If it's going to be anything like the Footloose tour, I'll give it a wide berth. thought Footloose was fine, apart from Garath Gates who felt like he was in a different show to everybody else. Not seen Flashdance so will definitely take this opportunity to do so. Wish i'd seen it with Victoria Hamiliton-Barritt though.

I've been lucky enough to see Taylor perform a couple of times in the past and they were never less than thrilling. This new project though sounds totally immense, i really hope we get the chance to see the whole thing in this country at some point.

Well isn't Daniel Boys just as cute as a button? Enjoyed this tonight, I didn't find it particularly dated really. Gay men are still doing all that, sadly. Or maybe I go to the wrong parties? Loved the set, very G Plan, and the incidental music. Gatiss was excellent, in fact I thought it was a pretty good cast all round. The only one I got a bit fed up with was James Holmes as Emery. I think there are several ways to play a wildly effeminate gay and he went for a very obvious one. An enjoyable evening. He's as cute as many buttons, unfortunately i did think he was a bit miscast. Everybody else was excellent though. Definitely an enjoyable evening, although i think it is a little dated, i do very much recognise some of their behaviour. Interesting to compare it to 5 Guys Chillin' which i saw at the Kings Head at the weekend. Pretty much 50 years between the two plays, and the same internalised homophobia and self esteem issues are present in both of them. All that's changed is how they are expressed, and in some ways the characters in the contemporary play are actually more repressed than the ones in Boys.

Watched the final performance of this on Saturday and was actually pleasantly surprised. Wasn't my choice to go to Birmingham to see it but him indoors is a massive fan of the film and pretty much insisted. The cast, except for Peter Bowles who was a little wooden to say the least, were fine. As someone has previously noted Clare Louise Connolly as Regan was very good, and I was also quite taken with Jenny Seagrove's performance. It was staged well, atmospherically lit and scored, and the effects were ahem effective. Big bonus was being interviewed about our thoughts on the show on the way out by none other than Simon Lipkin! Not sure why, perhaps they are putting together a press kit for a potential tour? anyway i got a bit fan-girl tongue tied and made a open mouthed fool of myself, I suspect they wont be using any of the footage, lol. He's just so goddamn handsome though

Saw today's Matinee and really enjoyed this. Stand-out performances were Louise and Laura. I was surprised how many of the cast I've seen before. One minor point of criticism: they could have needed a few more costumes for the ensemble. After the bows, Laura and Louise asked two alleged super fans on stage to give them a present. There was, however, no present and the guy proposed to his girlfriend. He was so emotional and overwhelmed that he lost all words, so he just went down on one knee and gave her the ring, and she said yes. What a happy end and great ending to this show I was there at that performance too, the proposal brought the tears which the show didn't quite manage to. I really liked it though, decent production of a decent show. Liked the cast, already loved Louise and Laura and this didn't change my mind though i wouldn't call either of the performances mind blowing. I thought the staging worked really well, though i echo previous comments about the use of ropes in the Texas scenes. We were sat on the centre aisle of one of the side blocks and although i would have preferred the centre block i didn't feel my experience was majorly effected by that. Ultimately though I don't think the show is a particularly imaginative or powerful telling of the twins stories. There is just so much in the story that could be made to resonate much deeper and wider than this incarnation does. I can't help but wonder how good it could have been in other hands, Kander and Ebb for example.

Watched the matinee of this today, totally new to the show. For the first forty five minutes or so I felt myself falling in love with it, but then that levelled out to liking it a lot. Excellent production, really liked the cast and the staging was atmospheric and sometimes quite witty. I felt like the actor/ musician thing worked really well but can imagine that beautiful score would sound amazing with a bigger band.

I was going to ask, are those £5 seats (£10 in the main part of the run) likely to be okay? I guess they're really off to the side, so you get the sides/backs of people a lot, but could they be worse than that? obviously it depends on the set, but i've always been happy with them when ive sat there, near there before. I've also usually paid more than £5 for them too.

£5 ticket booked, looking forward to this one Me too, how could i not Sat in those seats for other shows there, discounting the possibility that they build a six foot wall on stage in front of them they should be a great bargain. Can't wait to see the show.

That's excellent news. It's a great little venue. I loved Parade and can't wait to see Hair.
The Manchester Theatre scene gets better and better.

