But Alex Brightman missed SOOOOOO many unannounced performances before finally getting an alternate.. that kind of stuff doesn't sit well with voters... not to mention- this is all politics, it's usually about who campaigns the most- look at Daveed- he has a really good publicist probably- he was everywhere this last month. Lin is already everywhere.. Odom used to go on quite a few interviews but stopped recently for some reason... it's a shame- but it seems to be the way things work..
And the voters are also suckers for giving awards to those who have been snubbed/ long time veterans (see Kelli O'hara last year- I LOVE her and she should have won for Bridges, but last year's was Chenoweth's/ Beth Malone's in my opinion)..
Not to mention the Tony committee seems to be in favor of Hamilton breaking ALL records (which I also think is a shame, because some shows are more deserving in some categories.

Bear in mind that Youtube and Spotify (free) streaming of songs count as album sales (2 songs= album), and the fact that the cast recordings consist of two cds means they only have to sell 500 thousand rather than a million copies to go platinum Still impressive, just not as much... Important point, but I thought the ratio was 1,500 streams : 1 album? www.riaa.com/riaa-debuts-album-award-streams/You're right! I dont know why I was thinking of 2 streams... Now it makes me think what videos count? I mean "My Shot" must have been uploaded to YT dozens of time by fans.. do all those streams count too..? Hmmm The music industry has changed tremendously though over the last few years that's for sure...

The Hamilton Original Broadway Cast Recording has officially been Platinum certified. #yayHamlet, as they would say Based on this thread in Broadway World from last year, that would put it in the company of about 16 other musicals: www.broadwayworld.com/board/readmessage.php?thread=1083204Although I have to say, in the age of streaming services and a-la-carte track downloads, platinum certification strikes me as an even more impressive feat than in the past. Bear in mind that Youtube and Spotify (free) streaming of songs count as album sales (2 songs= album), and the fact that the cast recordings consist of two cds means they only have to sell 500 thousand rather than a million copies to go platinum Still impressive, just not as much...

I'm a huge fan of Brian Conley, seen him four times in panto, but only one musical (Chitty Chitty Bang Bang which he was great in!), bit gutted I missed him in Barnum and Oliver! - and The Music Man for that matter as it is a musical I'd quite like to see! As I said on the previous forum, Seth MacFarlane did a fantastic cover of "Ya Got Trouble" at the Proms a few years ago, but him starring in a musical would be highly unlikely. He also covered "The Sadder But Wiser Girl for Me" on his album (and we mustn't forget Peter Griffin's "Shipoopi" ) and sounded great, I was just thinking about him. I feel like he may have said he'd like to do stage work in the future, but I could be wrong.. I think he could be great- he's got great comic timing.

I haven't heard of Brian but I bet Scarlett was great! Taking bets now, you're either very young, not a British national, or live under a rock. There was a period (I think it was basically the entirety of the '80s and '90s?) when you simply couldn't switch on a TV set without having Brian Conley gurning back at you. 21, not a brit (Israel here, so its kind of a rock, and if the tv program is foreign it's american and nothing else) so I'm three for three whoop whoop!(do I win?) Is he a good stage performer?

Second coming! Is that what I mean? Most of my bible knowledge is gleaned from musicals. He's coming again?!?! When was that announced? I love JCS. I had no idea Andy and Tim are working on the sequel. Let's hope it goes down better than LND... Its going to be about the one night of passion Jesus and Judas shared before Jesus died, he then comes to life to discover Judas has fathered a child with "someone else"- I wonder who's it is... I'd pay to see that.

The movie isn't even a tangible thing- it's a thought at this point. I think the only progress made is maybe the producers have started testing different writers for the script, and maybe talk of a director- I think it was mentioned at some interview, but I could be wrong.
Edit: but than again Hollywood is so secretive for all I know they've already cast it!

Regarding the les mis film, I think Tom Hopper was aiming for hyper realism, and misrable, in hyper realism does not equal perfectly trained voices.. Ann hathaway said some (contraversial) stuff regarding the subject of the non perfect singing in an interview but I cant remmember exactly what she said. I fear they might aim for something similar with Wicked, and follow the train thought that great singing (that has a "musical theatre sound") is not relatable and doesn't sell. I hope they don't though

Lea Michele can't act though BB... She does one charachter really well- Lea Michelle... I still can't see Katharine roaring the flying part or NGD... but it is film not theatre- different beast. I was sure Samantha Barks would have been brought up by now. I'm not the biggest fan, but she definitely the best singer in the LM film
I think with right use of cgi, Idina can pull it off- girl looks so good.. But I have such a huge soft spot for Idina maybe I'm biased
And Kristen Bell is such a sweety and bubbly and fun and her soprano is gorgeous. I wouldn't call glinda's an easy singing role though
Ptwest os right though, I'll literally see it no mater who's cast (even Beiber)

I don't think Katharine Mcphee has a strong enough belt (I've only heard her in Smash, so I could be wrong) but I thought Megan outbelted her every time, while Mcphee's voice was softer (still very nice, but I don't know if she'd fit for Elphaba) I actually can't think of any mainstream actress or singer who is also big broadway style belter... not of the top of my head anyway..

