What I don't understand is why the actors sign the photos from these people. If we can spot them surely the actors can as they would see them all the time. I guess many actors don't care really, sometimes they don't even look at the person they are signing to . But it's not hard to tell a seller from a real fan.. If I was a celeb I'd rather give an autograph to a real fan than to any of those sellers I would never buy an autograph from them. For me it has no value , it wouldn't have been be signed for me I know someone who does the same thing merchandise collecting and signatures with sports stars. Secret is apparently to get a cute young kid to get to the front of the queue for autographs. Now I would consider this exploiting the lad and his buyers but his lad has got onto to this and now bargains percentages of sales, gifts and holidays. A few years back he got the new PlayStation and his best holiday uplift was to Disneyland so I’m not sure who is exploiting who?

Would I rather see Ralph Fiennes whittering on about covid for 80 mins or Guys & Dolls at the Bridge? No contest! It’s Fiennes isn’t it?

Not tonight but last night - the final episode of Endeavour was just brilliant. Every character that we’ve known and loved over the years had their own little moments. I laughed and cried multiple times, all of the creative team deserve so much credit for making such a high quality drama. It will be missed. The last episode was indeed brilliant. Everyone was on top form and it was definitely my favourite episode. Loved all the references to Morse and yes tears were flowing freely during the last ten minutes. “Goodbye Endeavour. No it’s just Morse” Just caught up with the last Endeavour. Very dusty 'ere also. Great send off

To add some positivity to the mix, I have met some delightful theatre and arts types Michael Ball was lovely. As were Miriam Margolyes and Zoe Wanamaker. I was warned in advance about Boy George and Danny Boyle. But both were charming and easy to talk to. I'd like to hear more of the radio interviews. Sounds fascinating and what an opportunity

I looked and couldn't find anything? She's doesn't want to do a reunion of their comedy was best I got that's basically it. Here's a quote from the Daily Mirror: "Strictly Come Dancing star Will, 46, claims that their friendship didn't last off-screen, alleging that his phone calls to Sheridan, 41, went unanswered for years. "I don't know what happened, she won't reply to my calls or text messages at all," Will, who played Gaz in the long-running show, told The Morning After With Paul Danan podcast in May 2020. And despite being keen to get his cast mates back together for a reunion, Will said he was scuppered by Sheridan, insisting he wouldn't do it without her." Phew. Can remain an angel in my heart

Recent comments or when they worked together on 2 pints 22 years ago? Recent-ish. Last year or two. Have a google, the story’s on multiple sites online. I know people drift apart, but it seems at odds with the public persona she’s built up of being everybody’s BFF. I looked and couldn't find anything? I've been lucky enough to have met hundreds of actors over many years as a volunteer in the theatre and also working as production assistant. I can't say I have come across anyone who stood out as being rude (maybe I was lucky) but I do have some favourites who are absolutely lovely and include: Cynthia Erivo Sheridan Smith Anna Jane Casey Damian Humbley Alexander Hanson Jamie Parker Matthew Horne Curious, one of the names on your list is one of the worst people in terms of behaviour that I have met in a theatre context. Sheridan?

Fans of last year's Blackbird from Michael Flatley will be delighted to know we have an early contender to usurp the crown for 2023. I'm just back from seeing Luther: The Fallen Sun, in fact I was the only patron at the 22:15 showing tonight. I know nothing of the tv programme that has somehow managed to run for five series, but I know this movie is so spectacularly bad it deserves a cult following. Apart from Andy Serkis who hams it up, Alan Rickman style, as the pantomime villain, I can't tell whether the rest of the cast think they're in a spoof, or are playing it straight but very badly. If this is a measure of how able is Elba, then the idea that he could plausibly be James Bond is ludicrous. (But, they cast Roger Moore, so anything's possible I guess.) The plot is hilariously awful, full of holes and impossibilities and mistakes. The way Luther solves puzzles is not to deduce, but simply to suddenly know the answer and be completely certain of it, no evidence required. It's fun watching the London locations flash by, and once you've got past the first few "Oh FFS!" reactions to the dialogue and events, you can begin to savour the mastery of sheer garbage, and admire the bravura and brazenness with which the creators have managed to convince Netflix and BBC Films to invest in this turd of a picture. A pretty decent summary of the film. Watch the tv show though, it’s on iPlayer. Reason I didn’t bail after fifteen minutes was tv show loyalty and wanting to see if Alice was in the film despite not being listed.

Are people drinking more at the theatre than they used to then? It seems so. The UK has always had a big drinking culture around every social occasion, but why the increase? Is it a carry-over from the pandemic where people were drinking more and now want to do it every time they go out? Every show I go to seems to be packed with groups of women trollied on prosecco. Theatres are pushing alcohol sales to make money on the bars and there are musicals where the police have to be called to deal with violent and drunk patrons. Maybe people just can't tell the difference in how they should behave in a theatre compared to a concert or a football match. What a great word trollied is and very underused. I’m going to try to use it today

The 'Left' is one of two things, it's either the Jeremy Corbyn-types (old school socialists) or it's the Wokerati who, whether they know it or not, are effectively mono-ID Marxists mimicking Mao's Cultural Revolution.
The BBC is neither of these.
The BBC wants to think it's 'left' but it's the broad centre of middle-class affluent managerial-professional Remainers who want benefits of Conservative government (property inflation! buy-to-let!! NEPOTISM, geographically and economically ring-fenced schools, etc) without the guilt of voting Conservative.
And these people absolutely do know what is best for everyone, usually because they went to uni and even got a degree in English Lit/Media Studies/Computahs.
They also want power, which is why they didn't take over the Lib Dems instead.
If you're wondering what happened to the old Labour voters who are not Corbyn socialists or Woke, they were ignored/abandoned due to being ignorant or bigoted (and the Red Wall fell).
Oh you are good! Nicely summarised. 👍 Sarcasm?

