One of The Actual Queen's main bit of theatre for year is next Saturday. I've never been around for it, has anyone lined up near the palace or the mall for this in years gone by? I understand the actual event is ticketed but wondered if there were any tips for good positions by the processions to see a bit of royalty up close, that isn't Helen Mirren for once.

I was in the Opening Ceremony ( the Industrial Revolution sequence - making those Olympic Rings !) and had to keep the surprise for MONTHS! That still stands out for me as the greatest sequence of the whole games, it was so beautifully put together. I'm very jealous, I bet it was interesting to put together.

I completely missed my opportunity to book tickets early for this and had been struggling to find something reasonable, with most of the preview period being sold out. Noticed tonight though that seemingly the seats behind the conductor have been released for £48. Still pretty steep but have now booked for July, hopefully I can wait that long...

I know the lottery isn't on at the moment, but just checking that this production isn't selling day seats or anything along those lines?

Took advantage of that today. If you're thinking of trying this, the best tip sit on your phone at 09:59 on the date selection page and when it hits exactly 10:00 tap the "day seats" option, even if it hasn't changed. This loads you in a second or two ahead of the rest. Got central front row seats for the described £25. I'd never seen the show before, and was a bit underwhelmed, for the same reasons everyone else has described in the last several pages. Just a really unmemorable and ineffective book and score, with some pretty sets and some really promising child actors. The elevator was fantastically disappointing. I'd rather that "Pure Imagination" had played in the Chocolate room scene where it would have resonated more and we might have focused on the song. Instead I spent the whole thing staring at the scissor lift as it trundled slowly to stage left and slowly to stage right again. Not what I'd hoped for.

A couple of empty seats today at the matinee. Those not empty included Simon Russell Beale and David Suchet. The play itself was quite fun I thought, a nice short romp through an interesting issue. Flynn and Wannamaker were great.

Maybe I'm being idealistic but I don't see there being any need for stunt casting with Hamilton. It's appearance will generate enough box office sales to sell well past the end of a contract you'd get with any big name, so why bother? It'd be a much better thing to do down the line if ticket sales start drying up.

Not quite at the theatre but I'm standing outside the Duchess and definitely Marc Warren and possibly Bill Nighy have walked past. Bill Nighy was indeed wandering around Drury Lane yesterday with a book in hand.

Caught this tonight with the £20 Mondays thing, and probably because my expectations were lowered by recent reviews I had a surprisingly good time. I'm not particularly well versed in classical theatre so know not much of Dr Faustus (or Faust), haven't seen any other productions, and haven't got much to compare it to. Maybe that's why I had a pretty good time from start to finish. I don't have any qualms about the script, although I can see how the modern sections don't quite live up to the classical parts in general. It all gelled together in a strange way, mostly as everyone says because of the actors working very hard. Craig Stein created one of my favourite moments in the play with a particularly surprising Obama portrayal, Jenna Russell was on top form and Kit Harrington just about acted as well as he is sculpted. I'm very glad I went.

I'm off to the Tuesday matinee on the strength of this thread alone. Was surprised to find Friday rush seats available a few hours after it had gone on sale, all the better for me though.

Whether it deserves to win in all of them I'm not sure, but every one of those nominations is justifiable, it really is a musical which excelled in every department.

Plenty of time to try and make this show live anywhere near up to the hype that's been generated. I think it was a bit weird how they announced those previews but didn't allow booking, as if they knew there was a good chance they wouldn't be selling them. Would it not be easier to not say anything at all, and if they fancied some previews they could surprise-sell them at the last minute? They wouldn't have had any trouble shifting them. I suppose the general public won't really have noticed this so it makes not much difference.

With some trepidation I've booked a Monday seat for next week.
OK that's a lie, it was booked with a lot of trepidation.

I know it's an actual newspaper but I find that all a bit dubious. A "severe" chest infection that a 69 year old actress only misses four shows for? I don't think she was on a drip for 3 days either, just that she was in whichever private hospital for a comfy three days, and probably had a bag of fluids put up when she came in for a bit of support. Nonetheless if she was hospitalised then she obviously was very keen to get back into the show, appearing back so quickly. Few would be so dedicated.

Having a look at seats, anyone any advice for which cheaper seats would be alright? How's the upper level?

I wasn't here to publish a review when I saw it on opening night. I'm glad some people here found stuff to enjoy in it, but I truly found absolutely nothing. Not funny, not new, not interesting.

Obviously he doesn't give anything really juicy away but it's nice to hear his general approach and perspective on the project. Seemingly it's going to be a lot different than the comedic version the film plays to, and we aren't going for any Bill Murray like comparisons with the lead character.

Last night she signed everyones she reasonably could. The actual space to get near her is pretty slim as they park the car at the kerb, and so you've got the width of the kerb on either side of the stage door to line up at. She jumped up over the roof of the car at one point to get people, and she took her time at both sides. I missed out, if I'd known I would've lined up on the other side of the car when it moved in. Thankfully when she left the other leads hung around like the rest of us muggles and was able to have a chat with them.

Anyone have any advice on whether it's better to take some of the early seats via TimeOut or wait until the midday scramble tomorrow? There are enough codes floating around to get booking immediately directly via the Old Vic (if the TimeOut one isn't, I don't know) - so I'd just jump in now if I were you. I don't know why it didn't occur to me to find the codes, thanks for suggesting it. Booked now for 30th July evening.

No, but the overly dramatic intonation of the rap and the poses does not match with the funny parody approach of the material. I can see where you're coming from but, purely as a matter of personal opinion, could not disagree with your view more. As has been said, it's light hearted, and uses rap to talk about dramatic or serious things in a twenty-first century manner. Talking to the audience is a trope of theatre as old as the medium itself, I don't feel it's a negative part of the show. I don't really understand how it seems like a parody to you, it seems like a youthful retelling to me. I definitely can't see where you're getting street dance from. There's very little of anything like that in the show from my recollection.

Hamilton is going to have no problems casting all the known and unknown talent there is to be found. If they're struggling to fill believable leads they'll also have no financial issues with pulling across acting talent from America.

There's definitely a need for a "We are now in the Emerald City" song, and it would be strange not to have an ensemble song at around that point in the show, flicking through the songs list. Instead of the Wizomania bit it would've been nice if the witches did something that somewhat showed their friendship becoming more solid. Bearing in mind all the stuff that happens in the second act, I've always felt there isn't much after they 'make up' in Dancing Through Life to suggest that they actually were the best of friends. Popular is really all there is.