Light in the Piazza deserves a large string section to do that beautiful score justice I think... I think your description fits "[title of show]" quite well, outlandish, cast of 5 (one of which is the keyboard player, the only instrument needed) but needs really strong actors to pull that book off...
Andrew Lippa's "The Wild Party" is also a quirky one, I imagine the band isn't very big, and you could probably pull it off with a small cast

I'm naively hoping that maybe they gave Laura Emmitt a 5 month break before taking the lead herself... but 5 months is soo long for a break.. If this doesn't happen, I hope she left of her own choice as they were crazy to get rid of her if not! She hasn't tweeted anything about wicked, but then again Laura doesn't tweet all that often to begin with... I really don't know if that's positive (that there no point in tweeting that she's sad to leave if she's coming back) or negative (that the departure wasn't out of choice for example). But you're right she was the best Elphaba of the 4 (in my opinion) and generally really good! I'm sure either way she has big things ahead of her!

I'd like to see at least one of the witches (Elphaba/Glinda) go to an unknown, either a complete fresh face, or a theatre actress. this movie would sell on the name "Wicked" alone, sprinkle some celebs with chops (Kristen Bell for example is a huge YES from me). But please no Tom Hooper! ha! Rob Marshall maybe?
Also I'd love to see Idina/ Kristin at least make a cameo! that could be so fun

I can't think of anyone other than Louise who has played both, but I think Carmen Cusack (who played Elphie) would have made a stellar Glinda too (she also played Christine in Phantom- so she definitely has the range)- woman is STELLAR!

I could see them selling at rediculous prices because it's an "event" (yet they wont even say what's planned) Does anyone know what the ticket prices were for the Bway anniversary?

Does anyone know if Rachelle Ann Go and Eva Noblezada are on this week barring illness? As far as I know Rachelle is now back, but I checked the Manila website and it lists her as Fantine on that site as well. I'm considering snagging a ticket for Friday. Emma Kingston was on for Eponine last night, I'm not sure what the reason is though.. As for Rachelle, if she was called back to Manila, I feel she would have tweeted about it and she hadn't so it's probably jusr an error on the site... I could be worng though

Other than the fact that the actors attention should be to stay in character, not searching the audience for who is clapping and who isnt, I think actors should go in to the buisness knowing/assuming not everyone is going to praise them endlessly/love them/ agree woth them unconditionally. Actors get panned in reviews and torn apart by gossip channels. That one person who doesn't clap just doesn't strike me as insulting. I'va had peopld disagree and criticize my work (hell I worked in a job here lives were on the line and disagreements with those above you could result in jail time, not joking, I was close), and my mindset, on the non critical things was- live and let live... I assure you I was never applauded or thanked at the end of a work day, and am completely fine with that, because I was content with the work I was doing, I felt like I was doing a good job and I was, moreover it was a job I couldnt stand. They love their job (I think) and ARE getting praised for it- stupidly so... I don't know I'm really fixating on this aren't I? and I said I'd stop >< Alright Im moving on sorry!

People confuse quality with taste, not clapping poor quality is fine but not clapping for a job well done, but which was not to your taste, is egotistical. Think of it like a meal at a restaurant, if it's badly cooked complain, if it's poorly served don't leave a tip, if you ordered something and you've realised you don't like it then it's your mistake so blame yourself, not the ones who cooked and served it perfectly. You bought the ticket, they did their job, you didn't like it, applaud them and make better choices in the future. I'd argue that the audience member doesnt really choose the perfomance/perfomer they're going to get... I agree that not clapping because you got an understudy in place of someone you wanted to see, and the understudy is fantastic and you choose not to clap simply because x star wasnt performing- would be off an uncalled for, also booing understudies is a thing that happens and its gross. But again, a performance can be good by one persons standards, and not by anothers, and thats fine- the people choosing not to clap over prefrence are so few if any- why focus on it? ETA their arguement, if I can borrow your analogy, was that even if the food is poorly cooked you should still compliment the chef (beyond the money you pay for the meal)

Alright, alright. Just going to clear things up before I get slaughtered anymore about what I said. I wasn't talking about one person not clapping. My interpretation was around half the theatre not clapping. If your sing a really powerful song (e.g. Everything's coming up roses or And I'm telling you) and put your whole effort into it but then only half the theater claps... Your gonna feel just a tad disappointed aren't you? I always clap but I don't stand up at the curtain call if I didn't like the show (Bend it like Beckham). I'm not saying you have to clap, but it's nice if you did if it was a good performance I think that if a performer really put their all in to it, and a significant amount of people didn't clap maybe it'd be a sign they need to reflect on what about the performance was off? Maybe consult the director- they give notes very often anyway... And if the actir stands behind his performance a 100% (and again does for the love of the theatre) then sure it sucks that the audience maybe didn't get what he was intending, but he should be able to brush it off easily... People don't just not clap because "they forgot it's theatre ettiquete" as Carrie so insists. They have a reason- culture (in south east asia it is not common to clap until the end and is considered distruptive) medical issue, prefrance etc, and they are all valid, and so expecting applause just seems like an entitled move... I get Laura was joking, it was just a poor joke in bad taste, and clearly not 100 humor, because she does -expect- applause (Carrie clearly wasn't even joking)
