it’s that production that’s still going 🤔👍

Got offer ticket so took my dad tonight a couple of titters from him he lent over as said not quite the Patricia hodge Peter Egan production is it ?
Looked like the director was in front of us taking copious notes all night it’s been open over a week .. he wrote literally pages .. one show stop too just after Tim’s front cloth speech a piece of set was out of place Mind you the theatre was half full and got excellent applause at the end very enthusiastic. And it did seem a bit tighter than last week

Oh dear not the best production considering it’s the 40 th anniversary production! Saw it in west end January quite enjoys it although thought felicity Kendal was mis cast … Tracy Ann Oberon saved it for me . Saw the tour last week and sadly feel it’s a bit of a mess Liza Goddard gives dotty a good go … Matthew Kelly seems to be enjoying himself … the physical comedy has to be so precise in this and sometimes it’s just too manic or a little late doesn’t always land which is a shame …. The funniest bits I’ve seen in past productions arnt even in this one …. Phone cable between the legs ….. constant ducking as they pass the window … when I think back to my parents literally falling of their seats laughing in past west end version to a couple of titters fro mtge audience in this one … was hoping for more

Totally agree with people my all time fave seen it 55 times but not for the last few years …. Found the band and some of the casting off putting for me recently … makes me sad when I think back of the fab early 90s casts …. It’s so over due a new production a new set a new imagining … every other show has one ! But it a BK cash cow he will milk it dry

Why they gave this a west end run and not what’s new pussycat is one of life’s great mysteries …. Still one of the best musicals I’ve seen in a long long time standing ovation every performance

Just back from Home and I'm not sure what to say. I can't believe that someone as young as Jack Holden, could capture this era -- my era -- so accurately. I'm buzzing, reflecting and shedding a tear thinking about it, all at once. Tremendous theatre Five stars. One act: 20:04-21:43 Seems to be 10 minutes longer than London. An interval would have worked I think. Thanks for the info about the run time mkb . I was supposed to be at today’s matinee but it got cancelled yesterday due to cast illness. Thankfully I was able to transfer the ticket to the matinee next Saturday. Good to hear that the trip will be worth it. It’s so worth the trip …. I’m of the age where I lived through the latter end of it and like a Time Machine he takes you back … the live music really brings it to full HD experience it really is one the best pieces of theatre I’ve seen in many years … all people under the age of 30 need to see this x hope this isn’t the end of cruise

Saw it at home tonight I enjoyed it just as much as I did in London a great fit into the theatre 🎭 I got same vibes as others have said…. is it millennials just don’t have attention span or weak bladders ?? Or both Appeared stalls were transfixed no one moved I was in the circle and 40 mins in it started at least 5-6 people drifting in and out or checking phones very distracting , must be for Jack too as each time dour opens light shines in and door slowly closes no curtain over it either . A full immediate standing ovation 👏 and huge cheers and applause so well deserved

There is a new production of Taboo with a brand new book, opening in Manchester next apparently. Possibly at Hope Mill? Or Home? Just saw cruise at Home …. Great venue and vibe theatre would be a good fit for taboo

Just saw evening performance and I’m not going to be popular but myself and partner both said we enjoyed it but we’re not blown away as we had been expecting from all the other reviews Had great seats row F stalls closest you want to be really is E as others 2 rows are quite low as stage is very high We love that era of music , huge Charlie Stemp fans , knew nothing about the show before attending … just couldn’t put our finger on why we didn’t LOVE ❤️ it . Only thing I could put it down to was no huge songs apart from rhythm which got part standing ovation but I found although many other songs quite sweet my mind wondered during them I think with one or two bigger songs I’d have been ❤️❤️❤️❤️about the show Loved the set , staging , costumes, choreography, strong cast , I’d see it again on an offer but full price I’d see something else

I saw this Monday at the curve … came to the west end version pretty late but then LOVED it went 4 times it was top class spectacular…. Now I knew this wouldn’t be as spectacular of course but disappointment would be an understatement up to £60 each I only paid £15-20 each time in London …… I’m confused 🫤 by the comments on the staircase , there was no staircase finale ?? Biggest disappointment of the night I kept thinking right ok surely they must come back on … yesssss surely …. But nope no toe tapping line of dancers it was all just dancing across the stage 😳😳😳😳 the finale was a damp squib I thought the lead billy was very talented but looked a little old for the role , Ruthie was ok but yep played it like Norma Desmond character …. And les Dennis ?? Why ? He didn’t look well but bumbled through even shuffle off to buffalo a favourite in London was just wasted here . For me even though I’d seen it 4 times and 2 extra in the cinema there seemed to be bits missing in this production. Parts of the story were not very clear I did like the overall design and look of the show didn’t look cheap costumes pretty good too …….. except for the dressing room which looked naff. Them blinking 2 sets of steps were swung round that stage more times than in SpongeBob the musical !!!! Then when . The opportunity came to use them for the finale you know the iconic walk down we wait all night for …. they put them away 2 stars ⭐️ only sadly I’d really hoped for more

Anyone else sick of the slow motion bits all the way through the acts and then before the obligatory judges standing ovation …. Let me just watch the damn acts in real time if I miss anything I can go back a slow down myself really spoils the dancing acts especially

I saw the band in London and really enjoyed it more than I thought I would I also have it 4 stars ⭐️…. Wonder why so many changes ? Sounds like make it easier and cheaper to tour …. Name change automatically resonates with take that fans ( cue the drunk and disorderly hen parties sing along watch out Manchester ) and a well known name to put bums on seats 🤔

I was there for first performance in Birmingham stalls were quite full lots of small children seems to enjoy it very silly panto type show … which seems a contrast from what I’d read on broadway ?
Never seen SpongeBob but quite enjoyed it overall looks ok but when you look closer some of the pieces do look rather cheap
I was pleasantly surprised by Gareth Gates played the part well and sang well his tap was ok got one of the biggest cheers and applause of the night …. But again I could see how with a real tap dancer how it could steal and stop the show . Lead guy playing sponge bob was fantastic . Felt it was aimed too much like a children’s show panto style than what I’d read about USA productions … Ticket prices are quite high in a smaller theatre maybe would look and feel better ? Luckily I got a cheap offer ticket 3/5 from me.

Totally agree it’s a shame people don't know how to behave in a theatre these days !!! I’ve had so many bad experiences lately
On the other end of the scale tonight at comedy of errors in Scarborough we were asked to sing along and each seat had song sheets and encouraged throughout only 2 of us joined in 🎶🎭

I had always wanted to see marti live and finally got the chance just after covid when theatre opened social distancing…. It was a wonderful evening She looked so nervous as she walked on and even said my first live show in over 18months I’m scared … so much love for her was only about 60 in the audience… some songs were fab some not so her voice cracked on quite a few and missed the money note on 2 songs from this show and she visibly winced looked very upset with herself and then mouthed sorry … we were just willing her on we didn’t care it was Marti Webb ! Her stories and anecdotes were very interesting too

I saw that show too was the sound theatre tiny up some stairs in the centre , remember sitting with my feet almost on Jamie’s bed we were that close …. Saw the anniversary production too with surrane jones and arts there then the tour with Charlie brooks …. Love the play but the film is so iconic it’s so difficult to see and hear others say those lines …. Tameka will forever be Leya
