This just came through to my inbox.
Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Tony Award-winning Evita returns to the West End this summer!
The all-star concert will take place at the iconic Theatre Royal Drury Lane, accompanied by the 30-piece London Musical Theatre Orchestra.
Auli’i Cravalho, the voice of Disney’s Moana and star of The Little Mermaid Live, makes her West End debut in the title role of Evita, alongside West End leading man Matt Rawle (Martin Guerre, Miss Saigon, Zorro) who returns to the role of Che.

This sums up where I am with this. I would love it to be true, but "rumour cauldron" no doubt. (Still awaiting the "definitely happening" Starlight Express announcement). Yes I don't really see Nicole in this either. Much as I think she's wonderful and her Memory was utterly jaw dropping. I would also like to see what Jamie Lloyd would do with this. OAT Evita was iconic. I always think we lack ambition and sell ourselves short with the endless actress who can sing/singer who can act debate which Sunset threads are particularly fond of. Aim high - this needs a COMPLETE double threat who is an amazing singer AND an amazing actress. I refuse to believe there aren't such people out there. (Since everyone chucks their fave names in, I personally think Victoria Hamilton Barritt would be incredible in this). Everything is so "iconic" these days it's a totally meaningless term. I'm wearing my iconic 🩲, to match my iconic 🧦 while eating iconic🍕! There are other more imaginative adjectives out there! These days everything is also "super" something and just going for a "cheeky" whatever seems to be the norm.

Just get Patti back - she can still sing the hell out of it, as she proved during her residency at Leicester Square. I know, I know, she hates ALW and is busy now with marvel, but I can dream 😀 No thanks. Love Patti but she mumbles her words and you have no idea what she is singing. Diction please!

I'll believe this when I see something concrete. We seem to get loads of amazing rumours on here that have no foundation or come to nothing. However I'll be pleased if I'm wrong as I love this musical and if its CZJ I'm first in line to book.

I had an e mail confirming last night but it's all a bit faffy to be honest. You have to go along in the afternoon to the Coliseum, exchange your voucher for a ticket and with it being TV no guarantee you will get in Then come back again a couple of hours later for the recording which is showing as being about 4.5 hours. Dress code of smart/party wear and no hoodie, trackies or sweatshirts. So a long day and no guarantee you will get in. So I think I might say no.

this seems to contradict some other posters - intrigued to see why! Yes, I seem to be in the minority!! Lovely big orchestra, it’s a pity it’s playing that score. I particularly enjoyed the song that ended up in Whistle Down The Wind. I counted at least 15 people complaining in the interval to staff about how bad it was and they wanted there money back. I can’t fault the cast (apart from the guy playing Alex- he was terrible) they tried their best but the direction was utterly dreadful. I’ve never, in the 20 years I’ve been going to the theatre been at a ‘serious’ (so to speak) musical where the audience are laughing at how awful it is. The projections!!!?? It was like they’d ripped them from YouTube. If I’m in the minority I can handle it lol, but honestly, it was the worst thing I’ve ever seen on a west end stage. I'm interested to know if all those people complaining at the interval left or came back for the 2nd act. I would presume if it was that bad they would have left so were there big gaps in the audience for act 2?

Has anyone got tickets for Hannah Waddingham's Christmas show being recorded at the Coliseum later this month?

I have a list of shows to book and I'm ticking them off one at a time as can't afford to book all at once. I should be more patient and wait. I’m just hoping after Branagh’s Macbeth there won’t be too much for the next month or so I've booked anything that I know will sell out quickly but the ones that will be around for a while or not selling really fast have gone on my list.

Does some random actor from Coronation Street saying they enjoyed their free night at the theatre really translate to any extra sales? And do the celebrities ever say anything uncomplimentary for those filmed interviews? At least with a press review, it's been known for productions to select judiciously to get what seems like good pull quotes: "Like nothing I've ever seen!", "A night I'll never forget!" Of course they aren't going to say anything bad as they are on a freebie night out with ticket, drinks and after show party thrown in.

If Sweden don't get Petra Mede to host, I shall be very narked. She is best ever host I literally just said the same thing to a friend. Mans and Petra are my favourite hosts.

Belgium and Finland for me. One for being good old disco and the other for being old school bonkers Eurovision.

I've yet to see it (booked for the end of June) but listening to the cast recording today I know that I am going to enjoy this. The songs and different styles of music are great.