There's been actual peer-reviewed research on this which over the longer term has found that the BBC tends to lean towards the government of the day. That's not to say that BBC employees tend to be right leaning. Those are two different things. Editorial bias is what matters and research (as opposed to someone you know who knew who used to work for the BBC and met a few lefties) shows that the current bias is to the right. Last twenty five years at the BBC, news and current affairs haven't been filled with people from the left wing. Andrew Marr the most left wing name BBC have employed in that time? Best you can say he is a centrist he's hardly filling the airways with socialist rhetoric. Can you name more than a few others? You start naming those on the right in the BBC news and current affairs team and the list is a bit longer

Interesting times as the Tory figureheads within BBC’s upper management force a freelance Sport presenter off air, for vocalising an opinion they don’t like, and with it the entire production falls apart. This in turn leads to a horde of fee-payers cancelling their licence fee subscriptions. Could the house of cards be falling apart? BBC bowing to the Tory force in this way, pushing guidelines which don’t exist (the current impartiality guidelines exist for news staff, not sport freelancers) to pursue a clear agenda. Other sport freelance staff who work for BBC amongst other broadcasters are allowed to tweet about their anti-trans beliefs, but others aren’t allowed to discuss their issues with immigration. The hypocrisy is rife. Meanwhile the entire exercise of ‘distract them from the real problem’ (the government’s inability to deal humanely with a horrendous situation) puts the entire corporation at risk, during at already perilous period. I think people underestimate the reach, number and power of sport fans, and if this propagates, many more departments will see their budgets hacked at the BBC scrimps to save on a quickly decreasing income as more licence fees are cancelled. Having a family member once work for the BBC for many, many years and in different locations, I can tell you the strongest driving influence at the BBC is that of the Left Behave

Do you know how much Jenas earns without presenting the BBC flagship football programme? Should get me to present He’s in demand so can justifiably charge. Because he’s had the opportunities to develop and prove an ability in his role, hence being getting the chance to move through the ranks. So stick with Gary then?

Sport, and football in particular, is a multi billion pound industry. The fact that MOTD has bigger audience numbers than classical music is actually a good reason to keep protecting minority interests like choral singing via the BBC. Those who have come for me because I raised Lineker as an overpaid symbol are missing the point. This is not about him per se. It is about a culture in the BBC that is out of kilter with the real world. We don't need to carry on paying high profile individuals more and more money for the BBC to survive. Indeed, it would be a far more representative organisation if it did away such high payments and channelled those resources into nurturing fresh faces and developing talent.Multimillionaires being paid seven figure sums to present on TV is quite simply wrong when budgets are under pressure. Indeed most of those on six figure salaries should be looked at again. The culture has to change. You mean like Jermaine Jenas or Alex Scott? Do you know how much Jenas earns without presenting the BBC flagship football programme? Should get me to present

Yeah but it is no harm having the best in the business presenting £1.35 million is a lot of harm to budgets. It is an outrageous sum of money. He isn't worth it. Yeah you are right he is not worth it, but we are not Communists here. He is really good at his job and I've been down the list of BBC top earners and I'd get rid of two others personally and keep Lineker.

Football does have a very large resale value around the world so BBC is getting large income off the back of football rights. Why Manchester United have not played an untelevised cup game for about two decades That income is down to the profile of the football teams not the presenter. BBC football audiences would not drop if Lineker ceased to present some of it. Yeah but it is no harm having the best in the business presenting

Since I made my earlier comment about Lineker, it seems like his time at the BBC might actually be coming to an end. £1.35 million a year saved there would be enough to more than cover the costs of the BBC Singers Football does have a very large resale value around the world so BBC is getting large income off the back of football rights. Why Manchester United have not played an untelevised cup game for about two decades

Matinee of Mother Goose at the Liverpool Empire. Right near the end, and about three quarters of the way through John Bishop’s sonnet someone shouted out “stick to the jokes, John.” He carried on for a few seconds, then he decided he wasn’t going to let it go and said “shut up, knobhead.” Got a round of applause from the audience. McKellen didn’t say anything, but had some furious looks in the direction the shout came from. Is that bad behaviour? It’s an interactive show by all accounts (from our thread), if audience members are being subjected to waterguns, inflatable balls, ad libs etc etc isn’t it ok for someone to return the favour to one of the actors? Sounds like John Bishop was being a bit of a stroppy diva, supported by the dreadful McKellen. Dreadful??!!

Jerusalem didn't win the Olivier. It went to Katori Hall's The Mountaintop. Perhaps they are trying to make amends? I don't know anything about The Mountaintop, but if it was deemed to be better than Jerusalem it has to be amazing! Yeah it was pretty good to be fair

Just caught up with the deliciously performed Nolly, and the wonderfully named Augustus Prew keeping with Helena. yep lovely detail and observation - great stuff. it felt a bigger budget than those 80minute BBC4 or 3 biopics such as Helena as Enid Blyton that felt interesting but done on a shoestring. Felt a bigger budget than crossroads to be fair