I really need to book my ticket for this at St James. Also, has anyone else seen that Anthony Rapp is doing two weeks of shows at the St James at the same time as Rent? I saw Anthony Rapp a few years ago at the Edinburgh Fringe, he did the same show as he did at the Menier the same year. It was obviously great to hear him sing songs from Rent live, and talk about Jonathan Larson. However it became very cringe worthy particularly, but not solely, when he was channelling his dead mother! He just didn't come across well at all, and i left feeling a bit nauseated and vowing never to watch him live again.

anthony, I have just added you to my Christmas Card List for mentioning the new Kate Bush CD. I was "mentioning" it somewhat discreetly with my new avatar. The excitement is too much... After two years we've finally heard that we're to hear it all again. It'll be like 25th December on... 25th November 2016, Before The Dawn Live... The only contemporary music act to receive a special Editor's Prize at the London Evening Standard Theatre Awards. Presented to Kate by the lovely Ian McKellan. Visit her website to listen to the Prologue, a beautiful ten minute version with added Ding Dongs. (They didn't appear on the studio version of the same piece, as boybooshka will testify.) There. I've said it. Indeed i can't deny i enjoy a good Ding Dong. Prologue sounds stunning, can't wait to get the CD(and Vinyl) to relive that amazing experience. Still hoping for a dvd, one day. Being a lifelong Kate Bush fan as taught me to be patient.

I completely disagree with the previous comment about the Moulin Rouge, i adored it, one of my most favourite nights out ever. Yes it's expensive but all the money is there on the stage to see, if you like cabaret at all its a must.
Also the Vendages du Monmarte wine harvest festival is on during your visit, i'd really recommend spending some time there. Food and wine tastings, street performances etc all centred around the Sacre Coeur.

I'm really looking forward to seeing this, not seen the play before. However if it's anything like the film I guess it will feel pretty dated. The film is very much of it's era, pretty much all the characters are either self hating depressives, bitchy queens or both. Not like us gays these days at all

I really want to see this but I'm desperately hoping it doesn't go on sale until the new year money wise. The hubby is going to go nuts if I try booking something else. There is also so much locally I want to see too, that I haven't booked yet. Why did I promise him, no more credit cards!! I want to live a champagne lifestyle on a pint and pasty wage. Amen sister i hear you loud and clear lol.

Watched the first preview of this at Home on Tuesday, for a first public performance I thought it was pretty damned strong and there wasn't anything that stuck out as needing major fixing. The score isnt one you will come out raving about, it's very pastiche but that kind of is the point. It's very self consciously a "Musical" in that sense. Anyone who has seen work by Bryonny Kimmings before are likely to find the tone and feel of it very familiar, she's a very strong presence in the show. As expected a bit of an emotional rollercoaster, tears of laughter and sadness intermingled fairly frequently. Very striking visually too.
Coincidentally, I'd been discharged from a couple of days in hospital for an eye op the morning of the show, which added greater resonance to a lot of the show. But I think even if you haven't had any direct experience of Cancer or other health issues, you will connect with it. Definitely strongly recommend 4/5.

I think there are critics who have already decided that they will hate it just so they can do that exact thing.
Alternatively you might get the odd 'It's not terrible, Muriel"

Oh Lordy please don't let it be Will Young! No offence to the guy but just coz he can sing and he's done a German accent before don't make me Headwig. I'm kinda hoping they go for a woman..... I think Young could be pretty decent in the role and seems like an obvious choice, it would be cool to have some less obvious casting though With regards to a woman playing the role, the first thing I said after seeing Jane Horrocks in If You Kiss Me, Kiss me, was what an amazing Hedwig she would make.

So sad. Undoubted comedy genius, and capable of great poignancy when she turned her hand to it too. Probably caused me to laugh more than any other single entertainer/ writer ever. Her work definitely had a formative effect on my sense of humour. Glad that I once, many years ago very briefly, met her and got an opportunity to thank her personally for the laughs. The faces and voices of my youth and childhood are fading very quickly this year,

OMGosh! I can't wait. So what if she's too old. She was too young for Dolly but she was fabulous in that! Boo to the Babs bashers. In the words of that great philosopher Taylor Swift, the haters gonna hate, hate, hate, hate, hate! This, exactly this! Its Barbra Streisand folks, she'll be amazing