Saw the first show at the Menier last night for Christina Bianco. Lovely evening with some great songs and impersonations. She has an amazing voice whether she is singing as herself or one of the many divas she does. Nice nod to Forbidden Broadway, a James Bond song medley and a special section for Eurovision including Duffy singing Boom Bang A Bang! This bit was fun as the audience get to choose the Eurovision songs and the singer. All the usual divas there like Liza, Babs, Celine, and Shirley. Great fun. The Menier did look a little sad though, especially the restaurant area. Box office now at the entrance and a few chairs in the restaurant area itself but it felt dad and empty.

Hannah bloody Waddingham, that's all I have to say. she's much better at this than the Olivier's where she felt very much out of her depth Hope everyone realises my comment "Hannah bloody Waddingham' is meant in a good way. She is just stealing the show and I can't believe all the media coverage she is getting, even from "proper" serious newspapers. And us MT lovers have had the pleasure of seeing her perform for years.

Is it the same shownas The Band? I remember seeing it at the Savoy and thought it was fun. They did a clever thing with a curtain of rain. The curtain of rain was a blanket, or maybe a sheet or ... a curtain but nothing wet... that was flapped around last night. Just been pointed out that the show I had seen was Never Forget, different show, same band. The rain curtain was very clever as it could spell out words in the rain shower.

Finland my favourite so far, Sweden was a bit boring. Thought the staging was excellent and the BBC made the venue look much bigger than it is. Not sure why they have such a a massive stage as the whole thrust part is hardly used. Hannah was superb as expected, Alisha just annoys me whatever she does.

I thought the cast, orchestra and choir sounded fantastic tonight and was especially thrilled with Ramin and Celinde. Liked a few of the songs, but found it rather dull. Needed an upbeat number or two to give some variation. Also, thought some of the plot points were confusing but that could just be due to the concert staging and narration being limited. And as mentioned above, sometimes the orchestra overpowered the vocals but understand due to the brief rehearsal process. Glad I went, but wouldn't go to see this again. I also found the plot very confusing at the start and at one point gave up and just enjoyed the music. Got easier to follow later on. Did I miss it or did the Narrator not say how Dr Zhivago died?

I also really enjoyed tonight. The singing was superb by the whole cast and especially the chorus from Arts Ed. I have seen Ramin perform once before in Love Never Dies and he was the main reason I went. I had listened to the OBC so was slightly familiar with the music. There are some beautiful songs in the show. I took a friend who had not heard of the musical, cast, or been to a concert performance of a musical before so I was a bit worried she might not like it. But she loved it. My only issue was with the sound. I was sitting about 12 rows back in the centre stalls and at the beginning I thought that the orchestra overpowered the singers. There were also quite a few missed mic cues but it seemed to get better as it went on. However you kind of expect it at concerts as there is so little rehearsal time on the day. All that said, it didn't spoil my enjoyment. And a 6pm start, brilliant! Meant I was home before it got dark.

Simon over exaggerating again. Apparently the Lowry holds 4,000 people. However the young guy singing Stars had a great voice.

The music is fantastic, and Pretty Yende singing wonderfully while wearing that huge yellow creation… fabulous. Agree, the music is wonderful. Wonder if the Coronation music will be released on CD after.

Just had e mail from the ENO to say the new programme will be announced on Wed 17th May and a cryptic clue as to what is coming. I know very little about opera so have no idea but I'm sure some of you will be able to guess. Here is what it says.
Put aside your trials and grab your magic chimes for we’ve got a Season Handmaid for you! Come with us on a journey from a sunny Sunday Morning by the sea to a Castle with seven locked doors. And in between, we can stop for a Brindisi and an appointment with a hairdresser who can do far more than trim a beard. So, how many have you predicted? Are my clues McCrystal clear?
Handmaid's tale coming back? Sweeney Todd? - God hope I've got that one right as would love another production.

I watched the first episode of this Bridgerton spinoff last night and thought it was great fun. The locations and costumes are absolutely stunning. This is no "on the cheap" programme.

Jury Duty

Post by alece10 on May 4, 2023 19:48:12 GMT
I've done it twice now, very boring whilst waiting to get on a trial but at least it's 2 weeks off work. Only time I managed to get out of jury service was when I was called up whilst working abroad. They decided that the cost of flights and accommodation was not worth it.
